My soul trembled a little in the moment when he realised that when he finally has gotten what he hoped for long years it actually didn't change anything. I feel empty now...
@@bunathan2485 I think youre both right and I thought I might react the same...first the realisation...then the reason why...so sad..but true for too many..
Maybe it doesn't matter because he knew it was too late to make the right choices, and he's has to learn to make peace with that. He should have changed from within, but what's the point anymore? Powerful shit.
i can understand this video and song pretty well. in 1990 i won a week in maui for two people at a professional conference in tucson; i was living in portland, oregon. i took my 12-yr-old son during christmas time, and it was very beautiful, total luxury. but i was so depressed with a chronic depression that i barely got through the week. when our minds are sick, when we've lost all confidence in ourselves, barely anything gets in... even the best of luck.
"I waited for something, & something died. So I waited for nothing, & nothing arrived." This song touched me so deeply - as Terrence Bliss finds out, even winning the lotto can not make you happier, if you have spent all of your life running away from people & reality & locking yourself away from the world, just waiting on luck to determine the outcome of your life - just waiting for a "momen*tary bliss*". How powerful.
That's an interesting take on it, I don't see it that way rather that Terrence would rather stay in his sadness than take up the opportunity of a new life that he doesn't know.
this is truly beautiful. I'm currently drunk on baileys and me and my man listened to this which made us stop, we stopped and listened like the earth stopped with us.
Something grabbed me in this song the very first time I heard it… I had to stop what I was doing to listen… Sometimes we spend our lives waiting for something to happen… while it all slips away. Instead of simply appreciating what we already have. Sometimes, you already have the wining ticket… you just need to cash it in…
This song has a special place in my heart. This was the first song my GF ever sent me, back in May, last yr. She's the best thing to have happened to me in a long time, and this song will always remind me of the sweet romantic tumult of our courtship, back in its puking, mewling, crawling infancy.
Maldwyn Ryland same here. Just heard them yesterday thanks to Spotify. This song came on and after the first verse I told my hubby I just found my new favorite song.
I've listened to this song hundred's of times and finally watched the music video... I audibly reacted to this and that's saying something because I'm the only one here and not in the habit of speaking to myself (yet)
The message I get from this is that it's very easy to be scared of sudden good fortune. Terrence is stuck in a rut, and even winning the lottery can't change it (he buys a ticket the next day).
Somehow it reminded me of Look Back in Anger. Daily routine can be such a drag sometimes. Love the song so much! It's very meaningful and just ...beautiful.
when i would listen to this song, it was as though i was using it as a means of grieving. but i realized after a while that i cant just sit here and be so damn sad all the time about whatever i was worrying about. life is too short to be sitting and being so sad and wishing you could change the past, because there is an entire future ahead of you :) now when i listen to this song i just smile because i feel as though it opened doors for me :)
A friend introduced me to the radio station, 88.5FM (WXPN, Philadelphia). Love all the music, and it is how I discovered this fantastic, heartache of a song. One of the best videos I have seen in awhile.
Good post about what a song does/can do. And a good attitude to have...life is far too short. However ......spend a moment, shed a little tear and then smile....moving on.
Just shows that its not the lack money or any situational condition that stops you from living how you want to live. You got to have the will the passion and not to memtion a pair of balls. Dont let life push you around.
Oh that makes sense..! I just heard an acoustic version of this song and all of a sudden I can hear and feel the beauty of it. I'm starting to like this song a whole lot more.
I don't think I've ever been so affected by a music video. It's terrible how sad people's life can be and yet they still prefer their routine when they could step out of their comfort zone and improve their life for themselves
This song reminds me so much of REM's 'Electrolite'..i almost expect to hear Stipes voice come in.."Twentieth century go to sleep.."..I heard this today on the radio..really impressed..great lyrics, beautiful understated voice..like arcade fire a bit..top stuff
The protagonist's name is 'Terrence Bliss' because of this verse: "Some kind of momentary bliss?", the fonetic of the word 'mo-men-tary' suggests the name (sounds like mo-ment-Terry), it's a word game! I hope this helps :)
The Villagers will be performing at Trinity in Bristol, UK on the 16th February 2013, tickets are available online through Alt Tickets or through Bristol Ticket Shop, details of the gig can be found if you Google Trinity Centre Bristol
Every so often I suddenly discover so many new bands at once it doesn't just make me happy, it changes the way I see the world. For a chronically bored music lover, finding bands like Geographer, Villagers, Imagine Dragons, and Anything Box one after another is like a Renaissance.
Also go see them live if you can, saw them couple weeks ago supporting grizzly bear and they were incredible. Already got tickets for their tour in January.
My soul trembled a little in the moment when he realised that when he finally has gotten what he hoped for long years it actually didn't change anything.
I feel empty now...
Or maybe he didn't want anything to change...
We never saw him turn it in.

@@souleater7070 deep but that's exactly what the song is about
@@TheFakeyCakeMaker not that he would rather stay in that life but that he's been in that rut so long he is unable to change
Listening to this again still 11 yrs later. It still hits
"I waited for nothing...and nothing arrived." I love this. It IS all in your outlook. Your mind is your most powerful organ.
Pmmkkkkkkkikki i
Yes indeed
Now help me master my mind
He won the lotto and had the chance to leave his old. unhappy life behind, but he was afraid to, because it was all he knew. Heartbreaking stuff.
maybe he just also knew that it wouldnt change anything...just the setting ( in this case just a more glamourous one) ..
this is truly beautiful. I'm currently drunk on baileys and me and my man listened to this which made us stop, we stopped and listened like the earth stopped with us.
I am so happy to live in a world where this music exists.
i think its about looking outward for happiness where it can never be found because it comes from within. loveee it
"Momentary bliss is still just a moment" -
Terry Bliss
There are so many people who's lives are just as depicted in this video. I love this song.
This song is simply amazing
This version of the song is extremely underappreciated.
Man, I haven't heard this song in a while, I guess I was busy
Me too. and nothing arrived

The Man must be special in someway as there is a singing man who feels he has the need to stalk him everywhere he goes.
its melancholic.. yet hopeful at the same time.

@@kluvbecker I seem to be be playing it all day long and spotting different things in the video all the time.
Really powerful song....
I love the agony that is life. Never give up.
One of those few songs i get emotional over.

Father's Day
Just added Terrence on Facebook. He appreciated my friendship. What a nice guy.
music that has something to say not the usual tripe we hear on the radio
This video gets be depressed at first then weirdly happy...its like clear sky after rain..i love it!

Yet, Conor, you bring so much beauty to the world...
What a perfect 4.33 of music. Brilliant.
i almost cried this really got to me
It's that rare commodity: an album to immerse yourself in and spend time with, both things no one does any more.
this is really great song great musical composition.Thank you guys, sing only for us (who know what is music)
12 years later and it just keeps sounding better and better!

Powerful video to accompany a tremendously harrowing song.

Watched Padre D'Italia and fell on love with both the movie and this song.
i must admit, it got better since the last time i listened to it
popbottle Thats good!💗
This song inspires me to live a minimalist lifestyle.
My favourite from Villagers ..Power piano melody .You’ve already won with this number..
Fantastic song
AWESOME
I forgot just how good this video is.
I agree ,but what makes this song the lyrics and how a person can relate to them and yeah the tune is simple but i kinda enjoy it.
LOVE IT.... excellent video, excellent song.. can't wait for the album.
love this tune, the singer has a very familiar look about him
How am I just hearing about this song now?

what happened then?
Incredible how powerful the scene is where he wins the lottery, gets me everytime
Great tune.
thanks man
even when you think you have everything, you have nothing.
I agree
Maybe then when you have nothing you have everything?
When you think you have nothing, but you have everything: your life, thats my opinion
Connor always writes music i understand. love this song
Got to hear this track via the Free CD I got on the UNCUT Mag dd. March 2013. LOVE this song ! Very interestig lyrics as well ! Nice one guys !
good song, triggered a memory of an oldie. Was bugging me but figured out which one it reminded me of. Ramones - Needles & Pins

cheer up friend. It's a loser's table, but you have already won.
Most non folk irish music is sad
Listen to Villagers causes it.
Very sad but, I think, often true video! Beautiful song!!!
Spot on

Fabulous performance Adam. Well done, so proud of you XOXOX

This band should be so much bigger, poor marketing by their companies
