to those critics who say modern music is rubbish, they ought to look harder. unfortunately mainstream media is full of rubbish. glad to have discovered Villagers, no matter how late. they have a timeless appeal
Huge Villagers fan, seen them 3 times. Only just heard about Awayland and came across this track. Within seconds I was thinking "ah crap, electronic sounds"... but that voice drowned within about a minute. I quickly realised that it doesn't matter, this is a beautiful song - it works. Evolution = positive. Conor's lyrical prowess hasn't withered. I can't wait to see them on the album tour!
powerful! "approaching the shore" is what the most of us do, till we approach the shore, then is the next wave's turn to approach the shore. heard it on the radio (netherlands)
Very Very Unique Video !! One Of A Kind !! Awesome Song ! Definitely enjoyed it !! The Video Was Fantastic !! This Will Fly Off The Store Shelves !! Palm Beach Florida Usa
I'd always expected something totally amazing from Conor. For a long time Villagers has been my favorite band, 'cause everytime I listen them, seems like they're playing songs that I always wanted to hear. And this time was not different .... AWESOME!!!
Guys, if you actually look past the video, the song isn't actually that different to much of the b-side tracking on Becoming A Jackal. I personally love it. Just goes to show how much the lads are a master of many trades and are able to do both stripped down tracks and more sonic tunes. They'll go far as they are so consistantly awesome.
When this first started I thought I'd clicked on the wrong video. haha. Definitely a bit of a new direction for villagers, sounds amazing though! It's so chilled out, until it gets to the end.
I like the way the song's theme (waves) is echoed in its structure, building and building, from gentle start to riotous cacophony. Plus, the video is a party in my pants :D
This brought me bjorkian excitement. So fresh and elegant. Love the video treatment by Alden Volney. I have such high expectations now for the album! Yipeee!
I somehow found this after watching someone speedpaint some art of Over the Garden Wall Pretty neat music, I'm surprised to see that this isn't bigger or more popular
I'm a huge fan of their first album. For me, seeing this for the first time was a bit jarring, but I've actually come to really like the song on its own, though not accompanied with the video. Maybe it's the wild color schemes or the shakiness, but the video just makes me feel seasick (waves = seasick...makes sense to me). Song is awesome though, really glad to see that they're implementing in new sounds.
lol, I saw these guys live in Limerick a few weeks ago, and their new stuff blew my mind. Really psychedelic and...I dunno, different. I hate that word " weird " when used in referance to something different or something people aren't used to. Makes me realize how much history repeats itself with humans. It happens everytime an artist changes a bit, makes me feel old in observance despite the fact im only 22.
Nine years later and I continue to cry at the complete poetic beauty of this song - unlike anything else I've heard in my entire life
You're not there only one... I do always when I go through this beautiful piece of art...
I yelled " The most unique music experience ive ever had" itto the dead or sleeping night tge MINUTR this was done
My god
It was like living the end
Sooo underrated :(
"One man's innocence is another's chance
What were you thinking of?"
Still so underrated
Still it is
Watching this in 2022. Still gives me goosebumps!
This man is amazing. Why hasn't his music got far yet!? I'm sick of all this main stream stuff... It all sounds the same!
We need more of this!!!
to those critics who say modern music is rubbish, they ought to look harder. unfortunately mainstream media is full of rubbish. glad to have discovered Villagers, no matter how late. they have a timeless appeal
I totally agree. This reminds me of the great music of the 1960s
UH wow! mind blowingly good. I love the metaphor of our lives as waves, everything is made of waves (vibrations) and we are approaching the shore.
Refreshing tune, good lines, trippy video that throws us back to early '90s way of making music videos. Loved it!
This song gives me chills every time - one of my all time favourites
this is a masterpiece

such a feel good song...i love the beat
Pure genius.
I swear this is describing the world in terms of particle physics? I mean, we all really are "Waves"..
This is cosmic knowledge.

Heard this for the first time when driving at the local radio. Love it and... search for it. Keep it going guys

Seeing this live was an experience, absolutely beautiful psychedelia. I love this progression.
From an American - get over here ASAP with that new album guys. Don't make me go back to Limerick City to see you all again!
I am up to about half a dozen listens now and it has amazingly grown on me. I now listen to it any time I get near a computer
powerful! "approaching the shore" is what the most of us do, till we approach the shore, then is the next wave's turn to approach the shore.
heard it on the radio (netherlands)
the waves represent emotions, and how strong emotion can, for a single person, destroy everything around them...
this is too perfect. so beautiful the song the video everything.
You are SO SO SO correct. This is much like crack. I find myself listening to it again and again and again.

heard it 2x on bbc6 and loved it instantaneously!
Oh my Buddha! WOW! Mind is blown! Face is melted!
new sound... and loving it! Conor is a genius.
When this first started I thought I'd clicked on the wrong video. haha.
Definitely a bit of a new direction for villagers, sounds amazing though!
It's so chilled out, until it gets to the end.
I love how the denouement of this song reminds me of Pieces. I really need to see this live...

Agreed such a unique style . Love the whole album
I like the way the song's theme (waves) is echoed in its structure, building and building, from gentle start to riotous cacophony. Plus, the video is a party in my pants :D
Well this is the kind of comment that cheers me up. Thanks a lot Elisabeth.
I remember listening to this on Phantom FM, Pure Morning.
I don't think any song/video has ever affected me this way. Ever!
This is a BEAUTIFUL video :D
Its amazing.
reminds me a bit of A Day in the Life. I think it's brilliant musically and lyrically. it's so progressive. thanks, Conor.
Singer's voice is so distinctive he should be in voice acting
Amazing people all around the world
I think the visual style improved a lot since the last video and I really like the new song :)
This brought me bjorkian excitement. So fresh and elegant. Love the video treatment by Alden Volney. I have such high expectations now for the album! Yipeee!

I love this song way too much to care that it's different from their usual sound...
it was as calm as waves then it was crashing at the end. moving
fantastic.
So good !
de lo mejor que eh escuchado en esta decada
I agree! It'll be interesting to see if there is any mirroring of songs/lyrics.
I was waiting for Fantasy Man to show up... Great band!
Different, sure, but undeniably Villagers. Dig it!
This is amazing!!!!!
Awesome, I love it, its like Jackal on LSD. The music is definitely different but the lyrics are still as magical as always.
This is my favorite music 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😇😇
i miss your old stuff :~(
badass song
What a great video!
Wow. Wasn't expecting that. Brilliant though. And lads, stop arguing about whether it's good or not, it's not a competition.
This is...special.
Amazing
The end parts kinda reminds me of a trip when you're really stoned. the images that are revolving.
A masterpiece!!!
awesome song btw!
love it
this is a brilliant song, genius. Now that word is overused, but here used exactly how it is supposed too.
