    I love it when Artists are super anal abt saving and proper naming. It's such a lifesaver when watching a tutorial.

    Thank you for making the rig tutorial videos, I have been looking for a more advanced rig tutorial and this is exactly what I needed. Thanks to you and your amazingly explained workflow, I can now make more complex rigs and apply them to my models. Looking forward to the next video!

    One thing you can do to keep the foot IK bone attached to the leg (if you don't want to enable stretching) is add a Copy Location constraint, and set "Head/Tail" to 1. Or, keep it parented to the shin bone, but add a Copy Rotation from the IK handle.

    Hi Dikko, Ive watched this whole series and made something im pretty with but one thing I feel I havent really learned is how to fix edge flows, or create our own. For example, I've added pectoral muscles but when I go to try and apply what I thought I'd learned I feel I'm not sure how the shapes work out that flow. Just a bit of feedback and maybe a topic for a future video. Love your stuff!

    31:42 Here's how to fix it. With the foot being the child of the ik it follows all transforms. So you want to make it not follow the location transform. So go to pose mode. click the foot, go to the bone contraints and add a copy location. target to armature, bone to shin/lower leg(whatever you named it). drag the head/tail dial to 1. That's it. So now you can move your ik control without the foot detaching from the leg. Hope it helps. Also, do the same thing for the hand.

    Hiya Dikko. Thanks for another great tutorial in the series. This whole series has been totally comprehensive from where I stand. I'd like to know if you use the steam version on your system to avoid losing the bone colours for example or if you manually update?

    • @Dikko
      @Dikko  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I manually update. Blender asks whether to import old user prefs with each major update. I don't like having to rely on steam every time I open Blender. Just extra resources being eaten up.

    There's something wrong with my IK rig... I got my pole vector setup exactly like around 31:02. However, whenever I pose the feet/legs in IK mode, the knees bend around 45° inward from the pole control, instead of bending straight at it. I can't just adjust the pole angle because once the knee bends in the right direction, the foot then bends 45° offset.
    I've checked orientations of everything and started from scratch several times and each time the same problem is duplicated.
    Other than that, everything else is working as expected. Thanks for another tutorial!

    • @gerry9888
      @gerry9888 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      kinda late but in Dikko's video about making different arm joints he said that you should bend the DEF/IK bones(EDIT) in the angle you want to bend. (MCH_IK) doesn't care about the rolls of the bones in EDIT, only the (CTRL_IK) does .

    • @RenoSydney
      @RenoSydney 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@gerry9888 Yep, thanks for the response. After some digging I learned that as well.
      Apparently it's also possible to go into the IK settings of that bone and have it lock the axes you don't want to bend (Pose Mode > Bone Properties tab > Inverse Kinematics section > Lock IK x, y, or z). So for instance you can force it to only rotate about the x-axis for something like a knee.

      @@gerry9888Please what bones do I rotate? I'm having the same issues.

      @@ISAACreate - I think we've all been having the same issue here. My quick and dirty fix (not fully tested, but has given me good results so far) was to make sure my X location for all the leg bones are aligned on the X axis. Basically get everything flat and on 90 degree angles.

    Just in case anyone goes through the same problem as me: before generating the leg bone duplicates (4:02) make sure to bend them slightly in the direction you want the leg to bend. If you don't, you may end up with an equine bent leg.

    • @joshahrenbehrens
      @joshahrenbehrens 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You dont have to do it before, you can do it any time in edit mode any time and It ill fix your bones bending weirdly inwards or outwards. Just select your thigh and make it face slightly towards, But thanks for this comment it saved me

    My rig isn't following yours at 23min when you demonstrate. I have double checked all of my parent properties and even gone back and double checked my leg IK system from the last video. I just can't work it out and it's driving me mad! I'm on Blender 4.1 and I'm wondering if there's somehow a difference here that could be causing this. Any ideas much appreciated

    im getting some off bending in the knees. After setting up the IK, when I lift the leg, the knee drifts off to the side. Is there a way to keep it straight? not sure why it's doing this.

    This rig is truly cool, but is it fairly easy to rip it out of this guy, and put it into a new one? Can we design one super cool rig, and easily re-use it? Or does it become like trying to re-use a computer subroutine, where you discover every situation is unique and you're better off in the long run, to get get very good at making this rig from scratch?

    • @Dikko
      @Dikko  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah its pretty easy to reuse - you just gotta realign all the bones to fit the body you want and make sure not to fuck up the joint orientations. Most auto-riggers like Autorig pro basically are glorified joint re-positioning scripts.
