In a significant move, India joined hands with the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), a US led navy alliance comprising of 43 partner nations last year. Experts see this as a shift from New Delhi's usual policy of maintaining strategic autonomy in defence matters. Last month, commandos from the Indian Navy were involved in an operation - which led to the seizure of 940 kilograms of narcotics. This operation, called "crimson barracuda" was completed in collaboration with CMF. While nations joining forces with other defence partners for joint operations overseas is not new, this collaboration is different. It comes at a time when India faces challenges from a more assertive China. In recent years, China has sent more vessels to the Indian Ocean region. As India prepares to counter China on the high seas, how will its partnership with CMF help it contain Beijing's growing aggressions? Palki Sharma brings you a report.
