All blame falls on the Murdoch's and their treasonous media cabal. Any nation has enough psychologically weak and ignorant voters to create a significant movement around, but it takes a single person of such malicious intent and capital means as Murdoch to launch it.

The Electoral College. Votes in a few key swing states can decide the election, so the campaign needs to appeal to voters in a small handful of roughly evenly divided states. That's how it's a competition. Oh, and the Supreme Court is very partisan and fully in Trump's corner, so his felony convictions weren't ruled as grounds for disqualification from office.
It's a really stupid system and I hope I live to see it replaced. FPTP is a horrible way to run elections.

The electoral college system may have been fit for purpose all those years ago when it was introduced, but times have changed and now it stinks. The result should depend on how many voters nationally vote for each candidate, which often gives the opposite result from the EC system. The whole idea of democracy is that everyone's vote carries equal weight regardless of who they are or where they live, but as it is if you live in some states your vote will have more effect on the overall result than if you live in other states. But hey, with people like Trump around it's becoming ridiculous to even use the words America and democracy in the same sentence anyway.

In fact, she cast the deciding vote no less than 33 times in the Senate for laws that directly increased inflation and rose the national debt to an eye watering 34 trillion dollars. Harris supported the forgiveness of student debt despite the fact that most Americans opposed it AND the Supreme Court told the administration it was unconstitutional - they did it anyway.
