Bach composed Unaccompanied Cello suites between 1717-1723 in Köthen, Germany. These most interpreted and known Cello Works, consist of 6 suites. (BWV1007, BWV1008, BWV1009, BWV1010, BWV1011, BWV1012)
Solo (unaccompanied) suites consist of six movements/parts: prelude, allemande, courante, sarabande, minuets or bourrées or gavottes, gigue
Each suite starts with prelude and all the other movements are based on baroque dance types.

Yes, that lone dislike, if he or she is a musician, may want to take a long, hard look in the mirror. Mr. Maisky's interpretations of all six suites are the best I've ever heard, and I've been studying them for many years.
That's why I save it for special occasions.
I'd never be able to play it as often as the Prelude to the third suite, but when I do, it's for a reason, and I enjoy it enough to more than compensate for its seemingly annoying length.

at first, i didnt really liked the 4th suite, but im working on it this semester and ive come to like it very much!
the second half of this sarabande is quite powerfull and touching, and when mischa's playing it, it seems so effortless...
