How To Disable your Microwave when running on inverter power

  • This video shows how I conserve power when running on inverter power, by disabling my microwave.
I've done this in all of the inverter equipped RVs I've owned.
My inverter is wired so it provides power to ALL circuits in my AC breaker panel, which is the reason for doing this mod. The microwave doesn't need to be ON all the time when I'm using the inverter. When it's powered on, the clock is using power.

We went with the convection oven and then chose to do the 120v 2 burner ceramic cooktop mod to our Arctic Fox. Thankfully, the convection oven gives us the option to turn off the clock, so we don't have to deal with that annoying light in the evening.
We just added a wall hanging Dickerson diesel burning fireplace near the back door, during this Christmas break. We opted out getting the back windows when we ordered our 2022 arctic fox 865.
Now we're having one of our upper cabinet doors modified all because it's hitting the exhaust of Dickerson heater. If it isn't one thing it's another. Yeah I didn't quite have the greatest plan when I started.😂
However we do love the Dickerson so far, it just sips the fuel. He was in the teens last weekend, when we went out and tested the system.
I ordered a stainless steel box that will attach to the outside back wall, all to hold a diesel fuel cell. Hopefully I'll be here in the next week.
We still have the OEM furnace that circulates heat in the basement keeping those pipes and water tanks nice and toasty, on those extreme cold nights.
Now thinking about adding one or two of those computer fans to help with circulating the cabin heated air throughout the basement, but still haven't quite worked out how to do that yet.
Last year's big mod was adding the 12-volt roof-mounted AC, 420w of solar up top, then upgraded our batteries to lithium batteries and then added the froli sleep system, that truly made a huge difference.
It's funny, my buddies are always turning wrenches, spending money on their hot rods and motorcycles. That's all they seem to talk about when we meet up at the diner for lunch. Me, I had to go by myself an arctic truck camper, yeah me 😂
Maybe that's why I'm just sitting here rambling, yeah 😂
I like your upgrade, and of course enjoy your videos. My question is, have you ever had to service your lifting jacks?
While I'm waiting for that stainless steel fuel cell box to arrive, I've turned my attention to the camper jacks. So if you have or are planning on doing any videos when it comes to your camper jacks, would love to see it.

One of my jacks has issues and needs serviced. It barely lifts. It goes really slow.

@@deltabravo1257 I just got told that Charles Coushaine made a detailed video of servicing lifting jacks. Haven't yet went to his TH-cam channel but I've seen his video so I'm pretty sure he would probably have something on his channel. If I learn anything I'll reach out to you and let you know.

Appreciate your content and your mod seems like a handy power saving hack.
Question, is the switch/socket you installed rated for high enough Amperage for that microwave? You may need to check it could be dangerous (fire) if it’s too low. Your breaker will not stop this because it’s rated for the microwave.
Also, I don’t know if you realize but there is a lot of video flickering in the scenes inside your RV. It’s because your camera is recording (60 frames per second) and your lights are running at the exact same speed (60hz) You may try to adjust the lights in your Rv (if you have a light dimmer) or possibly the recording speed (if it’s an iPhone settings/camera, don’t know other cameras but google “frames per second” and camera name) of your camera; or it may not be possible. Again, thanks for the idea.

The lights are DC, not AC. The reason they are flickering is because I didn't have the dimmer set to full brightness. DC dimmers operate on a function called "Pulse Width Modulation" (or PWM). My lights are LED. The PWM dimmer rapidly switch the lights on and off, which causes flickering when they are being recorded by a camera, due to them being LED.

@@deltabravo1257 Yep that was my first suggestion, I did not realize you already were familiar. Was just trying to help. I can delete the comment if you like,

It turns out my microwave is on a 20 amp breaker, so I need to put in a 20 amp switch/outlet. The one I installed is only rated a 15 amps. I suspect the reason a 20 amp circuit it installed is because maybe a "convection microwave" (an option) needs a 20 amp circuit.
That flickering is pretty annoying, so I'm going to make a new video.

@@deltabravo1257 you could verify the amps on the back of the microwave first. It may be a shred circuit although unusual for a microwave. Best of luck.

    Just unplug it.

It's easier to flip the switch rather than fumble with a plug.
