I actually never knew that Patrine was a half-breed until I saw her the symbol on her heroes art. This game hides that fact really well.
Yeah. Zelgius had his mark on his back so he could hide it easily. Micaiah always had to wear that glove on her hand. We don't even see where Stefan has his mark. It's a very clever means of hiding you don't expect at a first glance.

I found this conversation by accident just the other day replaying path of radiance. That absolutely means that Petrine is half-laguz half-beorc. Actually crazy that a Daein general is a halfling.
And this means she beat another beorc (human) general to the punch on that matter, lore wise, being a halfling, and all!

Petrine is such an interesting character. I kinda wish she survived so that we could learn more about her and maybe see her grow as a person. She seems redeemable.
Maybe When Intelligent System Remaster/Remake Path of Radiance,
Petrine Will have her own Support.

@Lutumaru yeah Petrine is just a racist who hates and kills her own people right? She just seemed kind of off to me. Despite being a really good F2P unit that is why I haven’t built her yet.
What I find interesting about this exchange is that Soren isn't someone with a strong moral compass. He typically advocates for courses of action that would see the most benefit for the Greil Mercenaries (like when he proposes that they hand Elincia over to Daein early in the game), regardless of the morality of those decisions; however, aside from the time he throws racist insults at Mordecai and Lethe (which, while this isn't an excuse, we later find out in his supports with Ike was him taking out his anger over the beast laguz who discriminated against him as a child for being Branded), he never goes out of his way to be cruel just for the sake of being cruel. The majority of the decisions he makes are fueled by pragmatism rather than malice, the aforementioned incident being one of the few exceptions. Petrine, on the other hand, is a very deliberately cruel person. Aside from showing prejudice against the laguz like Soren, she also threatens to kill the soldiers under her command if they retreat and degrades some of her own allies for being immigrants. She contrasts Soren yet at the same time shows the kind of person he could have become if he never had someone like Ike in his life, a scared child hiding her fear behind a wall of hatred. The fact that he reacts so strongly to her claim of the two of them being the same shows that even though he may act amoral, he does have some standards. Petrine is a foil to Soren. In the end, Petrine dies on the battlefield, alone and afraid, while Soren lives on and grows as a person. By the time we see him again in Radiant Dawn, his hatred of the laguz has noticeably lessened, and provided you have him at an A support with Ike, he leaves with the man he loves for lands unknown, likely staying by his side for the rest of Ike's life.
There is no proof or anything explicitly said por or rd that proves Ike is gay. Only gross coomers believe that.

Well, it’s not really confirmed wether Soren loved Ike or not but we can assume they’re like brothers in the end.
Personally, I believe that if the Tellius games had been made today, Ike and Soren's relationship would've been explicitly romantic.@@voltron77

I actually found this convo by accident when I had Soren nuking basically everyone on the battlefield. He was the only one up in Perrine's vicinity so I had him attack. He took her out and dodged her counter attack completely :0
Soren getting the most Soren stat ups possible made me nostalgic for this game.
They really did Petrine dirty having her be so mediocre in Magic if the only weapon she was gonna have was her iconic Flame Lance in battle. Least they could have done is nearly maxing it out or outright maxing it out so she'd come off as an actual threat among the 4 Daein Riders.

@@samloyd9287 Petrine in particular is iconic for her Flame Lance and her attitude. To not give her the Flame Lance would be a waste. They also could have boosted the power of that rare magic weapon. Instead she's a woefully easy target for decently leveled Mages and Sages as she can't deal significant damage to them unless they are very slow or very unlucky in Resistance. Honestly her parameters in general were very mediocre. Bergan and the other general that threatens Geoffrey were notably stronger in just about every way.
Why not just make it scale with strength
@@xdan- I mean, sure it could work, but either way she needed a boost in multiple spots, magical or otherwise. Beating her is supposed to be a very satisfying turn of the tide of the war, but she herself is very bland as a boss. I'd have made none of her stats be under 20 and given her an HP of no less than 50. Make her worthy of the title "Four Riders" as you close in on Ashnard.
That's a hella boosted Soren lmao

I always wondered what type of laguz parents each of these halflings had.
Soren came from the black dragons and Petrine, though I don't remember my reasons for this speculation, is from the tigers.
God, these games have been so long ago! Which others were there? Micaiah obviously was from the herons which had to do with Sephiran. Zelgius came from the ravens. And then there was Stefan, the lion dude in the desert. I feel like there were more of them. Now I really want to replay the games xD

But the thing about the wolf branded was that they were free to live in Hatari for they were unbiased there, so it's unlikely Amy would have been from the wolves who all live in Hatari. Unless something really unfortunate happened and she somehow crossed the desert to be found on the other side.
It was confirmed in the lore book for PoR that Petrine was indeed a Tiger branded so you were right to speculate that. Also fun fact about Stefan, he's confirmed to be descended from Soan, one of Ashera's Chosen Heroes.

Oh I remember suspecting something about Stefan was special and figured the mention of Soan wasn't random, but I never connected the two. Or at least, not that I remember. When I have free time I will definitely replay the radiance games xD

Soren's defense...
The Flame Lance is a Mag vs. Res based weapon, like Tomes. Being a Sage, Soren would probably have high Resistance.

Petrine's lance does magic damage.
Which is why Soren is the best option to fight her.
For the first time I played the Tellius series, I thought Petrine was Soren's mother to explain the Branded heritage, and after finding out the truth from Radiant Dawn's epilogue...I still wish it was this way. [Spoilers]
I hated the bullshit twist that Almedha wasn't actually Pelleas' mother, but Soren's, making the latter Ashnard's true son. I get it, a little bit, it was put in place so the ending to Radiant Dawn doesn't change. Even if Pelleas survives, Micaiah will still end up being the ruler of Daein, because ooh, I'm not Ashnard's son, or, whatever...Either way, I could totally see Petrine just throwing Soren away, and not even recognize him when he shows up to kill her.
Wait, when do we find out Soren's Mom? I feel like, despite the number of times I've played this game, it still has secrets to tell.
@@mattwilliams1002 After you complete it the first time and play it again, new events occur in the story. If Pelleas and Soren both survive until the end, Almedha mentions it off-hand during the ending.
The epilogue don't change bc making Soren Daein's king would have made his character arc for nothing, he makes his own path as his own person and also marks the end of Almedha's one, she stops being clingy and desperate for her son to accept and move away.
@@CursedCatTruffa Well, of course. I couldn't envision a timeline where Soren becomes Ruler of Daein. Not that he's incapable, but that he wouldn't want to.
That said, Soren wasn't the focus of my argument due to that fact. It was only really regarding Micaiah and Pelleas. I just found that "big" revelation of Soren actually being Prince of Daein, and not Pelleas was completely pointless other than giving a reason Pelleas doesn't become King in the epilogue, and letting you use him as a unit.
@@TwoHeadedMeerkat Fair point, the only reason I think Pelleas didn't keep being a king was bc nobody can be sure with some dude who can't read something he signs without reading to rule a country idk also could be bc of Micaiah's love for Daein and her wish for the best for the country are the best qualities a ruler must have, and let's be honest, she has more balls than Pelleas to take decisions

Soren explains it in his support with Ike. Laguz are horrible to Branded. Even worse than beorc are.
The most racist/ prejudice people tend to be mixed with the thing they hate the most. Kinda like how converts are the most hostile to their previous religion.

@@JmdMagic Yea, I know what seeing yourself as a freak is like. Others see you that way, you see yourself that way. In the end it fuels a desire to burn the world and everything in it.
Who taught her that? go into a Laguz house in the first mission with them and you'll see exactly why. Because fear breeds hate and hate breeds suffering. If you don't learn to enjoy the worst then you really do go insane. So anyone that can enjoy it is at least able to make the best from the worst. People fear that. Because they fear being weaker then the monsters before them.
I do not have that fear. For I know the results I get with monsters. I speak the language of the beasts. In this they have a place. A place others do not give them. Consideration does wonders. Only the weak hold grudges.
