    When Gabriel tells Frankie to explain to him why he should get him a new phone. The smartest thing that Frankie could've said was this:
    "You got Martin a new phone when he ruined it by peeing on it."
    I would've loved to have seen Gabriel's response to that.

    • @thedarkninja2000
      @thedarkninja2000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      Gabriel mentions that only in his shows. There’s no way Frankie watches his Dad’s shows, otherwise he’d probably be a LOT smarter and more informed.

      He would probably said "Martin works for me, he needs a phone so I can get in contact with him" Franky "What if you need to get in contact with me" Fluffy " I live with you Franky, I don't live with Martin" that's how I see conversion play out if he asked that question or something similar to that.

    "A cell phone isn't a necessity for a teenager, it's a luxury!" Me: Fluffy, can you tell that to any spoiled rich kid who has one as well as who has a tablet, iPad or any other useless electronic device please?

    • @joshiki1827

      I didn't get a cell phone until I was in grade 10. Well that's most for all asian countries.
      But these european, NA country kids have an expensive ipad, cell phones allowed in elementary level, have a PS or x box for gaming, has a desktop or has a laptop seperate for online classes.
      Literally they take everything for granted. A brand new phone on market = a new purchase ditch that old phone. Buys an expensive phone just to show off knows nothing about its specs just need good quality camera.

      These days it is a necessity. If you don't have a phone you will most likely not be part of anything happening at school or in your friend circle because they use their phones for basically anything. Back when I started university I did not have facebook. So for the first semester I barely managed to get half the infos about shit because I had to rely on others to relay the infos that got shared on facebook which obviously did not work every time. That is the same for whatsapp groups etc these days.
      Even if they didn't I have to have a cell phone to prove my vaccination status to even go into most stores.
      Yes it is funny and I know he is just making jokes but the message really does not hold up. Also saying it is his responsibility for having his phone STOLEN is dumb.
      Funny as it is the whole scenario is dumb.

      The same stores which practice that form of discrimination based on vaccine status must also accept printed proof…
      It was frankies responsibility to
      A ) not show it off - advertise it’s good thus making it a target
      B ) TURN IT OFF AND KEEP IN HIS BAG/POCKET…or make sure his locker is more secure…
      Side note…you mention this being in UNIVERSITY…he’s referring to teenagers not needing phones from the aspect of under 16

    Back in the early days of my marriage, we only had one car. One of my part-time jobs was driving a charter coach. There were no cell phones and the garage where I returned the bus did not have a phone accessible to the drivers after hours. We pre-planned "the code" phone call. I would stop at the nearest truck stop or other location with a public phone before returning the bus and "call collect." She would refuse the charges and know that I needed to be picked up in about 30 or 45 minutes at the bus garage after cleaning and refueling the coach. You gotta do what you gotta do. 🚌

    When Gabriel asks his son to give him a good reason to get a new phone, I can’t believe that Frankie didn’t give the more obvious answer: “Our teachers require us to keep our phones in our lockers during class. Yes, the phone is my responsibility, but I still have to follow our teachers’ rules.” There’s no way that a teenage boy goes to school in pants without any pockets, so he had to have had a good reason for putting the phone in his locker, rather than keeping it on himself. But then again, Frankie doesn’t sound like the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

    • @TheKastellan
      @TheKastellan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      Yeah I can understand the argument that he doesn't necessarily NEED it, but none of what happened was his fault at all and it makes complete sense for a teen to be concerned and anxious in such a situation. Obviously this isn't the full story but it does feel like he should of calmed down his son first and foremost before anything instead of seemingly egging him on.

    • @thedarkninja2000
      @thedarkninja2000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@TheKastellan the fact he doesn’t need it is irrelevant. My argument is based on Gabriel’s earlier point that taking care of the phone was Frankie’s responsibility. Frankie isn’t responsible for making sure his locker is burglar proof. Nor would he be responsible for keeping it in his locker if his teachers asked him to keep it there, which is the reason I’m guessing why he kept it there. My argument is going off the assumption that Frankie knows that a cell phone for a teenager isn’t a luxury.

      Cell phones weren't really mainstream until the turn of the century. I had a pager in the 90s. And a landline.
      "Hey, can I borrow your phone?" back then meant coming INTO the house to use a phone hooked up to the wall.
      Given how you phrased parts of your comment, I have to wonder about the validity of the entire thing. But at least the question (is it really a luxury?) is legit.
      That said... yes. It's a luxury. My kids are fortunate to each have a cell phone, but they have both lost that PRIVILEGE multiple times for various reasons.

    I'm glad I was born in a small town just early enough to be able to know what payphones are, they just had a weird magic to them as a kid

    Luxury or not, I still feel bad that Frankie and his friend had his locker broken into. But him not going immediately to the office to talk about the stolen phone really shows how important it was to get that phone back immediately…

    Man I forgot about the unique ways to get your message across, imbedded as your name, when making a collect call. There used to be a website that had tons of them and people would post what they successfully were able to get through on.
