  • Come take a tour of Ficarra's shop on Wingnut Manor!
Two Porsche 911s and a Jaguar D-Type in the house, but is the D-Type real? And what's the difference between a short wheel base and long wheelbase 911? And what is a Bahama Mama? John's got some answers.

You’re overselling the Jag’s twitchiness, John-as long as it’s disassembled and up on four jackstands, my car feels TOTALLY FINE.

@@FicarraClassic Getting light on the ground now with the 420G compliments of the Hotrod builders and tinworm.
Mine was a budget build back in the day piano black formerly burr walnut timber trim and satin black duco but mechanically she was spot on. Stripping out the massive amount of horsehair deadening too made a huge difference in weight and of course moisture :-) but the older XK engines are a work of Art.

Very cool John! Please keep excellent content like this coming!
I've got in interesting one for discussion... There is a Lynx XKSS at my work currently, and I noticed when we had the rear undressed for a new bladder in the fuel cell that there are TWO vacuum boosters in the rear to operate those super-sweet inboard disc brakes. 1) Why would they only boost the rears? 2) Why independent boosters for each caliper and not one for the pair? 3) is this something found on real XKSS's? Or just replicas like the Lynx?
    Keep on rockin' sir!

If you put a Lambo V12 racing engine with a bunch of turbos in these you can go a gazillion miles an hour. I found this out from the documentary called Forza Horizon! True story!

Awesome tour! Hey, any idea what the final drive ratio is on the D-Type? To get to that kind of speed you’d need something crazy like a 2.80. I’d love to know what’s in there!

Will the d type have crossplies or radials fitted? Does that make a big difference in suspension set up?

    • @FicarraClassic
      @FicarraClassic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It's fitted with Vredestein Sprint Classic radials. They look like old bias plies but have all the benefits of radials. Bias plies wander a lot, are softer and don't take a lot of camber, so setup is very different between them and radials.

  • @kavinskysmith4094

No the short wheel base is so you can point out what car is the reason why your dad went for a 914 over a 911, and the long one is the one they should have made from the getgo, as that stupid thing at 80 mph on the autobahn lifts off and slides as you go around a bend lol
and put one of the guys he was working with, in a hospital for 6 months after a salesmen who was taking year old 911's that got traded in, for a test drive with the GI's over there, and they came around a bend in the forest, lost the back end and ended up in a tree
so now I know what to look for and NOT go for lol as I knew they did the spoilers in the front and the oil tank in 72 to keep the nose down, along with the wider wheels and flares, but not that they actually modified the chasis by a whole two god damn inches in the same damn period lol
kinda not unlike the Ford Explorer thing where all they had to do to keep them from flipping over with the flinstone tires, was to make the wheelbase an inch wider.
which I actually saw the Direct result of in person, and it didnt end well for the people in the back of the trailer it was pulling, wet rainy day, blow out, flipped on its side with the trailer sitting there
and then the next time I went down their were crosses there
so yeah........ long wheel base only then, GOT IT lol as you sports car people are crazy with the crap you put up, as even the miura wasnt THAT bad lol
like 90% of the car is great, just dont go driving it fast, like wut lol
