  • The Porsche 928 is one of my favorite cars of all time, and my goal is to build my dream version of a first year car. But do I really need four cars to do it? Let's take a tour of the collection and find out what the heck I am going to do with them. Don't forget the 928 quick history towards the end!

A V-10 sounds sick if they elongated the front like the Ferrari 365gts "Daytona" especially if they made convertibles I think they would have looked amazing.

I bought my “cheap” 928 S4 and spent 5 years doing all the things to make my dream car, full mechanical refresh, paint, interior, etc. Finally starting to just enjoy the car. Feel like I’ve seen this movie and really looking forward to watching John and team do the same for our entertainment. Much more entertaining when its someone else’s wallet and sweat equity.

The story of my life. I get alot of calls on 928 work, and guess what?!!?, its always just like John is saying, they are NEVER running. "Ive got an 85 928 that hasnt run in 8 years" I get this kind of call 7-10 times a month. Not my bag, but Im actually excited to see what the happens with these 4. Sweet video John!!

I absolutely love the Porsche 928. I fell in love with it at first sight, back as a kid in the early 80's. It's my all time dream car. I'd rather have a 928 than any other multi-million dollar hypercar. I hope to one day have more 928's than anyone else. I would also like to do for the 928, what Singer did for the 964. Thank you.

I think the correct ratio of 928s is actually 4:1 because only one of the 4 tends to be in fully working order at a time. The other 3 simply serve to keep the one functioning at all times.

Looking forward to this series - I'm a big an of the 928.
My family lived in (West) Germany in the late 70s / early 80s and I can recall stopping in a serivce staiton on the autobahn and a metallic brown 928 with a fruity exhaust rumbled in next to our family saloon. It must have had an aftermarket exhaust because it sounded epic. Even my mum who wasn't into cars commented on how great it sounded!
A thought on the brakes. If it were my car I'd mae every effort to keep the original wheels - going up in diameter and fitting lower profile tyres will cmpromise the aesthetics in my view. Maybe look into modern pads / discs or even a dual caliper setup (a la Bentley) to retain the small discs and wheels?

John has one of the very best sense of automotive humor. Now wasn’t the 928 known for 2 very strategic concepts. The first and most obvious being the 911 replacement? And the second being the cars the Porsche engineers thought was either single most technically advanced or the car the engineers were most proud? It may be rumored. But rings a bell somehow.

That blue (Petroleum Blau) is my favourite 928 colour. You're right about the sunroof 924s/944s sunroofs are a better solution - only leaves a frame when removed - though perhaps 928 owners don't want the bother of manually removing the roof. The tilt is electric though.

Aged 9 or 10, I got a plastic model for Christmas that I spent the holidays on assembling, reading the story of the car as I built it. That cemented my love for Porsches, albeit when the time came to buy my first Porsche, I took the sensible route and got a beautiful -90 964 C4 that I still own to this day 9 yrs later alongside 2 other P-cars. I still find the transaxle Porsches irresistibly beautiful to look at and an itch I need to scratch. Hopefully a manual GTS in amethyst with a black interior💜 I also have an inexplicable craving for a pristine 924 Turbo 2 or a Carrera S as I find the petite 924 the prettiest of all transaxles. The 944 I can’t stand the look of, but the 968 very intriguing as the last iteration of the lineage.

Love the passion for the 928 but the silver Euro 1978 is clearly not as penned by the designer as it has a front chin spoiler that would not have been on the car when built. The front chin spoiler was released with the S model in 1980 and likely would have been added by a previous owner in the ‘80’s to make it look like the current model.
