Etrian Odyssey is a long-running RPG series developed by ATLUS. As a massive ATLUS Shin Megami Tensei & Persona fan , I’ve always wanted to try out Etrian Odyssey. When Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection was announced for PC & Nintendo Switch I knew this was finally my shot at trying out Etrian Odyssey for the first time. This is one of those games that I wish got a ff7:re graphical facelift but kept everything under the hood vanilla~ I feel the same about chrono trigger but alas not fixing what isn't broken is a good move for this remake~
No! I have limited spending money and limited storage space on my PS4.
Etrian Odyssey IV was my first ATLUS game and I instantly loved the series and went back and played the older games and all the newer games. It's a bit of a shame that ATLUS didn't port the Untold versions of EO1 and EO2 since they really shine... if you can get them and play them on the 3DS, I highly recommend it.
Also, Persona Q (in particular) and Q2 (to a lesser degree) are Persona games in an Etrian Odyssey engine and are great. The only reason I got into Persona 3 and 4 was because I was so excited when I heard the announcement of Persona Q that I wanted to get to know the characters beforehand.
I love SMT... I like Persona a lot... but EO will always be my favourite franchise, I think.
I own Untold 2 and have played up to the final boss of 4 (Still haven't beat it tho), and yeah, it's fun. 4 singlehandedly made me appreciate the DRPG genre. I think a big part of that is the manual mapping system. I LOVE that, and I wish it wasn't just an EO-exclusive thing (Outside of Persona Q/Q2, anyway).
I've been a longtime fan! I played the first game on an emulator for a couple stratums, and then went out to buy the 3rd game since the original was impossible to find. I've bought every game (except the HD remaster you mention here) since then. I'm SO glad that these switch remasters are here, and I'm looking forward to buying them when I can, so I can encourage them to make even more! I think that with their accessibility on the Switch, more people than ever will be able to play them, and I hope the fandom expands!
I'm done with all 3 games and had a blast playing it. The exploration and map creation were oddly satisfying. I hope they will also ported or remake the rest of the etrian games to swtich 😁

Now you can get hyped when the innevitable Etrian Odyssey VI is officially announced! Can't believe we got that teaser around the same time SMT V got its own. It felt like an eternity waiting for news of SMT V but now it has released and EO IV is still nowhere to be seen...

i dont think ive played an atlus game with bad music. ive been looking to get into this. time to get it
Ronin + Dark Hunter + War Mage (as Healer) + Gunner + Hexer, my favourite team.
Good to see that you're appreciating the first one. Most people just say to jump to 3 but Atlus fans would be able to appreciate all 3 games, even with their own quirks.
In 1 all classes have their chance to shine and be powerful, even with the ones introduced late. In 2 the balance changes and additions to the base game lead to...an interesting experience. In 3 the new additions/features and customization lead to an awesome experience and promote replayability.

Really? That's crazy. Each title has their own charm. It's not like you are going back to 4 c color graphics or something (did that with the Ultima games on pc).

Best Switch rpg i ever played in a while
As expected the price is abusive in my country, but with a nice 80% I'm willing to buy the trilogy to feed my ATLUS masochist fanboy side

I was iffy on getting this game as I always heard the story was very, very light, but I might have to check it out since you really liked it!
If you own a 3ds (or can emulate) you can play the remakes of the first 2 games that have more story.

@@keqing4285the story modes or 1 and 2 Untold completely defeat the purpose of the games in the first place. They aren’t supposed to have “Story Modes” since the games themselves already have plenty of story. Also, 1 and 2 Untold aren’t remakes, they’re reimaginings. They’re basically completely separate games.
@@JustHistory_Guy what do you mean defeat the "purpose of the games"? The purpose of games are to have fun. Im playing now through untold 1 myself and I enjoy the new characters and new additions.
Is it sad that I own the originals as ds carts of 1 and 2, own the 3ds remakes and eo4, and now want to buy this collection because it's 50%off? Ne er owner eo3 for some weird reason.
I never finished them on ds/3ds and always feel weary playing the 3ds because if it breaks you can't go buy a new one like with the switch. Which also makes me think the next Nintendo console better have backwards compatibility with both digital and physical games.
What is different about Etrian Odyssey compared to Persona Q/Q2?
I have not played Persona Q yet so I cant tell sorry :(
Persona Q series was based on Etrain Odyssey, though both games have their own battle mechanics the the order of turns are the same in both games where you choose your action for every character and then they attack. Also Persona Q is more focused on interactions between party members and they appear in party as the story goes on unlike EO3 (that's the one I played) where you just recruit whoever you want and they don't really interact. Overall I think PQ is better than EO with it's quality of life improvements for labyrinth part and with it's persona spin on this style
@@TimurSokol Yeah I've played a bit of both PQ games so I don't really get the hype behind Etrian Odyssey. It just looks like PQ without the Persona branding
@@athorem I think the main difference is that EO can be played while watching something on the background because it's not focused on the story as much and you just explore the labyrinth and fight enemies randomly

@@DavidCastJRPGs I think Sega / Atlus testing waters to sell own future games for ,,new pricetag'' like other big publishers doing now (Sony, Square Enix etc.). And if i remember Persona 3 Remake will be their first game for 70$, not 60$.

@JohnKinney1 the first game has no story. And every single character and enemy in all games is a picture. A transparent image, also called a png. My description was perfectly accurate to the product. You reacted adversily because you love these games for some reason and it hurt your frail feelings. The least they could have done is animate the enemies or the characters. It is a bland rpg with barely any story where you can't even customize your characters. You choose a picture.
@@dannyd4339 no story? Once again, you didn’t play the game. If you did, you’d know there’s a plot and story, clearly you didn’t pay attention. Why is the first game targeted for having no story when it has just as much as a majority of the franchise. What even constitutes story in your eyes? The plot and lore go pretty deep, especially in the original DS trilogy. Also, the way the portraits work is you’re supposed to chose one and imprint personalities and backstories onto them. Using your imagination is a big part of these games and it’s so much fun. The lack of animations also gets the juices flowing. I love that aspect of these games, the attacks can be as plain or as amazing as you want them to be. The animated enemies are in IV onwards so there you go.
