    I started with EO4 on a whim, saw it in the store and was like "Sure Ill give it a shot, why not." Ended up loving the series and have gotten all of them since then. alot of what I love is the party customization, it's really neat that you can make the entire party from stratch and the depth that each class has makes it really fun to find neat ways they synergize.

      Martín Zárate I don’t wanna scroll past your comment without leaving a suggestion so, yes, you should definitely play the original DS games but just know that EO1 is insanely hard (unless you break it with Immunize or something) and EO2 isn’t easy either. I’d recommend getting EO3 if you want to play an original DS title although all of them are good regardless imo

      When I was a kid my brother played EO2 and all I knew was that it was the most crawerly of all dungeon crawlers full of optimization if you want to fight the Freakishly Overpowered Enemies. And then I saw EO4 releasing and loved the game

      Man, I used to be a streamer and now this was a series I did something in like two or three times a year. I'm planning to make more now though, since I stream pretty rarely now. I'm going to be getting at least one out before the year's done, maybe two if I'm really motivated. But I'm a college student with two jobs, so we'll see. Hopefully you like those too.

    I have played every single game.
    Yeah this basically my favorite series of all time and I bought it out of a whim and loved it and continued to buy every single title that came out. It IS criminally underrated. Heres the games in my op:
    EO1-Pretty flat. Not much variety but fun. Loved the story reveal of the world being post apocalyptic. Got all your classic RPG classes.
    EO2- better story than one and hard as BALLS if you make it to the end. Adds guns and samurai.
    EO3- THE BEST STORY. Multiple endings and multiple hard final bosses with lots of replay value. Different classes than the first two that are variants of the old ones and adds ninjas. Also introduced duel wielding and sub classes! And you get a boat to explore a whole map of new areas that aren't the tree! There's just so much to do in this one.
    EO4- pretty weak story, but the first seperate doungens. And there is pretty interesting lore in post game. I mean you get to fight bosses in a hot air balloon! Also added the food mechanic. And still has subclasses! A bit too easy with the broken skills.
    EO5-Like you said, best customization. Not the best story and a bit on the easy side. Introduces the race stat growth thing and a whole new line of classes. Introduces master classes for your builds. It's not sub classing but you can decide of you want a fencer that specializes in multi attacks or doging! Still have cool. Can make different types of food while camping. It's not restaurant but still nice to have. Wish the ending was more built up than just popping up in the last strata.
    EOU1- honestly I didn't like this one. No subclasses and brought the grimore stones. They were hard to get and a real hassle and I just didn't bother with them because they weren't worth it. Kinda a "meh" game. Story mode has animated cut scenes, and you get more backstory for the first story. And you have gunnner class which used to not be in this game. No real food mechanic here. I mean you have tea in some places but it's... Ehhh.
    EOU2- WAAAAAY better grimore system than last time. You can customized them way more and have a better selection of enemy skills. Adds more to the second story and brings back the food mechanic! No animated cutscenes but instead, animated stills!
    PersonaQ- nice spin off. Fun and keeps the charm of the series.
    Didn't play the mystery doungen games, but Pokemon will always be superior in that department. I found one of the biggest draws wasn't just how you could build your characters, but the level areas. Some are so unique from a forest made out of porcelain to a gravyard filled with zombie monsters.
    looking forward to EOX when it comes out in February!
    Edit:
    EOX- The biggest downside is that the story is pretty weak. I don't think they'll ever top 2,3, and 4 with lore. But this by far has the best game play dungeon crawler wise. You have a bunch of classes from all the games, plus some new stuff, full character customization on all of them which is great, as well as subclassing still. The dungens are fantastic, they bring back old ones, have new ones, with all the gimicks and old gimicks. FOEs that move in crazy unique ways you really need to think about how to avoid them and get all their special drops aswell as map. It's definitely a completionist game. I really wish we could've had something like in 3 and 4 with a new mode of travel and a new map... But they crammed so many of the old maps in here I can see why they would think that wasn't neccesary.

    • @lunarrobot9714
      @lunarrobot9714 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@martinzarate9683 I'd say 2 and 2 untold are pretty good. I'd skip the first one. And I honestly think you can skip untold one as well unless you're just ITCHING for that lore. The Untold games just puts faces of the characters your playing as if you play story mode and has some extra mechanics. And the extra mechanics in untold 1 are so half baked I didn't even use them. They're used way better and polished way more in untold 2. Three is one of the best, story and gamplay wise imo because it has 3 different endings. But be warned, 4 is like the easiest of all the games. So you may notice the difficulty spike. I'd probably say start with the ds ones and then untold has more extra stuffs. The untolds are easier than origionals as well in terms of difficulty.
      (And if you really liked the airship stuff in 4, you'll probably like three. It has that but with boats at the harbor with different places you can go to and cool boss monsters you can fight for rare items.)
      Hope this helps!

    For EOU2 I’d say the party isn’t broken but the Fafnir class is. The game definitely feels balanced more around him. You can do what he does in classic mode but it requires a well built party and set up.

    • @kellamyoshikage286
      @kellamyoshikage286 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If it was, why didn't they balance around Accelerate? If the game were actually balanced around Fafnir at all, we would see very low HP on bosses up until Scylla, after which HP would at least double on the spot as Fafnir finally gets the damage to compete with War Magus, let alone actual damage classes. As an example, level 20 Fire Wave with the Transform boost deals 1260% damage; around 14% more than what War Magus gets on any ailment, and just under a third what Dark Hunter gets with Ecstasy on a 3 bind enemy during Trance.

    I fell on love with the series when I played an EOV demo. I never played an rpg that had such in depth progression with such music to make the game feel so immersive. And the trial and error process of building a party that best suits your playstyle greatly outweighs the grind. But my most favorite aspect of the EO series is the fact your actions have consequences where you could either discover rare treasure, save someone's life, or throw your party into a no-win situation. Imo I feel that this series brings me the closest to actually being a true adventurer in a fantasy world where you follow your own path paved by your decisions.

    Never thought I would be the type of guy who likes these sort of games. Don't get me wrong, I've always liked rpgs, but I never really was into the hardcore doungen crawlers, but oh man I had no idea. I picked up U1 after hearing almost exclusively positive things about the series and absolutely fell in love. Shortly after I picked up U2 and loved that aswell.
    I've since bought 4, 5 and preorderd Nexus.
    I would love to get 3 aswell, however it costs about 90-100€ in germany, since it never got an european release and that is just a bit too steep for me at the moment, but I will definetly get it sooner or later, if not just to fill that ugly gap between 2 and 4, but also because I've heard many fans describe it as their personal favorite, so I'm curious as to what the buzz is all about.
    This series won my heart over like no other, and I'm excited to see where it's headed after Nexus. I get that it's kind of a niche type of game nowadays, but it's an absolute shame how underrated these games are, especially since so many people play jrpgs in rescent years and I feel like most of those people could also find enjoyment out of this series.

    I picked this game up when the original DS one came out years ago. I was around 12-13 at the time and didn't have a huge appreciation for the crushing difficulty of the game. But now it's actually one of my most revered games on the DS line of consoles. I just pre-ordered the final entry, Nexus earlier this morning with some of my Christmas money! I've only successfully beaten the fourth, but I love all the games and just have a hard time sinking in the 60-80+ hours on each entry to accomplish the win.

Another year past and I tried it again. And this time, something clicked, I got it, I finally understood the game and started to really like the game. I finally understood why etrian odyssey is the perfect rpg for me I ended up getting all the other games on 3ds. So pretty much the only one I have to look for is 3. Nowhere has it. As for now 5 is my favorite, and I do look forward to Nexus coming next year for us.

      Is it worth it to play V? I've sunk around 150 hours into IV and I really enjoy it, but seems like I'd just be starting from scratch to head into V and it may not be worth the effort. IV is the only EO I've played.

    • @Vulcanfaux
      @Vulcanfaux 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@beardyhat9547 well it is a different labyrinth new classes with a master system Instead of subclassing. I think it is, but at this point, maybe wait for nexus to come out. Since that is kinda a celebration of the series with 19 classes. Brings things from all the mainline games. Anyways for me it was worth it only because I like mapping out the labyrinth. Plus the dragoon is now my favorite version of the tank class in the etrian series. Has a cannon for their weapon.

    Often overlooked is the fact that the music for the ENTIRE SERIES was done by one Yuzo Koshiro, the man behind many an iconic Genesis soundtrack (most notably, Streets of Rage 2, although he also did some of the Shinobi games, Legend of Oasis, and a few of the 16-bit Ys titles).

    I started with 4 (like someone else who commented, just saw it on a store shelf randomly) and ended up falling in love with the series because of it! I've played EOU1, EMD, 4, 5(the only one I've beaten so far), and now Nexus(since it released earlier this month) I probably won't play the older games since I love a challenge but not beating my head against the wall trying to progress.
    Map making is so fun (though understandably time consuming) and mishmashing team comps or trying to run the whole game without changing party members/reclassing are both fun ways to play.
    though you're right, the series is waay too underrated, which is why I talk about it to most friends and draw fanart when I can, to hopefully draw more attention to an awesome series with so much going for it. but aaa I almost forgot thank you for making this video! I have played all except for EO2, as it's not released in Europe. My opinions are:
    EO1 - This is your basic Etrian Odyssey experience. It doesn't do anything overly fancy and it works really well. It can be broken in horrible ways if you know how to though, as it has a very notorious bug.
    EO3 - Essentially an upgraded version of EO1. Makes improvement on pretty much everything in the series and is the first where your choice as a player actively matters in the story of the game.
    EO4 - Short dungeons and really neat characters. Also the only one that lets you recruit special named characters with portraits you cannot choose otherwise.
    EOU - An amazing redone version of EO1. While you cannot get good grimoires easily, it lets you get skills that can easily round out the build of your party. The story mode is also a lot stronger than the one in its successor, in my opinion, as it's not hinged on a single party member. The people in your little home are very neat too. I personally immensely enjoyed having Kupala around.
    EOU2 - Good game, but has a terrible case of HP sponge bosses. Starting with Stratum 3, bosses have ridiculous amounts of HP while not dealing damage that would normally (read: EO1 or EO3 levels) come with that much HP. It made every fight feel like a battle of attrition rather than a challenge. The second dungeon, while good that it's open to the classic mode as well, is somehow much easier than the normal labyrinth.
    EOV - Best when it comes to customization and has the neat mechanic of having guest party members much more frequently than any other EO.
    EO Nexus - Whether you've never played EO or have played all/many of them, this game is the best signifier of everything that is EO. It's got a little bit of every game and it spins it all into a great story. What's especially nice is the hidden "class" of this game.

    I loved original Etrian Odyssey for its approach on player responsibility and the strong introduction of mapping the dungeon while being subject to danger. Risk/Reward with some worth the trial and others not. Please try the originals and reflect on them versus the games as they are now. Personally EO and EO5 are my favorites. The remakes are still fun, but they lack some of that majesty. Then again nostalgia is a bitch.

    I'm playing the first game and it is my first EO. What a grind! I got in quite a tight spot when I got to the second floor and the enemies were draining all my resources and killing my party. This required a ton of patience. But I made a come back and killed all the wolves. I was away from the town for so long I maxed out my inventory. There is a heal point by the wolves that made my quality of life so much better. I'm on my way back to town and I accidentally run into a crazy strong foe and i'm thinking "hours of work for nothing" but I come up with a very strange solution on the fly and end up beating it and getting massive loot. TP drained, I now have to get through the 2nd floor with only 4 characters. Not a very hard task but made much harder with no medicine or TP. In one battle I fudge up so bad and lose another two. I make it out alive and scamper back and enjoy all the booty I get. Finally after hours of grinding to a near halt, I am out of the red and can hopefully start enjoying the game again. Sometimes a big obstacle can really make you grow to a level of deep understanding. This game is no joke. It gets hard very quickly. I look forward to finishing it and getting to the other more acclaimed titles. It is ATLUS so I know they will be hard. And can't forget about Persona Q!

    I started with EOIV and it will always have a very special place in my heart!
    I have also played a little bit of EOV, EOIIU and EOX, all of which I greatly enjoy!
    Haven't had too much trouble with Untold II actually in classic mode, then again, I think I might have been playing on an easier difficulty.
    I'd say in general my favorite part of the game is the sheer customizability it comes when it comes to skills and party comp, and to a lesser extent subclassing/master titles.
    I'm not a huge fan of the reclassing systems and race systems however. I don't hate them, they just aren't quite my thing, as it becomes about optimization, which class/race should you turn into this other class instead. If that makes sense at all? I love reading people talk about which combos are best and wouldn't want the features removed, I just personally don't enjoy using them as much as subclassing/etc. to customize my characters.
    So I guess what I'm saying is sometimes I just want my medic to be a dang medic, gosh darn it! Or my Brouni poisoner-herbalist to stay a brouni! :( I don't care if I suffer for these choices.

    The mapmaking doesn't take me out of the experience because I imagine that one of my characters is drawing the maps, but I get annoyed when you have those little random moments where you find something cool in the labyrinth and decide what to do. It's super fun but the language is so vague most of the time, and when they use character names in one moment and "you" in another to describe whoever's taking the action, it reads as if "you" is the player, which is a separate entity to the party. That takes me out.

    I remember my first game of Etrian Odyessy. It number 3, and I remember finding it out either in a Nintendo Power or some other gaming magazine. I remember when I was skimming through the pages I found one let's set "the devil in the blue sea" and I was slightly interested. And from the pictures I saw, I was very interested in it because of the whole pirate aspect, or just the ship sailing. But the only problem was for the first time I saw it, I didn't see a name, or I should say I didn't look for a name. I need you to skim through the monthly gaming magazine that I could find at my local grocery store. So after awhile, I was interested in it. And then a little while later I found the magazine I was looking at. And found that the release date was coming soon. So with the little money I had because I was still a teenager. I bought the game and I had a fun time playing it. I mean, there was some part I didn't understand and others that were completely difficult. It would usually take me like a few week or more, just to get through one floor. But after some time I got used to it and had a blast on the adventure. so after all these years I have not finished the third game. it was a good time nonetheless. as well as some time later, I gotten the original Etrian 2 too; and that was also fun too.

    EO2U Classic isn't that hurt by the inclusion of the story mode party. Sure, Fafnir is pretty broken, but it's important to keep in mind that it's basically the only real damage dealer on the team. The Survivalist and War Magus can chip in with a little bit of damage, but to do anything significant you really need Fafnir. What this consequently means is that any classic party with at least two dedicated damage dealing classes will be able to make it through the game, especially since a classic party could further supplement with "half-damage" classes like the aforementioned Survivalist or War Magus and every class in the game is pretty good at doing it's job so you can't really fall into a trap of choosing the wrong class, you just need to be aware of the strengths of each class and plan accordingly. Even something like Ronin which is probably the worst class in the game still does perfectly acceptable damage, it just doesn't stack up as well to your other damage dealers compared to the associated downsides (at least until you get a good Peerless combo setup, then it does some pretty amazing damage during Force Boost, but that won't really happen until post game). It's really more like Fafnir is balanced around how the game already was and wanting to stick with the team comp they gave the story party (which they really couldn't have fit another damage dealer in without either limiting the War Magus' front line use or just using a class that was used 1U) rather than the other way around.

    *rolls in.* Honestly, I like all the games, though personally I liked the 4th one the best because I actually liked the story and it was my first EO game that I personally owned. Plus, it has the Bushi Class aka Furries with Giant Katanas and the Arcanist class, aka the tree people.
    I've basically kept my first Bushi character in my heart, gave her a bigger backstory, set her subclass as dancer, and brought her into Etrian Odyssey Nexus as a Ronin(Thank god for the free portraits).
    The EO game I like the least has to be the Mystery Dungeon one. And just two words that made be rage quit. Fake. Difficulty.
    It's especially noticeable with the FOEs in the game, where you can't hurt them unless they have a bind for the big ones or a status effect for the small ones. And this was frustrating when one big one got in the way of the stairs down.

    I'd recommend starting with any game between 4 and 5, as they have great QoL aspects and solid class balance (however that's arguable in the Untold games, but I didn't have much trouble). Nexus calls back to a lot of the previous titles and has quite slow pacing, esp in the early stages, so I recommend leaving it until later, but there's nothing wrong with starting with it as it is the newest game. In defense of the Untold story modes, they have a fun cast, the new labyrinths are fun to explore, and the additional story elements related to said labyrinths are pretty cool. Sure, they take away class creation, but you can always experience the story mode after classic, or in 2U's case, just have separate saves for classic and story. Also the Fafnir is very, very cool and I'm a sucker for "hidden transformation power" stories. Mr. "No more games!!!" my beloved.
    3 is still my fave game, however, and if you are up to the challenge, I highly recommend playing it

  • @hardrockmusickid
    @hardrockmusickid 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I first got into EO with the EO 4 demo. I hadn't heard of this series, never heard of Atlus before playing, to be honest, but I fell hard for that demo and played it endlessly. Then I played the Untold 1 demo, then Untold 2, then 5 and I enjoyed them all. I still haven't beaten any of these games yet though. I'm 55 hours into the Stroy mode for Untold 2, only about an hour or two into the Classic mode. I want to focus on one mode and beat that, then to have my focus split between two modes. Plus, I really like the story mode of Untold 2, of course, I realize it's a fixed party I can't change, but that's why classic mode is there. Not like Atlus replaced one thing for another, I thought why not give it a go. I've played 1,2,3 also but the early games are pretty grind-heavy, so I backed away from them until I've beaten Untold 2. I also have Etrian Mystery Dungeon, it's the first EO I owned physically really. I really like that too, as I really like the Mystery Dungeon formula. EMD has a system where the player can drop off unused party members so they can get EXP and that really opens the game up for party diversity. One of my problems with mainline EO is even though I can make a new guild member whenever I want, why would I when they start at level 1? In EMD, party members can be swapped in out as I please with a fairly ignorable level difference. I'm so excited for Nexus and is definite must buy for me.

    • @RoboticBomberV2
      @RoboticBomberV2  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You bring up a good question here and to that I point out that if you have a high level guild member and a weaker new recruit you have the option to bring them to a deep floor and level them extremely quickly. Though, it is rude of me to say what basically amounts to "just grind, stupid", and I apologize if this comes off as mean or obvious. I get that not a lot of people have as much time to waste as my dumb ass. Oh, and thank you for reminding me of EMD. That's a game I picked up and never quite finished, I'll probably get around to it when I'm done with Ace Attorney.

    • @hardrockmusickid
      @hardrockmusickid 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's alright. I don't think you came off as rude. I thought about grinding a weaker guild member like that, but it can also be a time consuming, but well worth it I would imagine. EO is a dungeon crawler so grinding should be expected from the player. EMD depends on how much you like the mystery dungeon style of play, if not then I say skip it. I also like how if you fail in a dungeon, you can have your other guild members go to the floor you lost on to save you. I like that, really made me feel like I was apart of a guild.

    I actually think the Depth Dancers are great - too often, you can remove the challenge of navigation by simply killing the FOEs that you're supposed to avoid.
    With Depth Dancers on F28/F30, you have to carefully manage encounter rates/positioning/battle time.
    EO2U is unique in EO series in that it changes the way you stack buffs - diminishing returns are very severe, so you are forced to stack specific buffs in order to deal damage to bosses with huge HP. Can be frustrating if you don't actually know about this mechanic.

    Okay so I'm going to do the same thing as @Lunar_Robot and share my thoughts on each game and even copy their format. For this video, I agree with most things but not all. The story modes, for example, I really enjoyed.
    EO1- I agree with the statement about being pretty flat. It's very linear and is pretty much pure dungeon crawling. There were a lot of things that were still unrefined and while it is fun if you are a classic game player and don't mind NES-era FF1, FF2, Dragon Quest, etc -type grinds, this game may be for you. If you're more contemporary, I am afraid this game may scare you off, especially not having a story mode.
    EO2- New classes, MUCH harder than EO1, but I like the dungeon designs more, personally. Not much of a change over the original otherwise.
    EO3- I disagree with the best story comment, I argue it's TIED for the best story with Untold 2. Granted, Untold 2 has absolutely BROKEN party members that drastically change the way you play the story versus the classic mode. EO3 has some of the best versions of the music IMO, and has the most unique artwork. The dungeons felt a bit bland at times, but the challenge level felt perfect. By this game, they had also figured out how to make some of the more intricate and convenient portions of the game style work. If you're looking to get into the series, but don't want to be scared off by difficulty, this is the place to start in my opinion.
    EO4- Story is garbage but I loved the overworld exploration. That is NOT a popular opinion and hasn't been seen in any other EO game. The music is incredible, easily on par with EO3. The dungeons felt a bit short and uninspired comepared to the predecessors, but this is a fun game nonetheless. I just wouldn't recommend to make it your first.
    EO5- My personal favorite in the series tied with EOU1. The skill trees were the msot fun and I felt like some of the takes on classes and such were very original, where I hadn't even thought of some of these mechanics in RPGs before. I never realized how much I liked certain bizarre abilities and skills until I had them ingrained into my system. Although the music overall is good, it has the single best version of "Through the Raging Winds" the series has. Search that up.
    EOU1- I know the original commenter and the maker of this video didn't like the story, but I did. It felt a LOT like Utawarerumono, which is my favorite visual novel of all time. The characters are charming, the banter is clever, and the dungeons are updated versions of the original, which I really liked despite the "flatness". The challenge is real, but not as hard as EO2.
    EOU2- No animated cutscenes, which I really missed, but literally everything else is just better than EOU1, minus the story. Dungeons, music, artwork, classes, all better. The story is okay, nothing to write home about.
    PersonaQ- I personally loved this game being a huge Persona 3 and 4 fan. Worth playing, absolutely. I'd put it on par with EOU1 in terms of everything except story, which is more like EOU2 (a little less good).

Might’ve just been me having a bad team somehow, but enemies would constantly be able to take out party members in only 2 or 3 hits and wasn’t very fun trying to fight like that. I assume it was to make up for the piss-easy exploration, but all that’s done for me is just make a boring experience with the most volatile random encounters I’ve ever seen

      It's really hard to say which EO game is the hardest because every game in the series has ways to trivialize it. EO1 has immunize (which when boosted reduces all damage your party takes for multiple turns to only 40% of what it would normally be), EO2 has the Hexer where pretty much everything on it is absolutely amazing, EO3 has Berserker's Vow, Charge, and basically let's you have a sixth party member, I'm not very familiar with EO4, but considering people think of it as the easiest it's safe to say it's not really in the running here, then everything after that has been designed with intentional high damage set ups that can really break the game if you go through the effort of planning them out and making them.
      Given that, the hardest one would probably be the game that you could most easily make a bad party (without repeating classes or ignoring line suggestions), and that goes to EO2. If your party is something like Landsknect, Beast, Survivalist, Alchemist, Medic maybe having a Troubadour instead of one of those you're going to have a really rough time, but even then that's a pretty specific party comp, it's not like those classes have no merit to them, and it may still be possible to beat the main game with it at the very least.

    The series has actually been a bit of a slow burn for me to get into. I was well aware of the series when 4 came out but never got the game until this year actually (on sale on the eShop here along with both Untolds), and before then I was brought awareness to Untold 1 after hearing the the town nighttime theme from a Spongebob YTP.
    I've only played most of 4 and a bit of Untold 1 Story mode and so far while I prefer the more general playstyle with 4, I will give credit that Untold 1 still enjoyable for what it is even if its story mode is half baked in dialogue and having not much for class choice. I'm actually kind of excited to eventually get around to 5 and Nexus after I'm done with 4, U1 and U2 mainly for how flexible it seems class options can be in those games.
    Also tried looking for the DS games but the only one I can find for a reasonable price was 1... The retro game community really has gone bonkers with they inflated the second hand market. Well either way I'll find some way around to get the DS games.

    I've played EOUntold and EO4. I finished Untold's story mode and I enjoyed it. The party felt well balanced and figuring out the mechanics felt challenging but rewarding. I never did the extra dungeon, and after hearing about the extra bosses in the other Games, I never will. I don't enjoy beating my face against a boss fight for hours trying to memorize it's mechanics and his to respond to every little thing.
    I played E04 and had a drastically worse time. I started out with a bad party without realizing it, so within the first labyrinth I had to start new characters and painfully grind them up to the same level as my old party, and I can't fucking stand level grinding. Then when I had my party in slightly better order I made it into labyrinth 2? I was about to leave the dungeon because I had gotten through a big chunk of it. I saw an NPC on the tile I was in, and since the game devs seem to think you shouldn't be able to see people in the fucking world I decided to check them before I left.
    It was a fucking trap. I got locked into an inescapable battle. The FOEs in this labyrinth move toward you while you're in combat, and I'm unable to kill the enemies before one of them enters the battle. These FOEs are way too strong for me to have even a sliver of a chance to beat them, and because of that bullshit trap the fight is inescapable, so the game holds me down and slowly kills me as a total of 4 of these fuckers enter the fight and destroy me.
    I lost multiple hours of progress and haven't touched that fucking game since.

    I'm usually the only one in my game store in town that orders a copy of these games, they went from stocking a single extra copy to only getting the one I preorder. Its kind of sad.
    I've played IV and U1 twice, and U2 and V once. Out of them V is my favorite, I've beaten the superboss on expert in IV and V, but U1 and U2's superbosses just feel too ridiculous to beat without some serious RNG.
    I love that there is something at every level for these games, you can enjoy them just playing a couple of stratums all the way up to doing everything the game has to offer.
    I just wish I could get more of my friends to play them...…….
    Btw, the only thing worse than infinintely respawning depth dancers, is that they're the best xp in the game, so you'll be farming and digging for shinies for a looooooong time. I'm so sick of fighting these things.

      Yeah, seeing the series grow and change is really interesting. I've got this theory that some of the concepts in that series go back to an entirely different series. There was this series called Growlanser with a very similar skill system to Etrian Odyssey and, surprise, Atlus localized the later games of that series before incorporating the company. Those guys made the Devil Survivor remakes, and you can see a lot of their fingerprints on Atlus games between the mid-2000's to now (mostly in the EO series). It's fun seeing how deep some roots can go.

    I've played the demos for Untold 1 and 2 (Granted, this was a few years ago), and I honestly kinda like U2. I personally don't mind having pre-defined characters, so that's not a deal breaker for me. From what I've heard, it's story mode is a lot better than U1, so I kinda wanna try that one first, and if I like the gameplay and mapping mechanic throughout the whole game, I might pick up EO5 (If I gotta make my own characters, give me a lot of options to make them stand out as their own characters rather than just a cardboard cutout), or even EO3 (I like the idea of it not being Yggdrasil for once (Seriously, from what I've seen, it's like, the only one that doesn't take place in Yggdrasil (Could be mistaken tho). Lol)).

    Being honest, I played the first three games on my DS, the first one was... Well... Kinda boring, flat and just too punishing to enjoy, anyway I beated the game and his post Game, very funny the super bosses, my favorite moments are when my team is complete, with Max level and the most broken jobs. The second game on the other hand, is better in almost everyway, more classes, better balanced, less punishing and more enjoyable. And with the third game... It's one of my favorites games in the DS , great style, a even better music than the other 2 games, subclasses, a story that actually exist and is more than a excuse to play, *Navigation*, more tools to make your map and, of course, a very difficult experience.

    I never really knew about this series until I googled games that had character customization similar to the mechanics of fallout 1&2 and heard of this series. so I emulated the first three games and I will say three is the best of the bunch. However, I have realized that I have played a game in the series via Persona Q, and now playing an actual game in the series I believe Persona Q (also one of my first Persona) was overrated and is probably not as well designed as some of the original Etrian Odyssey games. As you said about the untold games, it is probably from having a fixed party and many of the FOE are probably not well placed in some areas which can force the player into a corner. Sad that this game is talked about more then the actual series ( and that is coming from a Persona/SMT fan) and hopefully Atlas will publish a remake of 3 on the switch one day.

      Update: Recently I have play the demo of EOU2 and I have enjoyed playing it, I just wanted to get the actual game so I did from the e shop, and I can say that it has made me appreciate some some decisions they made in the game. For example the Alcamist had to use about 2 skill points just to learn one ability, now they rebalance it for you to learn all 3 with one point. I know you said to avoid the story, but I tried to make up with playing on expert difficulty which actually made it fun to be as resourceful as you can in battle. Well I did went to standard some time ago, I may go back to expert on occasion or maybe during a run in classic. I actually like the characters so far so I am interested in where it goes, and of course the music is amazing. Will be looking forward to the other ones. But I got to balance playing the game while doing college work of course.
      You video is good, but man, I am at the same point at stratum 2, but I am actually suprised that I liked EOU2 even after watching your video, but I guess each to their own.
