I really enjoyed your video, Martin and, despite doing this for a little while now, found some useful information. I liked having a look at some of your gear, too. Thanks. All the best.
I wrap them a micro fiber cloth and place in the travel bag in a U shape being careful not to bend or kink them. Besides the 361 I carry a latigo and a slick Buffalo hide. At home an English bridle and a Kanayama 80000. Both top quality.
Although my enthusiasm for making and uploading videos has significantly diminished, I’m uploading a new video with new razor even now, over night. Always enjoy you productions.
stropping vs honing vs grinding vs "putting an edge on it" how would you define/distinguish between these 4 things? when would each be appropriate? (nice idea for a video, maybe?)
Sorry for my delay 😅 I'm a bit slow 🐌 grinding can be seen as the precursor to all blades , from wedge to full hollow , also for trimming a damaged blade . Honing refers to less aggressive metal removal, and is needed when an edge fails to respond to stropping, usually because of damage or overuse when the edge becomes too convex . Finally when the edge has been set on its final bevel it still won't shave till its been properly stropped , this straightens the microscopic final edge ' teeth' ....very few razors can shave straight from the hone stones . The stropping polishes rather than sharpens, and straightens your final edge. Also, it's very therapeutic 😌.
Strops ,and where to get them are still a dark art , to me the best is high polished Japanese cordovan ( selected pony leather ) other people like bull hides , but keep your eyes open for the best Kanayama strops ,sadly out of production , ebay sometimes has good deals , but they are expensive now. Don't buy a collectable top strop unless your used to using one , one good cut and its ruined . Obviously lesser strops cost far less , practice on them for only around £20 to £30 .

I carry an IL 361 in the truck. Actually I carry 3 different strops in the tk.
