I am a huge fan of stropping since I carved wood prior to cooking and it is really nice to find someone who not only knows the value and is sharing the knowledge of stropping, but has also gone through such great lengths to create the "perfect strop". Absolutely love your videos!
This is really cool! Got one of your Patreon strops as my first strop ever. The finish is really nice, and it improved the edge a lot. One problem is, I'll be wanting another one or two... From the quality of the strops, I am extremely excited about the idea that you *might* be designing a knife line one day. My expectations are high!
Really find all your videos educational and you have helped me loads with my sharpening. Have a suggestion. Ever thouht of sticking a piece of non slip matting to the underside of the strop so it can easily be used on a kitchen surface. It looks like that might be especially useful for the carbon fibre version as it looks "slippy". I would be grateful if you would consider me for a strop givaway.
If you have any strops left, I'd happy to pay for shipping to the UK and for your time! I followed your tutorials to sharpen my Tojiro DP knives for the first time ever earlier today. I was so nervous I'd mess it all up, but thanks to your tutorial vids, not only did they all come out great, one was sharp enough that I was able to shave some hair with it lol! Thank you so much! I'm genuinely chuffed! Now I just need a good strop to act as the final piece of the sharpening puzzle!
I just received one of your double sided buffalo strops with the carbon fiber base and it looks amazing! I work as a professional chef and many of the knives I own I bought after watching your knife review videos. This strop will get a lot of use, I can't wait to get stropping! I would love to get a another strop to keep at my restaurant if you have any more to give away, happy to pay for shipping! Love your channel, thanks!
I would love a strop as well if I'm not to late! That carbon fiber is beautiful! Love your sharpening videos, I have learned alot about sharpening on wetstones so thank you and God bless!
Would absolutely love a strop, taking care of a blade and keeping it in top shape has become quite the hobby of mine. I enjoy your channel and check out all of your new videos, grabbing a strop is definitely something I’ve wanted and needed to do since I came across it on one of your previous videos. Take care!
Yes please on the strops! It’s amazing how passionate you are about all this stuff! Makes learning a dull subject (let’s be honest knife sharpening isn’t particularly glamorous) much easier to digest 👍🏼
I would love one of your strops, Ryky. Also you mentioned you would give us an update on the longevity of the 3M lapping films. How have they been holding up?
Gerhard Retief Diamond stone and strop using diamond paste. Or don't bother buying one. Really don't need one when you can get extremely good steels in knives these days.
It's always great starting a day with one of your videos to wake up :) Those thick carbon fiber plates look absolutely gorgeous, I guess you made the right choice. On a side note, I would definitely like to help you getting rid of the older versions of your strops 0:)
I would love a strop and I would pay for shipping to Oregon.Thank you for all the great videos and all the helpful guidance.I just ordered a carbon fiber strop for personal use but would love a strop for my job as a chef, chief cook and bottle washer.
I would love one of the strops, I've been saving up so that I can start investing in some good quality knives (which I can now pick confidently thanks to your reviews), but I've been hesitating because I haven't been 100% confident in how I'm going to care for them. With one of your strops, I'd feel a whole lot more confident keeping my equipment taken care of.
I'm still trying to get into sharpening knives. I only currently own some cheap whetstones but am trying to save for either some cerax or splash and go stones. I'd love to have a strop to further my experience.
Polycarbonate is pretty strong too, and might be cheaper than carbon fiber. Acrylic is even cheaper than poly but weaker. Both materials resists fall breakage better than glass.
Keep in mind if you guys don't get a free one he has them at affordable prices on etsy and they are great quality and are awesome. I have 2! The rolled buffalo is super tough and firm and the latigo is almost as firm as well. Great strops
I would love a strop of any kind from you. It would pair great with my new Enso 5.5" which came yesterday! I'm new to sharpening and especially stropping so this is GREAT!
So far the only thing missing from my kit is a strop. I've managed to fix up most of my knife needs with the kit I have now. Haven't gotten one of out of sheer laziness. Definitely interested in one though.
Yes, I’d love a good strop! I’ve been using green compound on cardboard for the past three years as I’ve invested more of my time and money towards good stones and good technique.
Hi Ricky, thanks for the video, it's very neat. I'm trying to make a few DIY strops myself. Could you please advise what type of adhesive you use to attach the leather to the base? And did you use different ones for different base (i.e. glass vs. carbon fiber)? Would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you!
this is the tape i use amzn.to/2KffNaD. i normally just do entire batches either in glass or carbon fiber. right now, just made batch with acrylic glass which is super flat, and stiff, and $20 less than carbon fiber
Hey Ricky, I saw your 3M lapping paper video, and I thought of glass straight away as the choice for the base..not alloy.. Are you finding the 3M lapping paper a good way to sharpen knives..???.. enjoying your videos, good information... thanks
Recently I've purchased a V10 Sujuhiki and a SG2 chef knife for my sushi chef apprentice job. The leather strop would be great! I live in colorado, USA.
I've never used a strop before, so if you could send one, I'd be very happy to see how much of a difference it makes. And yeah now adays carbon fiber is replacing almost every steel, wood and glass, great choice👍
Love your vids. Very helpful and a great learning experience. Would love a strop. I currently use just a strop as I am still learning to use stones properly. I use a strop on a kitchen knife I made almost a year ago. And it is still razor sharp.
So you'll no longer be offering the wood base strop as an option? I've ordered one from you, and I can say it has performed wonderfully. I'm curious about these new strops though, I don't need a new one but they look pretty slick, and with a thinner profile. I take my strop to work with me, so it would mean more room in my bag.
I have a 2 sided shell Cordovan. And a 1 side Shell Cordovan , a rolled Buffalo hide and a 2 side Latigo cowhide strops and they are all great. If you want to send me another one that I can load with compound I d put it to good use.
what about acrylic? sturdy, flat, doesnt break like glass. looks cool because its see-through so you can see the horween stamp (its a thing). its cheaper than carbon fibre.
Brian C fun fact acrylic will warp and also soaks in water. It's why fish tanks don't use acrylic for lids and when you get a new acrylic fish tank it gets heavier after filling it and emptying it. You could use polycarbonate because it doesn't warp but it will yellow over time.
interesting. i used to have a 250 gallon acrylic fish tank that also had most of the top covered with acrylic as well. i never noticed it warping but maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. I did like how clear it was compared to glass. i like the glass strops he made.
I'm a bit late to the party, but if you have any strops left, I'm certain I would give it a good home, here in Northern California. I'm working with fairly basic cutlery at the moment, but I am eager to develop my sharpening game so when I land a higher carbon knife, it won't suffer from lack of maintenance. I'm also hoping to get into maintenance and edge repair for friends, family, and at work. Thanks for your consideration!
OH YES PLEASE.. :D I would absolutely love to get a hold of one of your strops...and since it would be my first strop ever, I would not at all mind it being a 2’nd hand one... PS: Keep up the great work on the channel.
I would love a strop. The ones you make are really one of a kind. One question. If i would buy the microfilm would I get my knife any sharper with a strop
@burrfection a carbon fiber strop block would he amazing. Did you consider G10 or micarta as solutions? I know you can even get Corian in thinner thicknesses.
I was just planning on making my own tempered glass strop (sadly, shipping to my end of the world makes yours prohibitively expensive for me). And now you tempt me with carbon fibre :D
Would love one of your strops Ryky! I was actually considering purchasing one a few weeks ago, had a look the other night and they were not in your Etsy store! Do the carbon fiber ones in your store come pre loaded?
If you don't want your wood to warp, you need to use quarter-sawn (vertical grain) wood with a tight grain pattern. Also, red oak will absorb a lot of water quickly. White oak is much better. Seal the end grain of the wood with shellac or bees wax.
That's friggin awesome man. Congrats on the carbon fiber choice and it does look way better than the glass or the wood. I am curious though how much lighter is it compared to the others?
As an aeronautical engineer with a PhD in carbon fibre. I can assure you they are NOT indestructible and certainly would not take kindly to a hammer!!!! Wife, really not happy, but Enso Utility and hopefully Masamoto KS Yaganiba are next. Would like a Deba for some heavy duty work. Wish me luck!
I could really use one, recently bought a j.a henkels international set but probably gonna end up returning it since it stainless and not the high Carbon i was expecting. I start watching you video to learn more about knife and it not worth the 900$ (was on sales at 239.99)... lots of homework to do this weekend to set up my mind to which set I'll buy and which Stone I'll need to start my Kit without ripping my wallet ...
caboose70… amongst knife people, most would say that buying a set of knives is a waste of money. In a set, you are paying for several knives you don't need. Instead, the typical suggestion is buying individual knives to make your own "set" (typically a chef/gyuto knife, a paring knife, and a serrated/bread knife). If you take a look at Ryky's end of year knife review (th-cam.com/video/UstKyYTsjvE/w-d-xo.html), you'll get some great ideas. Keep in mind you don't need pricey paring or serrated knives. Also, save some money for a stone or two to keep everything sharp!
Edit: I just saw you sell the CF 12x3 base by itself. If I can’t have a 18x5 carbon fiber base made I’ll just buy yours. Also, thanks for any help with this! Where did you acquire the tempered glass plates or even the carbon fiber plates? I’d prefer the carbon fiber but my guess that’s harder to come across. Hi Kyky, txy for all the information that you show us in your channel.
On the other hand, I would love one of the original 9x3 strops :)
I have one of your equine strops but I could always use another one. I am glad to pay shipping. I love the strop I bought from your store.
I would love a strop as well if I'm not to late! That carbon fiber is beautiful! Love your sharpening videos, I have learned alot about sharpening on wetstones so thank you and God bless!
great videos , very informative....new to strops.... would like to experiment with one of yours.
Would absolutely love a strop, taking care of a blade and keeping it in top shape has become quite the hobby of mine. I enjoy your channel and check out all of your new videos, grabbing a strop is definitely something I’ve wanted and needed to do since I came across it on one of your previous videos. Take care!
cf is like the ultimate evolution on these dudes. very nice sir. i dont think there is a more elegant and functional solution on the market.
What the heck?!
Carbon fiber! Whoa
I would love a strop.
Thanks for the informative videos and your generosity.
From DIY to Lamborghini, what a time to be alive! I'd like a strop, never had one! But great video as always ryky cheers!
Yes please on the strops! It’s amazing how passionate you are about all this stuff! Makes learning a dull subject (let’s be honest knife sharpening isn’t particularly glamorous) much easier to digest 👍🏼
Your srops look great. I'm just getting into sharpening and would love a strop. Thanks for your videos!
I would love one of your strops, Ryky.

I have been sharpening my knives since I found your channel! I'd love a strop to take my sharpening to the next level!
Yes, I would really like a new-used strop. Cheers!
So cool. I like the black with diagonals. Interesting to know the development process too and how accidents prompted you to arrive at carbon fiber
I'm still trying to get into sharpening knives. I only currently own some cheap whetstones but am trying to save for either some cerax or splash and go stones. I'd love to have a strop to further my experience.

I would also like a strop. 😃 Please put up a post when the new bases become available, thanks!
I would love a strop!
Thanks always for the great, informative videos.
Would absolutely love one but I'm in Australia! Hope you're willing to send one out down under!
Ricky I would love to have one of your strops. Great channel I follow your sharpening exploites.
Ever think of making smaller ones for guided systems?
So far the only thing missing from my kit is a strop. I've managed to fix up most of my knife needs with the kit I have now. Haven't gotten one of out of sheer laziness. Definitely interested in one though.

Better get a patient on it brother love your chanel ive learned so much watching your videos thank u
have you done any videos on Yoshihiro knives? i would like to know what you think about them!
I've never used a strop before, so if you could send one, I'd be very happy to see how much of a difference it makes. And yeah now adays carbon fiber is replacing almost every steel, wood and glass, great choice👍

I’m a woodworker and I use strops for my plane irons. Would love one for the kitchen. Thank
Would love one! New to sharpening!
I have a 2 sided shell Cordovan. And a 1 side Shell Cordovan , a rolled Buffalo hide and a 2 side Latigo cowhide strops and they are all great. If you want to send me another one that I can load with compound I d put it to good use.
I would love a strop I’m actually going to make one today but I’d love to test my work with yours and see what a pro can accomplish
I would for sure love a strop, I am just getting into sharpening and a high-quality one like that would be greattttt. I have been using an old belt!
Would love a strop!! Australia is not very far to send to either ;)
what about acrylic? sturdy, flat, doesnt break like glass. looks cool because its see-through so you can see the horween stamp (its a thing). its cheaper than carbon fibre.

I'm wondering if you could use the bare carbon plate to sharpen/strop knifes with.
Awsome idea with the carbon fiber strops. I would definitely dig one of your old leather strops to burrfection my edges aswell. :)
I would love to get one of your strops! Keep up the good work!
So Ricky the boss, Can u find time to do a video using the carbon fiber strop. I want to order one n want to c how you use it.
Awesome! I'd love one. Of course I will pay shipping to Norway 🙂
I'd love a strop! Will also be buying one with Carbon Fiber soon.
i am guessing shipping to Australia is a bit hard
A strop would be cool. Just a question. Why only kitchen knives? Why no natural stones?
OH YES PLEASE.. :D
I would absolutely love to get a hold of one of your strops...and since it would be my first strop ever, I would not at all mind it being a 2’nd hand one...
PS: Keep up the great work on the channel.
Have you evaluated aluminium as a base material? I wonder how it compares.
👍awesome! I have one of your strops already, the rolled buffalo on the oak base, and I love it! A giveaway would be great!!
I'd love one but with shipping being $40 to Australia, I don't think that's possible. Great product Ryky, this inspires me to one day make my own!
I would love a strop. The ones you make are really one of a kind. One question. If i would buy the microfilm would I get my knife any sharper with a strop
Could you link the links you spoke about? The one about the 3M microfilm
first demo units available kit.com/Burrfection/burrfection-gear-strops
Burrfection I was actually curious about learning more about the 3M film
MFeinstein m
excited to see how the carbon fiber works out. started daily stropping recently and it is very much a time saver. let me know about that giveaway!
Omg, I would love one of your old strops!
Good day Ryky, I could sure use a 10 x 3 homemade strops since I only have a belt (old). All the best SoulDave
If any left Thanks
Love the videos and love those strops. Keep those videos coming.
I would love a new quality strop
How can I get one of your stops? They seem pretty good and in my country it's really hard to find a good strop which hasn't tripled its price. Thanks.
I would love a strop. I've been using an old leather belt. Seems to work, bit would love to know what a real strop would do.
Been wanting to try out a strop!
@burrfection a carbon fiber strop block would he amazing. Did you consider G10 or micarta as solutions? I know you can even get Corian in thinner thicknesses.
I would love one of the original 9x3 strops
I was just planning on making my own tempered glass strop (sadly, shipping to my end of the world makes yours prohibitively expensive for me). And now you tempt me with carbon fibre :D
Beginning to get into knives and started watching your videos since the near end of 2017. Would love a hand out strop to try for a beginner!
Would love one of your strops Ryky! I was actually considering purchasing one a few weeks ago, had a look the other night and they were not in your Etsy store!
Do the carbon fiber ones in your store come pre loaded?
How do you sharpen a ceramic knife. I bought a lansky sharpening set but it doesn’t work on ceramic. Love your videos.
Check out the Lee Valley diamond lapping films if you haven't, they go down to .1 micron. Great price too.
Would love a strop for my new Enso Prep!
I would love to own one of your handmade strops!!
I've been using my leather belt to strop. Works pretty well.
If you don't want your wood to warp, you need to use quarter-sawn (vertical grain) wood with a tight grain pattern. Also, red oak will absorb a lot of water quickly. White oak is much better. Seal the end grain of the wood with shellac or bees wax.
A nice strop would be nice! I pretty new to the knife world and currently doing my bi-daily stropping on an old leather belt lol
Your straps look very nice. And I would love to have one. Thank you keep up the good work.
A free strop? Say no more. You ain’t gotta twist my arm to accept a free strop.
The benefit to using carbon fibre in this case is weight and rigidity. Otherwise it may as well just be a solid block of resin. Carbon fibre IS short for CFRP. Carbon fibre reinforced plastic. Of which this reinforcement is utterly pointless since there is very little structural benefit. Particularly as they are laminated, meaning they do damage subsurface, but the damage cannot be seen without ultrasound or MRI/XRAY scanning.
I wouldn't use one, everyone thinks that it's like gods gift to humans, but to sharpen, polish or strop a knife, nope, I don't need plastic in my food
I didn't watch far enough to hear him day it's just a base for a strop, in saying that I could use a 20c brick for a base
I would absolutely love one of your strops.
Yes please! Sign me up to all of your giveaways! Haha.
Seriously, via your channel, I’ve purchased the Dragon Nakiri and the Dragon Fire Gyuto. I blame you for my new obsession.

Where did you acquire the tempered glass plates or even the carbon fiber plates? I’d prefer the carbon fiber but my guess that’s harder to come across. I’d like to take on the project of making my own strop because I’d like to challenge myself but I’d also like a strop wider and longer than what is currently available on your Etsy store.
A preloaded strop is really nice a surprise to see.
I don’t need another, but I can wish the rest of you folks good luck on the giveaway.
haha. have you used it yet?
Burrfection
That I have. It’s more aggressive than any strop I’ve tried before. The compound makes a world of difference.
I'd love a strop, good luck on your sales :)
I would like a strop. Have you thought about put your products on amazon?
i'm in for 20! great job buddy, as a car guy, these look really slick!
how do i get the carbon fiber ones because i use 3m lapping film to sharpen certain things?
Nice looking stops. I'm a chef and would love to own one to try out.
