LeeToTheVI hold on, you’re missing the point, it’s not about being “passionate about the content” it’s about WHAT type of content. Compare videos buzzfeed makes on mental health and social justice issues to Her making a Harry Potter movie review.
Sounds like they haven't changed their business practices towards creators but they have added a shitty question in response to all the why I left videos
It's good people like you exist because even when poor stragglers get sucked into these clickbait blackholes, they're still subjected to entirely too long videos of padded nonsense so the uploaded can get paid as much as possible. Oy.
^ so over dramatic, lmao. Watching 5 minutes is nothing. It’s actually interesting to see the stages she went through, since they acted as a great build up until the question came.
You probably wouldn't want to work there anyway. From the other people who have left and gave a reason why, it sounds like they own you and your content. They care too much about progressing their popularity than caring about their workers. You'll find a job that's better for you!
I love how you've edited this. I agree with you, when I've hired people in the past for digital companies one of my questions is always what type of content are you most passionate about and I would always hope they say short form entertainment or whatever it is we're making.
Guys if you're a Buzzfeed fan, the jokes aren't that serious. As I stated in the video, written in the description, and explained to a few people in the comments, this is not an expose nor is it a vendetta on Buzzfeed. It's me simply explaining the interview process with added humor. I Respond to Angry BuzzFeed Fan Comments Here: th-cam.com/video/ps9wr7UDPys/w-d-xo.html There are plenty "How I got my job at Buzzfeed" videos. This is a video about "What not to do" (in the in person interview). If you for some reason are you applying to be a video intern, take notes and good luck. Here is the video I turned in as my entry: th-cam.com/video/tD7X9ag8nZA/w-d-xo.html
If they didn’t hire you because you didn’t said you wanted to make buzzfeed videos forever is clearly becuz they just want you to say how muuuuuuch u love them & how u woooouuuld die to join them by kissing their ass just to get the job.
It is okay to be a feminist, just don't be a purple haired angry modernised version (the kind that leaves a stigma on those fighting for proper equality). Buzzfeed are usually far left which is usually worse than being far right. Antifa who think of themselves as 'far left' go around attacking the Far Right and smashing up historic statues. Buzzfeed is basically propaganda for the Far Left. Purple haired 'feminists' would also attack a woman, either physically or verbally, if they disagreed with them.
You're being dramatic, the experience you get from being paid to be creative and make content is priceless. Sure a lot of people are leaving BuzzFeed but the majority of them have been able to create incredibly successful YT channels with the knowledge they've gained. It's like YT with a professional safety net (Which owns your creativeity until you leave... but forget about that)
Interviews are so boring, it's like a psychological game to me. I always check the recruiter's body language and, according to that, I tell them what they want to hear. Simple as that. Of course I tell them the truth sometimes, in terms of knowledge and skills. But if you're looking for a job you've got to make them believe that you love their company and you want to work there forever! I hope to work in my dream company so that I won't have to lie during the interview 😅
Buzzfeed wants people who want to make buzzfeed videos, simple as that. The older you get you find that employers don’t care about your personal goals if it doesn’t fall in line with their business goals. If you want to make movies don’t go to buzzfeed. It’s like applying at Taco Bell when you want to make burgers.
Yeah, I've noticed a lot of jobs don't want you to want to work at another job, they want you to like the job you have. It's unfortunate that there are internships that expect their specific dedication to be matched in everybody when there are part time and full time jobs willing to hire people no matter their passion.
Well, that's a pretty normal reason to not hire somebody. If a worker is not satisfied with what they are doing, then they won't be happy with that job and automatically do it less good than someone that's dream job it is to do said thing. Though I am young and never applied for any job yet so maybe I don't know, but from a common sense standpoint it seems logical.
It’s hard to get your dream job early on(less than 30 y/o). Most jobs you’re gonna get in life are jobs that pay the bills or jobs that provide more experience in order for you to get that “dream job”. Most people now a days do not work in the same place forever. So I think it’s pretty lame that she got rejected from buzzfeed just because of that one answer. She won’t work at buzzfeed forever, she just needs experience so that maybe she can move on later in her life and make movies, if she still wants to. Just because something isn’t your dream job doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy it either. The first job you get isn’t usually your dream job anyways. If your first job is at McDonald’s, should they fire/not hire you because it isn’t your dream job? Hell no! They should fire/not hire you if you’re not doing what you’re supposed to be doing or you’re lacking something.
actually is not a reason to hire somebody if a person wants to for sample make movies a job a place like BuzzFeed that makes video content is he reasonable step and it's sad that BuzzFeed wants to keep people trapped in a box. BuzzFeed don't pay their employees very much but literally they make crap they have real horrible standard on their employees and their employees is don't want to stay which is why so many of them are leaving.
I don't think so. She was saying that movies were a long term goal. Buzz feed wanted her to say she wants to make videos for them FOREVER. For a company to not expect someone to eventually move on is ridiculous.
Yup and at the same time that your supposed to be boasting about yourself in an interview and making you seem like the best of the best your also supposed to be propping up the company your interviewing at to make them seem like they are the best place ever to work for, job interview 101. When I owned a business if a potential candidate made it seem like we were going to be a between job en route to their dream job I didn't hire them, I'm not investing my money in someone who wasn't going to stick around when the job type I had going was what many people have as a dream job. I'd rather sink my time into training someone who knew less but actually WANTED to do the job I had. If you want to get into Hollywood movies then there is a chance buzzfeed is wasting time on you while your looking for other things to do in the movie world.
some of buzzfeed's videos are basically short movies at this point, and that kind of content gets a lot of views, her answer should have been more than acceptable. I'm kinda glad she was rejected though, buzzfeed treats interns like shit
obviously you have to say something that has to do with BuzzFeed in a BuzzFeed job application interview, so if they ask you what kind of content you want to create for the rest of your life has to be something that has to do with them not something to shows that they are just a stepping stone for you to eventually do movies. I know that maybe wasn't your intention but that's exactly what it comes off as. it's just the truth that in job interviews you have to say things that you know they will like and not be 100 percent truthful is just the way it is
Sarah I kinda agree. Questions like that come up in interviews and it's quite obvious you'd want to let the employer know you plan to stay with the company for a long time. But wtf it's not like she's gonna leave within 2 years and release the next Avatar movie. I'm still on her side for this one lmao
The best advice I ever got while interviewing for jobs in LA is that no company wants a candidate who views the position as a “stepping stone” to something else. They want to hear that you plan on staying with the company (even though you probably do want to move on eventually). If they hear that you view the position as a path to something bigger, they won’t hire you.
Interviewing is tough when it comes to large companies like that... thats what happened to me with the IFC channel. They asked me "what i wanted to do in film and television" and I said "I wanted to be a producer". What they really wanted me to say was I wanted to do marketing for television. Never be honest with an interviewer, tell them the bullshit they want to hear.
I don't think it was because of that. But recruiting managers and that kind of people know when you are not passionate about a job. If you don't like buzzfeed and buzzfeed style videos, it automatically you are not a good candidate. Especially compared to other people that live buzzfeed, have never missed a video, and dreams bout going there sincethe company's first steps. That's all. "I don't really like buzzfeed" "I find most buzzfeed videos are cringy but.. it's a job" this kind of thinking won't get you into any job honey. That's just my opinion. Just like college application, you can't fake anything. You're passionate about anything? Good? You are not? Don't even bother. Find something you like and the pursue it!
AuroraLalune I don’t think that’s what is being said - I think what was meant is that, when compared to people who are clearly passionate about buzzfeed, you won’t get the job. Of course people do jobs because “it’s a job”, but far less so in the entertainment industry where most people go into it knowing it’s cutthroat and underpaid and actually do it for the love of it. Equally, even if not in the entertainment industry, most people still have to fake enthusiasm about their jobs even if they’re just going into it for a paycheque.
@@ediecolley9642 Oh the irony. I doubt anyone who says that they are passionate about buzzfeed truly is passionate about it. Hell. Some poor souls that had any level or respect or liking of the company got that shot to hell by buzzfeed and it's complete and utter b.s.
AuroraLalune two things here: 1) I think it is absolutely plausible to be passionate about the style of buzzfeed type videos - short form videos, designed to be informative, amusing or in some way entertaining. Even if you absolutely loathe buzzfeed, I think you can still muster some form of passion for the medium 2) I genuinely don’t see what is so horrendous about Buzzfeed as a company. Obviously it isn’t perfect, and sometimes can be seen as stifling or profiting off individuals’ creativity, the same as LITERALLY ANY ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY, but by and large it is a company that gives a platform to people to create media, treats its workers decently well, and is a diverse and inclusive workplace (even if people think it’s biased against cis straight white men, that at the very least is a balance to the large majority of companies that lean the other way). I think it is totally plausible to be passionate about Buzzfeed.
I don't mean to sound negative but you keep cutting before you finish the last word in every sentence and it's distracting. Just a friendly critique :)
generally speaking when you go into a job interview and they're like "what are your future plans?" and you say "literally anything else" that's a sign that you see no longevity with the company and don't see any value being there.
That's because BuzzFeed didn't want you to have dreams. They want you to work for them, not work with them. That's why BuzzFeed employees aren't allowed to do side project that isn't BuzzFeed. They just want to suck creativity out of their employees and make it as their own. People who's leaving BuzzFeed, create better content now as independent TH-cam creator because they finally can do what they want, not what BuzzFeed want.
With all of the questions being asked, I think it's safe to say that Buzzfeed wanted a cult follower to become their content slave. It's easier to make someone a slave of their work by finding a die hard fan that would do anything.
That’s so fn stupid it’s like if someone asks “Who is your favorite person?” And you said “My Mom” And they said “WOW NOT ME OK I GUESS I WONT BE YOUR FRIEND”
If you flat out tell ANY company "I'm hoping to mooch experience then leave" then it won't sit well with the people hiring. Very naive for someone who studies psych.
My guess is that they took your response as making movies as your end goal thus you're intending on leaving BuzzFeed at some point and don't see it as a long-term goal??? Hence they thought you're not worth their time or something???
Uhm... I mean this is typical of any job. You don’t apply to be a teacher and tell them your goal is to be a scuba diver. You have to cater your answers to the company’s interest. You saying “movies” saved them a lot of time and money because you right away showed that you don’t actually care about buzzfeed. You would likely be a miserable new hire who quits within a year. So you both dodged a bullet, just doesn’t feel good to not get the job. But your subconscious mind didn’t want you to work for buzzfeed otherwise you wouldn’t have said “moviesl
BuzzFeed is an extremely biased left wing media. You are better off without BuzzFeed, even if you are a liberal. Perhaps use your TH-cam channel to express your individual self. If you are interested in news analysis, definitely look in all sides of the issue, liberal, conservative, etc.. before you can make judgment.
After this video, Buzzfeed is for sure done with you. The worse thing a rejected person can do is...this! Not only will Buzzfeed not hire you, but every other multimillion media company won't either. The kiss and tell reaction always leaves a bitter taste behind.
You're better off, if they can't respect your need to move up in your career, then they obviously have no intention of letting you get there on their path. In fact, I smell a fishy contract if such was their intention. But yeah, you're definitely better off.
true. From other "Why I left BuzzFeed" videos it looks like a lot of video producers have a "First look deal" which essentially means If you have a video idea for your own channel, you have to share it with BuzzFeed first. If they like it, they make you create that ideal on their channel. If they don't, you're free to upload it on yours.
It's legitimately funny to me how difficult the criteria for working an entry-level minimum wage job at buzzfeed is considering their employees put out some of the laziest content out there. I've seen multiple buzzfeed videos where it's literally just 2 or 3 employees filming themselves taking an online quiz. And multiple list articles on their site where they literally name-drop or mention the exact same product/event/celebrity incident in several different articles.
The Buzzfeed hiring process sounds excatly like the hiring process of becoming a flight attendant. When i became a flight attendant i had to do a phone, video, and face to face interview. It was a very long process. Its interesting to see that Buzzfeed does it similar.
This is soooooo interesting! I've been thinking of trying for an internship after I graduate so it's really nice to know their process and what they are/aren't looking for. Bummer that having the goal of filmmaking was a bad thing though :/
4:18 WOW, this is the 1st time I've heard someone had a similar experience! I interviewed at a jewelry store; the interviewer expressed he was pleased by my resume and conversational skills. When he started asking me more about my relationship experience & made it clear it was part of the interview, I happily explained I'm in a long-term relationship... everything changed. His smile disappeared, his expression grew distant, & he avoided looking up from his papers. I was still pretty young so I didn't understand why his whole demeanor changed so suddenly. I'm glad I didn't get the job though. He would've made a horrible boss.
You failed the "lie to me about how you'll stay with this company until you die" question. The people who are qualified otherwise who don't lie about this question will get rejected while those who do will get accepted. Every company asks this question. Just think about how fucked up that actually is.
Glad that you won't have to paint with your period blood

LeeToTheVI hold on, you’re missing the point, it’s not about being “passionate about the content” it’s about WHAT type of content. Compare videos buzzfeed makes on mental health and social justice issues to Her making a Harry Potter movie review.
Don't worry they will steal your content later
Sounds like they haven't changed their business practices towards creators but they have added a shitty question in response to all the why I left videos
Skip to 3:57 to find out the question.
Not all heroes wear capes
Zanks you
It's good people like you exist because even when poor stragglers get sucked into these clickbait blackholes, they're still subjected to entirely too long videos of padded nonsense so the uploaded can get paid as much as possible. Oy.
^ so over dramatic, lmao. Watching 5 minutes is nothing. It’s actually interesting to see the stages she went through, since they acted as a great build up until the question came.
I love you, thank you so much.
Such a complicated application process and yet their employees are trash
You probably wouldn't want to work there anyway. From the other people who have left and gave a reason why, it sounds like they own you and your content. They care too much about progressing their popularity than caring about their workers. You'll find a job that's better for you!
Not being hired by Buzzfeed is a compliment.
I love how you've edited this. I agree with you, when I've hired people in the past for digital companies one of my questions is always what type of content are you most passionate about and I would always hope they say short form entertainment or whatever it is we're making.
so you rather prefer liers. Nice :)
Lmao all she did mostly was cut the video.
No, I think Peter prefers people who want to make content inline with what the company does.
"You can not be a strai-"
That was so great 😂😂👏👏
Guys if you're a Buzzfeed fan, the jokes aren't that serious. As I stated in the video, written in the description, and explained to a few people in the comments, this is not an expose nor is it a vendetta on Buzzfeed. It's me simply explaining the interview process with added humor.
I Respond to Angry BuzzFeed Fan Comments Here: th-cam.com/video/ps9wr7UDPys/w-d-xo.html
There are plenty "How I got my job at Buzzfeed" videos. This is a video about "What not to do" (in the in person interview). If you for some reason are you applying to be a video intern, take notes and good luck. Here is the video I turned in as my entry: th-cam.com/video/tD7X9ag8nZA/w-d-xo.html
Ooo1
Keep your head up! The real reason you weren't hired was because you're not a purple haired, thick glasses wearing, androgenous lesbian, femminist.
If they didn’t hire you because you didn’t said you wanted to make buzzfeed videos forever is clearly becuz they just want you to say how muuuuuuch u love them & how u woooouuuld die to join them by kissing their ass just to get the job.
Psych IRL 755th like
It is okay to be a feminist, just don't be a purple haired angry modernised version (the kind that leaves a stigma on those fighting for proper equality).
As an HR student right now....having the recruiter tell you what mistakes you make is a potential legal case waiting to happen.
ewww. imagine striving to be on a plateau
It’s like applying at Taco Bell when you want to make burgers.
buzzfeed feels like a cult.
Rotbart1337 yup it is a cult.
Alice Collins oof
This is quite the interesting story.... and I know what you mean about watching "Why I left Buzzfeed" videos
I wanna make a "Why I left Buzzfeed" video too! lmao
So you can't aim to move higher in life. And all of this is for an intern position.... Just to make money off of your work.
I had family photo shoot there
In my opinion, you actually dodged a bullet...
Found you from the FB YT LA group :) I love that you made this video! I wish i would have made previous work stories
Thanks for stopping by!
Do it!!!!
iM GLAD I STUMBLED UPON THIS VIDEO, UR CONTENT IS AMAZING
_buzzfeed doesnt deserve this level of quality._
obviously you have to say something that has to do with BuzzFeed in a BuzzFeed job application interview, so if they ask you what kind of content you want to create for the rest of your life has to be something that has to do with them not something to shows that they are just a stepping stone for you to eventually do movies.
@@kite3278 Some companies want to hear answers like that tho so it's actually less simple.
Honestly you're WAY to smart to work at Buzzfeed! You definitely can do so much better :D
You can, *too!
Ikr
Interviewing is tough when it comes to large companies like that... thats what happened to me with the IFC channel. They asked me "what i wanted to do in film and television" and I said "I wanted to be a producer". What they really wanted me to say was I wanted to do marketing for television.
Never be honest with an interviewer, tell them the bullshit they want to hear.
This is my first video I watched that is on your channel (subbing) and I feel like you are literally too smart to work at buzzfeed.
Sotiris Maragos No of course you can fake it, she should just have answered right
I find it curious you think people don't do jobs because "it's a job"
AuroraLalune two things here:
1) I think it is absolutely plausible to be passionate about the style of buzzfeed type videos - short form videos, designed to be informative, amusing or in some way entertaining. Even if you absolutely loathe buzzfeed, I think you can still muster some form of passion for the medium
2) I genuinely don’t see what is so horrendous about Buzzfeed as a company.
I can't get the image of straight white guys being cool out of my head
I can only imagine which guys you're thinking of in my head.
Yeah guys when you go on an interview for a creative company....you NEED a portfolio.
I don't mean to sound negative but you keep cutting before you finish the last word in every sentence and it's distracting.
Just a friendly critique :)
It can be an acceptable technique when used sparingly.
@@steamedbuns6197 shut the fuck up
generally speaking when you go into a job interview and they're like "what are your future plans?" and you say "literally anything else" that's a sign that you see no longevity with the company and don't see any value being there.
3:40 who is the other person in the shot???
I love this style of story time!! It really keeps me paying attention when the scenes change!
Didn't know it was this much of a pain to get into BuzzFeed
Well I have a perfect buzzfeed article idea! 22 reasons why if Voldemort was a piece of cheese, your grandma would eat it
Isaac Skidmore you’d get hired and a promotion for that one
With all of the questions being asked, I think it's safe to say that Buzzfeed wanted a cult follower to become their content slave. It's easier to make someone a slave of their work by finding a die hard fan that would do anything.
Fascinating it woulbhave been so cool to see you on buzzfeed they totally made a mistake. So movies are a no go wamp wampp
All those steps and levels to end up making "would you rather" and "which character from...are you" quizzes
Glad you didn’t get in. You have too much talent to work there.
really loved how you filmed this in different locations. it made the video interesting. good job!
That’s so fn stupid it’s like if someone asks “Who is your favorite person?” And you said “My Mom” And they said “WOW NOT ME OK I GUESS I WONT BE YOUR FRIEND”
If you flat out tell ANY company
"I'm hoping to mooch experience then leave"
then it won't sit well with the people hiring.
Very naive for someone who studies psych.
That application process seems too dang long
My guess is that they took your response as making movies as your end goal thus you're intending on leaving BuzzFeed at some point and don't see it as a long-term goal??? Hence they thought you're not worth their time or something???
Klara xKat_K that's every company ever
IS IT A LITTLE WINDY
BuzzFeed is an extremely biased left wing media. You are better off without BuzzFeed, even if you are a liberal. Perhaps use your TH-cam channel to express your individual self. If you are interested in news analysis, definitely look in all sides of the issue, liberal, conservative, etc.. before you can make judgment.
Rohon Ray yeah their so biased
What kind of movies are you interested in making?
I really like how you film and edit your videos :)
Im glad that you're doing this instead of buzzfeed
really cool to hear some insights! Thank you! :)
“When i grow up, i want to work as a buzzfeed girl!!”
all that for an internship? damn.
a ton of companies ask really similar questions about your commitment and enthusiasm. most of the time people just lie
MEMES. Just say MEMES
iii best answer
It's legitimately funny to me how difficult the criteria for working an entry-level minimum wage job at buzzfeed is considering their employees put out some of the laziest content out there. I've seen multiple buzzfeed videos where it's literally just 2 or 3 employees filming themselves taking an online quiz. And multiple list articles on their site where they literally name-drop or mention the exact same product/event/celebrity incident in several different articles.
R u sure you applied for job in BuzzFeed bcz may be even NASA'S application process is not that complicated 🤔🤔
The Buzzfeed hiring process sounds excatly like the hiring process of becoming a flight attendant. When i became a flight attendant i had to do a phone, video, and face to face interview. It was a very long process. Its interesting to see that Buzzfeed does it similar.
The reason you weren't hired was that you think its a good idea to record a video next to a fucking water fountain
This is soooooo interesting! I've been thinking of trying for an internship after I graduate so it's really nice to know their process and what they are/aren't looking for. Bummer that having the goal of filmmaking was a bad thing though :/
At least she's more charismatic than any Buzzfeed employee ツ
ugh no you just like her politics more
Even if you don’t like the buzzfeed employees it’s hard to deny that they are pretty charismatic
Buzzfeed employers are as charismatic and entertaining as cockroach. It's always intresting to see them die.
Safiya is pretty charismatic, she's a former buzzfeed employee, I'm glad she left that buzzfeed
she drones in the same monotone as them.
she actually looks lesbian too. and she looks like some indistinguishable race.
woulda fit right in.
this just popped up in my recommended and i love you and i subbed.
the right answer was cats and yall know it
Harvard has less requirements than Buzzfeed
So glad you watch Gary Vee too
Linkard love his stuff!
I’m on a Donna-marathon 😂
Nora Tybjerg same!! She’s great!
After seeing her shane video same lol
You failed the "lie to me about how you'll stay with this company until you die" question. The people who are qualified otherwise who don't lie about this question will get rejected while those who do will get accepted. Every company asks this question. Just think about how fucked up that actually is.
