    Nice kit! For the clamp on matte box option, can't you just get a lens bracket/support to take the stress off of the camera's lens mount? Either way, still nice. I use a swing away but I'm going to be investing in the polar pro basecamp matte box. Looking forward to it, especially for when I need a matte box on my Came TV stabilizer.

    • @JustinPhillip
      @JustinPhillip  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaron Smith Clamp ons are very popular, but i have heard of them adding stress to the lenses. Especially in my case, dealing with vintage lenses, i just prefer not to take any chances, plus i dont have the extra money to have them serviced all the time 🙌🏼

    • @Aaron_Smith_OM
      @Aaron_Smith_OM 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustinPhillip Ohhh, yeah. I forgot. The lenses I have don't have external moving/telescoping parts (like when you pull focus on zoom). Clamp ons shouldn't be used with telescoping parts. I noticed that with the Tilta mini matte box I had. With my vintage lenses (Mir, Jupiter, and Helios) the focus would grind a little bit because of the weight from the matte box. But on my Sigma Arts, it was totally fine because no telescoping parts. And I had a lens support from smallrig.

    Hey Justin awesome vid as always. Curious to know if you find the ready rig you're using and how you have it set up - if it limits how high you can have the camera? I noticed you don't seem to hold the camera above your shoulders. I imagine an easyrig set up would allow the camera to go higher if needed....thanks in advance!

    Quick question. In the short shot of your gimbal set up right after you’re talking about your second matte box in the top of your matte box case.
    Your gimbal was sitting on a cart but it looks like you had some kind of rig for a larger battery at the bottom of the gimbal?
    Was that so? And if so what is that? I’m looking for a way to power my gimbal my follow focus and the black magic all while on a gimbal.

    Hi Justin! Have you heard about "ground loop" thing that might fry BMPCC's HDMI port?
    It's like when you're powering an external monitor and the camera off the same power source, it might end up frying the HDMI port and it will no longer work. And now I am afraid to power my BMPCC4K and monitor at the same time from the same power source(V mount battery)...
    It'd be great if you go over this topic on future episode and hopefully come up with some solutions since I couldn't safe way to power BMPCC4K and monitor from the same power source. Thank you as always!!

    • @JustinPhillip
      @JustinPhillip  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People have asked me about this in the past, i think you just need a good reliable V mount battery and i've never had any issues with anything like that, and i've used a LOT of different monitors with my rig, on very long shoot days

    Wow That's really a great video. I learned a lot!! So it is really SAFE to power supply bmpcc and monitor in one same battery? and really SAFE to leave a lp-e6 in camera when you using a V mount battery? These two things did scare me out after seeing people said hdmi broken because of one battery rig.

    Hello Justin! Thanks for your videos. Watched already about 20 of them. Great content.
    I have a question: I want to buy a monitor and I'm between Atomos Shinobi, Portkeys BM5 and BMVA 12G. My camera is the BMPCC6K and I probably need no recording. I see in your videos that you sometimes use the Portkeys and sometimes use the BMVA 12G. So what's your favorite?

    • @JustinPhillip
      @JustinPhillip  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer the Video Assist. The HDR color rendering is much more accurate. Plus, i have it set up to when i hit record on the P4K, the Video Assist automatically records to SD, and that way i’m simultaneously recording Proxy files. Also the false color matches to the P4K because it’s also made by Blackmagic Design and the scopes are much more accurate overall. The BM5 is a nice little monitor, but not quite on the same level as BMVA.

    • @JustinPhillip
      @JustinPhillip  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rmspunk the way the battery is now it helps stabilize the camera the best, the v mount kinda serves as an excellent chest rest. So i just wedge the v mount pretty much against my chest or jammed into my arm pit.

      Ben C If you’re in HFR mode (over crank), it will transmit to BM5, portkeys. But, if youre trying to record in anything higher than 30fps, not high frame rate mode, i.e. true 60fps or tru 75fps, it will not transmit to the portkeys.

      The V mount just hanging from the bottom rails is not a configuration i prefer. It displaces the weight wrong, tends to get in the way, and it makes for an awkward setup. I would rather have the build streamlined, keep it all one shape
