Hey, need a quick assessment here:
i used to shoot all my projects with the a6500 with XAVC S, 1080p (from where im from this codec / format works just fine)
As an upgrade, im moving to BMPCC 4k. For projects meant for web delivery and small physical displays, would you say ProRes LT or 422 would be right? (as an upgrade from the previous setup and formats)
is there a setting I have overlooked? When I see other videos with the tap/screen to focus it reacts instantly I have to hold the finger on the screen for about 3 sec. then it focuses - If I just tap nothing... its not a lens issue its exactly the same with Panasonic...12-35, 25 and 14 mm - Im on the latest firmware (with BRAW) anny suggestions. thx

apart from the price (which is pretty good in comparison to everything else released recently i have in mind) there are a few things holding me back from buying this.
i don't mind 4k thid much and I was hoping for being able to shoot in 1080p without the insane crop.
i know you can record in 4k and later change it to 1080p but that isn't very effective.
also I am still hoping for the new black magic raw to be released.
(they didn't even release it for the 4.6k ursa) this camera is basically a ursa mini 4k so it shouldn't be impossible, just a wait.
also normal raw is annoying for not having thumbnails. i hope they will improve that.
i still want to know what the Bluetooth is capable of.
using a Bluetooth device as a wireless monitor would be nice, but I can't imagine this being reliable or possible in high resolution.
i am a run and gun lowbudget person so needing less sd cards would be a double bonus (shooting in 1080p, smaller Blackmagic raw) you can have a nice setup with this.

0.3 for usb c card
you can have a professional set up for less than or around 2 000 $.
i paid around 600€
for a mostly used but nice learners setup (bmpcc +stuff) and I would really like to upgrade at some point.

How correctly can i set up a white balance?
im using a metabones speedbooster, and having very hard time seeing the focus peaking, almost not there at all, only can barely see the green tint. have you experience this? maybe mine has a problem. im used to the focus peaking on the gh5 and atomos recorders.
Hmm that sounds weird. We haven't had any issue when we've shot with ours. If our BMPCC4K is in the office I will have a look. What lens are you using on the MB? Jake
Focus peaking can nearly disappear when using soft, low contrast lenses, like Jupiter 9 - especially wide open.
Great video .. Where can I find the HD 120 fps?
Make sure you're in some flavour of DNG, in 1080p and that off speed frame rate is enabled and you should be able to select it.
you never went over the exterior buttons. i'm scouring the internet for a video on the external buttons. i have no idea what the top button on the back is for.

Are you sure you can only shoot 120 fps at 1080p in raw? Surely you can shoot that resolution and frame-rate in ProRes too?
You can only shoot 120fps in RAW. The highest frame rate in ProRes is 60.

When you are shooting in RAW & switching between different resolutions you are effectively using less of the sensor, so when you are shooting DCI 4K you are using the full width of the sensor so the crop when compared to a full frame 17:9 image is 1.89, you also have a UHD mode which has a crop of 1.99 & lastly a 1080p mode, this has a crop of 3.97 compared to full frame and when compared to this sensor it is 2.09.
This is awesome for people wanting to use S16 lenses as this crop mode will allow you to use a sensor size small enough for these lenses to cover!
When you are shooting in ProRes things work a little different.
If you are shooting in DCI/UHD you have the same crops as RAW but when you are in HD you can choose between the same crop as UHD or crop in like the HD RAW crop. Jake

CVP - Comes down to processing power. In raw they have to crop the sensor to the actual amount of pixels they’re using. While it may be handy for super16 lenses or if you want to get closer to your subject, it makes shooting wide angles in those modes problematic. Nice positive spin though.

Is there any way to change shutter speed in the p4k? I can only change the shutter angle.
Yeah you can switch between shutter angle or speed. Once in speed you can adjust that.

Very good video but my brain can't think as fast as you speak. I had to run the video at 3/4 speed to follow it properly. I appreciate all the "B" roll but please slow down a bit. I can't wait to get my hands on this camera. What lenses would you use?
Think this is a personal thing as I ran the video back at twice the speed and was able to appreciate everything he went over.

I personally liked the pace the video was going at, I usually play back informative videos at higher speeds because most people are slow talkers.

I’d love to see a friendlier data rate acquisition codec. It is called a cinema camera I guess and the colours look very nice.

Appreciate the info Nic but that is hardly going to be a lightweight codec. I was referring to something more like XAVC - some kind of H264 or H265 acquisition codec.
There are tonnes of cameras to choose from for that. GH5 & GH5S for example. Take your pick. This is not that camera. It fulfils a quite different niche.
Thanks Lucas - or should I say Captain Obvious :) I did mention in my OP that it is pitched as a cinema camera so I understand the niche they're aiming at. With it's better low light capability it could also make a good event camera (which I didn't state) but IMO only if it had a lightweight codec (or you rig it up which kinda defeats the purpose). BTW the other two cameras you mentioned are significantly more expensive so not really a good match.
It was an obvious reply to an obvious oversight. You might as well say "I'd love to see internal ND filters" or "If only it were full-frame" or "shame they didn't put a flip screen on it" or any other commonly mentioned deficiency this camera has. There is Prores 422 Proxy. You can get roughly 6 hours of acquisition on a Samsung T5 500GB SSD, which costs £100. The camera is a cinema camera. It's for people who want to record with higher bitrates and bit depth. Full stop.
So how quickly can I change modes from 24fps to 60fps in 4K RAW or prores?

tmoss89 Yep. The image circle of the BMPCC Speedbooster will not cover the larger sensor of the BMPCC4K and the rear element may cause damage as it sticks out of the back of the speedbooster further than others and as it’s not designed for the BMPCC4K.
there is no focus tracking on this camera? all other cameras are coming with this and this one is not?
No, but BMD is aiming this at more low end cine use and thus have implemented a range of manual focusing aids. If you look at most cine cameras most won't have any AF at all (except Canon). Jake

I know, Movi's cage is 180mm wide while BM is 178.1mm wide. I'm scared I won't be able to fit the camera itself + all the cables. I wondered if anyone had tried it...

Just downgraded by accident my BLMPCC from 6.1 to 5.2 and can't find the way to upgrade to 6.2. What a nightmare!

I doubt they'll 'fix' the playback behaviour thou, it has been the same on my Ursa since I've got it and I have the latest firmware installed.
Why do you say CinemaDNG is a problematic format? I like the fact that you have 1 file per frame as it makes handling longer shots easier. The new BM raw dumps the entire sequence into a single file.
I also think that BM raw will be exclusively for the Ursa Mini Pro, as it'll be one of its main selling points along with the built in ND filters.
Blackmagic RAW is only for Ursa Mini Pro, Pocket 4K and Ursa Mini will not get it.
BlackMagic has already said they are 100% bringing it to the pocket 4K ... but they have lied b4

mariotriforce Unfortunately they will not. I spoke to them directly. Only Ursa Mini Pro will have it. It’s a hardware issue with the sensors that are different than the one in Pro.
hey did you talk with them recently? I believe you, blackmagic is always lieing to customers. like when they said the original ursa would be able to have an upgradeable sensor

No it doesn't come with a card and no you will either need an SD card, CFAST 2.0 card or a fast enough external USB-C SSD.

No it doesn't come with a lens and yes you do need one.

Is it official that all the things the app can do with an Ursa can be done with a P4K? Because I somehow doubt that. :) More info on what exactly can be done via the remote app with the P4K would be an awesome future video, and one I don't think anyone else has yet done (like this video).
Very useful tip about not blocking the exit vent on the bottom - something I'm hoping accessory vendors have taken into consideration, but I'm willing to bet some haven't. Something to keep an eye on.

what i don't like about this camera is when shooting 120fps 1080p there is a crop . so crop in a cropped sensor doesn't sounds good . otherwise this camera is a small beast .
I believe in RAW it crops 1080p 120fps, but won't do 120 in Prores at all.

i think it's ridiculous for this camera to crop in on a MFT sensor. Why not release an FHD version? Not everyone has a 4k editing-capable rig. Imo Blackmagic makes prosumer items that are really just toys for those with money. Just get a full frame 1080p.
Get a speed booster and you have the best of both worlds

I know this happens with the Ursa’s to I thought it was still work mentioning for all the people who don't know that this is a ”normal” thing.

Now, when BM released the Ursa everybody was hype and they all went out and bought it. Half yr later they've released the BM Mini Pro and everyone who bought the Ursa was mad and felt deceived which is very understandable. I feel this might be the case with the BM4K Pocket. I mean, is BM serious with this camera? I rather give it a little more time for BM to listen to user reviews, wishes and suggestions in terms of what has to go into the follow up BM4K Pocket. Watch them putting stabilisation, ND Filters, tilting screen and so forth, including major bug-fixes into their nxt model.

There is already a ton of footage out there (and has been for weeks), but nobody has yet done what this video has.
@@genjii931 wolfcrow covered the camera with write speed tests a week ago... cvp is a bit late ;)
Wolfcrow does not have the best reputation in some circles, and from what I've read in comments about his review, he doesn't seem to have enough technical knowledge to be relied upon. I've not seen it, though, so I dunno. I wouldn't take any one source as gospel, though.
