    Everything is tightened up and not as muddy. I've had the same results with other speakers. Good job man!

    So the braid goes on top of joint, and iron on top. Cheers mate. Learned something new

    low frequency has lost boom and as the new caps bed in you should find they will be more defined in the low end and treble is now much improved.

    Useful video Michael, I've got a feeling you may be 'playing' with these speakers again to get them even better.. Good job..

    I hear a very clear difference in bass response. I don't know how long you have had them play after the recap but they may yet improve a bit in their bass presence, but bass also sounded a bit heavy handed before the recap. Things probably have to even out a bit.

      TBH only played then for 1 whole day then did the sound test the next day, so in time I am think you are right these will get better

    Glad the mods worked 😉
    You may not have lost any LF but it seems like the mid and HF is further forward? Thus giving the impression the LF is reduced possibly?
    The ESR will have been mildly effected by running caps in series but it seems the sonic character hadn’t been negatively effected.
    Cheers for the mention Micheal.
    Regards
    Kev

      No problem Kevin, I am pretty pleased with the results so far on these speakers, will have another dabble another day I think

      Yes but if you put a bypass capacitor between the team in parallel .1 say is the idea to lower the ESR of the capacitors is all that's needed

    Hi Micheal, I bought Ditton 22 and absolutely surprised by its performance as you are right about soundstage doesn’t expand beyond speakers but it does have immense soundstage depth and very fast and impactful Bass again hats off as you are spot on about but shouty mids but over all these 70’s speakers easily competes with new speakers in range of £400-700 .I m using them worn Arcam Aplha 8 amp.
    My question is how will these speakers perform to modern Amps ? Over £1200 mark like HEGEL h90 or Naim nait ? That’s leads to my question is Ditton 44 worth upgrade ?

      Thanks for the Comment, would like myself to go through the range of these dittons 22 to 66 , 15s were a bit to midrange sounding for me. An interesting little read on the dittons 15's 44's mentioned and 66's can be found here if you have not seen it before

    Haven't flip the phase on the mid-range yet and you haven't checked what it was originally.
    Try a smaller value resistor in the treble by replacing the one that's there, you changed it?
    try piece of foam behind the Bass Driver or better still some natural wool fleece rolled up try 25% extra
    The inductor coil is not big enough for the Bass Driver thicker gauge be better make your own! 0.8 to 1 mm thick lacquer copper try 90 turns 1.5 inches long wrap it around some three quarter of an inch find old pipe wrapping around take the pipe out afterwards keep you wines tight to each other might do it.
    Bypass capacitor might be worthwhile on the bass possibly and mid-range if you want more bass it's a polystyrene or polyurethane cap of 0.3uF add it across the the two in- series in parallel to them, increase your bass. have small value bypass capacitor especially on the woofer and mid-range you could add the same to the mid-range but may 0.1uF, definitely flip that drivers make sure it's out of phase if it's not already the mid-range, and check the woofers in in-phase you can do this by using the amplifier and checking with a multimeter on the individual driver terminals

      Thanks John, at the moment I just did the re-cap for a video upload as that is what I thought a lot of people just do without doing anything else., I will come back to these speakers in another video as I think they are worth perusing further and will come back to your comments for things to try, Phase flipping on the midrange being the first I think.
      Thanks again John

    • @johnsweda2999
      @johnsweda2999 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes phase flipping on the mid-range if it isn't already, if the negative wire corresponds to the negative were on the crossover than it probably isn't.
      Are you happy with the sound so far... except for the top end you like a bit brighter bit and firmer bass, what about trying it with some subwoofers? Have you got any? If not try the Wharfedale sw150 £150 new get2, What do the speakers go down to?

    • @MichaelYates
      @MichaelYates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't ant subs at the moment, but I am happy with the sound at the moment, may improve a little with a little more playing. I will come back to these at some stage and do a little more experimenting.

    • @johnsweda2999
      @johnsweda2999 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MichaelYates sure but you need subs they're your friends!! not just with those speakers but with majority of speakers, and you don't need to go crazy in size or price, the Wharfedale sw150 ideal are very good subs and fantastic for the price won't be around for long!! ideal for 2-channel listening meant to go with the Wharfedale 9.2.
      Of course mate price I understand but you should consider them, and maybe second-hand you'd get them a lot cheaper they are active subwoofers.
      Listen to one speaker not two when you're doing your listening tests, swap between the converted and the unconverted, you should have done that when you were doing the crossover. And don't rush it give it time to adjust your own hearing You got any questions at the time let me know. Don't forget the blue tack gaskets!

    • @MichaelYates
      @MichaelYates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks John, yes I think looking back now that I should have done one crossover then a test between the 2 speakers, but as they sit at the moment I do prefer the re-capped sound. I will keep an eye out for the Wharfdale sub 2nd hand and any other come to that, as they would be another piece of the HiFi jigsaw to review.

    why didn't you use two 20 or 21 uf capacitors (cheaper) connected in parallel, instead of two 80uf (more expensive) capacitors connected in series?

    • @MichaelYates
      @MichaelYates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment Nelson, yes that would have made more sense. I kind of got completely mixed up after ordering all the caps of a quite well known site, when I ordered them they were all in stock according to their website.
      But I had an e-mail a few days later saying that most were out of stock, then I started to giggle the order around to get as close as possible to what I needed. Then messed up with the two 80's, were as you say two 20's made more sense.
