- This video demonstrates step-by-step how to administer subcutaneous fluids to a dog. It shows how to connect up all the parts and how to insert the needle. Subcutaneous fluids can easily be given at home to your dog for various conditions, and is a simple way to provide the additional hydration your dog may require for certain conditions.
It helped me sooo much to be able to watch TH-cam videos several times before I had to give my dog fluids. The vet tech showed me how to do it as well, but I was overwhelmed and couldn't remember everything, but watching these videos gave me the confidence to do it. Thank you 🙏
I found this so helpful tonight - thanks for posting it 😊
This was wonderful. Very thorough. Thank you very much!
her voice is very comforting
Mine started this easy and now even with 2 of us we couldn't give her the shot last night because she fought as soon as I pulled the skin up and now I'm not sure what to do
My dog screamed when I put the needle in. It was awful. I'm a nurse and I was definitely in the fat and not the muscle. I tried a smaller gauge (23) but it takes so long that he starts to move around. Is there anything I can do so that a larger gauge needle isn't so painful for him?
Numbing cream to the site 10 min before?
have you tried local anesthesia (2% lidocaine) administered with a 25 or 27ga needle? I found that gabapentin an hour prior to subq fluids helped my old man feel less anxious and ambo. wishing you luck!
Is this for a puppy too?
I thought it had to be inserted to a blood vien.
Not for subcutaneous administration.
