    ceiling fans are a huge help in a hot kitchen...the light fixture has a nice vintage feel to it, I'm sure you'll sell it quickly. Thanks for sharing your safelty tips...

      Albany Mountain life The one thing he did not point out is that some junction boxes are not suited for use with ceiling fans. If you are putting a ceiling fan in, you should always ensure the junction box is suited for use with ceiling fans, and replace it if it isn’t. Otherwise, the fan could potentially fall down while it is in use.

    Its nice you take the time to show people who may not have any experience with changing light fixtures. Love the old light- something my wife would pick out.

    I always learn from you! Can't wait to show my Hubs! We need folks like you to pass on info like this for those that missed out on practical 'How-to' wisdoms because they didn't have a handyman mentor in their lives. May the cool breezes be the fruit of your labors!!

    Nice job Danny and it will make all the difference. My hubby's a sparkie too as we say here and has installed fans into every room of the house and I love having them.

    Gosh Danny.. it's a shame they don't have you teaching shop class in town there, you are an awesome instructor! In fact, I don't know that they still offer shop classes anywhere anymore? I took it as well as Home Economics back in the day (one of very few girls in shop class, but I loved woodworking). This was a great instructional video! I often go to TH-cam for help with projects around the house since my husband passed away (he was a remodeler by profession) and this is the type of how to video or series I often seek! You are very conscientious and thorough! 😊 Thanks for sharing!

    Well done Danny hanging the fan. Make sure fan blows air upward to keep hot air up near ceiling so as to draw cool air upward from floor. If air moves right you should be about ten degrees cooler in the kitchen unless Wanda isn't working to hard.

    For anyone not very comfortable with fans the hunter five minute fans are real simple. They come pretty much 90% assembled just install blades and wire it up.

      although it doesn't take five minutes. still, it is a very cool featured fan

    Taping the wire nut is not code. You're supposed to use a linesman to twist bonds the wires. Tape isn't needed.

    How should I wire the fan if I have an additional hot wire (red and black) ? Also I don’t have an additional switch on the wall to control the fan independently of the light.
    Thanks in advance and Nice video btw!

    Very helpful, thank you. My only confusion is in my light fixture box in the ceiling I have a black wire, a tan wire, a red wire, and a copper ground wire going to a screw. My current 2 bulb light fixture has black going to red, white going to tan (which I guess is white), the black wire in the ceiling is just capped off and the ground goes to a screw. I don’t understand 😞

    • @BrockNessMonster1991
      @BrockNessMonster1991 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      - I got it, my black wire in the ceiling did nothing. I had to connect the black and blue from the fan to the Red in the ceiling, white from fan to light brown (supposed to be white), and disconnect the copper ground from the screw and connect it to green ground from fan. All working now, thanks for your tutorial video 👍🏻

    You emphasized that you always take the ground wire loose first. Could you explain 'why' you feel that is necessary?

    • @DeepSouthHomestead
      @DeepSouthHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lonely Prepper Homestead Well its impossible to be shocked if your not grounded.So to be safe i unhook the ground in case my hand happens to touch the fixture while undoing the hot wire.I know the power is off but ive gotten into boxes before that had 2 hot wires running into the box and got shocked before thinking that by throwing the breaker and killing the power to that box that i was ok not knowing someone ran a second hot wire into the box taking a shortcut with wire and got me shocked.Just safety first.THanks

    what did you do with your old lamp?

  • @tamig.7969
    @tamig.7969 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey, there are two green wires coming from the fan portion one on the backet attached to the ceiling, one coming out of the top of the fan and then the copper one coming out of the ceiling. The one that cofuses me is the one on the bracket that the fan hangs on ? where does that attach...you skipped alot of your wiring in the video.

    • @DeepSouthHomestead
      @DeepSouthHomestead  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      All the green wires twist together and then twist to the copper wire and put a wire nut on it and tape it.
