    Your baby bump is so cute!! You literally look like you haven't gained any weight and it's all belly. That's so awesome! Thank you for sharing what's in your freezer, it gave me a few ideas of items that I need to add into my rotation and keep handy. Btw - your cat's cameo was super cute!

    Another great video! I love being able to "peek" at what's in your fridge/freezer...and soon pantry. I definitely need to get better at using glass for freezing soups and leftovers. I haven't seen anything wrapped in aluminum foil...is that a bad thing? I saw something recently that seemed to say it's bad....I didn't get to read the article and now I can't find it. Best wishes for your new arrival! ❤️ ~LindaLee

    You Look So Adorable!!!!
    I keep canned beans in my pantry (is that a bad thing) I really rinse them well and only buy organic ones with low sodium. I also confess to canned soups for the winter time. :( I never thought to put my flours in my freezer that's a great idea and makes a lot of sense too. I think I need to overhaul my Pantry and Freezer for sure now ughh...hehe.
    Thanks so much Joy.....you look so great your skin is glowing...Lv Lucille xoxo

      +Lucille Salzer Thanks Lucille! That's totally fine, as long as the majority of what you eat is NOT in a can, the odd can of beans here or there is fine.

    Another great video Joy! Just to make sure I heard correctly... oats should be stored in the fridge or freezer? How about coconut flour, cacao powder, and cacao nibs? I think all of those things have fats.

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +STEPHANIE MAE Oats do not have to be stored in the freezer, but I choose to because once I open the package I don't always use them right away. In fact, you could store them outside of the refrigeration for a few weeks. I just prefer with oats and nuts and seeds and flours to put in the fridge or freezer to maintain freshness. If however, you use these items every day and end up replenishing them when you shop each week then refrigeration isn't necessary. I have my coco flour in the freezer too but I always let it sit on the counter for about 30 minutes before using it because it's a strange beast! I will review the other superfoods you've mentioned in my next vid "what's in my kitchen pantry".

    I shop and store very similarly to you, but never knew to keep nuts/flours in the fridge/freezer. It makes so much sense!
    Are there any other foods we should be keeping in the fridge/freezer that generally are kept in the pantry, or cupboard? Are there foods that are often kept in the fridge that shouldn't be?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Allyson H When I do my next video "what's in my kitchen pantry" it will hopefully answer your question of what can be stored outside of the fridge. You can't really go wrong storing something in the fridge... It's more NOT storing something that should be in the fridge that is usually more of an issue. For example, I had my homemade coconut butter in the fridge but I also keep the commericial brands I buy outside of the fridge.

    Have you done any videos or can you link to any information about canned goods? I've thought that going bpa-free with canned goods would be okay. After all, like frozen fruits and veggies, those that are canned are processed at their peak of freshness. Thanks!

    Hi Joy, my girlfriend turned me onto the Joyous Health channel and I/we love your videos! She even knows the name of your kitty, Theo. Apparently Theo looks alot like my cat, Leo but sadly my gf is allergic to kittehz... is there any known food that might help her cope with a cat allergy?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Karl Lind Yes! Eat foods that are high in quercitin as this can help reduce the histamine response -- apples, onions etc. Also foods high in vitamin C -- basically all fruits and veggies but more vegetables than fruits. Theo is our cat that always likes to be in my vids, we have another furball named Miss Nellers too. She's just the sweetest thing ever but much more shy ;) Hopefully your GF's allergies clear up. Also check at your fave health food store because there are good homeopathics that can help too. And lastly, get a good HEPA air filter for your home that cleans the dander -- which is what causes the allergy.

    hi joy, i love this sort of video. nice and casual. just wondering if you have done any meal prep for when the baby arrives. im due in 10weeks and have wanted to freeze a bunch of easy meals to heat up in an oven so that i dont end up eating lots of takeaway in the early weeks. would love to know if you are doing something similar and what meals you have planned.

      +Bernadette Dyer Hi there! Yes I sure have. This week I'm planning to make a big batch of granola, muffins and soup. My hubs and I get an organic food delivery (just produce) every week so that's one less thing to worry about. The other thing you probably noticed from my video is I always keep a good stock of protein in the freezer that we replenish every few weeks. We are actually doing our shop tonight to get fish and chicken. This way, we can cook up a super quick veggie dish by sauting it or making a raw salad and then cook some protein -- just baking or grilling it so it's quick -- dinner in like 10 minutes! Not sure if you follow me on instagram but I'm @Joyoushealth and I post a ton of food ideas there too. Good luck over the next 10 weeks!!! It's very exciting. I have a feeling it's going to happen for me this week. We shall see :)

    Why would frozen have more nutrition than fresh fruit?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically when fruit is picked for freezing, it's picked at peak ripeness which is when the fruit is usually most nutrient-dense. So the flash-frozen process locks the produce in a relatively nutrient-dense state.

    Joy, I have questions, how do you thaw your flours? Does anything you freeze get soggy when thawing?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Adine Great question, coconut flour is the only one that can be a bit funny. So I would recommend you leave it on the counter for about 30 minutes before using it. Spelt, brown rice flour etc should be fine using it immediately from the freezer or fridge.

    Regarding canned fruits & veg being bad - what about tomatoes? It conflicts with info I always read about canned tomatoes being great for you. What do you think?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +parnissia If the large majority of what you eat (over 95% or higher) does not come from a can and you eat mostly fresh fruit and vegetables then the odd can of tomatoes is fine. Just keep in mind that there are no brands of tin cans of tomatoes (that I'm aware of) that are BPA-free. Due to the acidic nature of tomatoes, they have to have BPA lined cans. You can however, by jarred diced or whole tomatoes that are certified organic.

      +Joyous Health Super, thank you so much for replying! I'll continue to eat canned tomatoes when fresh aren't available, since I just love them! I like the Muir Glen brand :)

    • @joyoushealth

      +Cindy Tan To avoid ingesting plastic molecules. And it's better for the environment to have less plastic. Of course it's impossible to avoid entirely, but every little bit counts.

    Where did you buy the gluten free bread made in Toronto?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ravnit Dhak I bought that loaf at the Leslieville Cheese Market I think it's called, but they also sometimes have it at Essence of Life in Kenzi market and at Whole Foods. It's called "Queen Street Bakery" so if you google it you can probably find various retail locations. Every time I spot it I buy a few loaves and freeze them because they sell out so fast. My fave one is the "breakfast blend" because it has nuts and seeds in it.

    I recently started a calorie count diet and it is kind of difficult. I have been watching your you tube videos and leaning as much as I can about eating right....I have never had to diet in my life but now that I am 48 it is catching up with me. So many of the good things I like are nuts and avacado's but so many of these natural things have lots of calories. What is your take on this since I am trying to loose weight and on a 1200 calorie intake. I am starting yoga tomorrow so maybe I just have to not worry so much about the calories but eat healthy (and less) and start a work out program. Am I doing this all wrong?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Terri Rodriguez I don't calorie count, or believe in it as a strategy for the general population. Instead, if you focus of eating whole, real foods and make sure half of you plate is full of veggies, everything else will fall into place. I've got hundreds of recipes to help you on your journey and new ones weekly - you can find them all here: www.joyoushealth.com/taste/

    I know this is an older video so I am not sure if you still get notifications. Anyways, can you use your flour straight from the freezer or does it have to thaw? I have never stored flour in the freezer. Thank you!!

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I still get the notificiations :) It depends on the flour! I find coconut flour because it's so absorbent needs time to thaw otherwise it can change the outcome of your recipe. But brown rice flour, almond meal etc is fine straight from the freezer to your recipe.

    Joy, I am just moving into my second trimester of pregnancy and have recently been having a hard time with morning sickness. I try to eat as healthy as possible, but sometimes my body craves the things that aren't good. what trimester are you in? Did you have any cravings like this? how did you deal with them?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nicole Modugno Congrats on your pregnancy!! Every woman has such a different experience, so for me, no I didn't have cravings for bad stuff. Although I did eat lots of pizza (homemade -- almond crust... sooooo good!!!). Don't feel bad about it, just nourish your body with as much goodness as possible and take a really high quality prenatal. I'm 38.5 weeks so I'm due really soon! I had more food "aversions". For my whole first trimester I hated fish, lost my appetite pretty much too.

    • @5runhard
      @5runhard 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joyous Health ok, thank you for the advice! did your prenatal ever make you nauseous?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nicole Modugno Yes, and this is pretty common. I started out taking NFH Prenatal and then switched to Genestra's Pregnavite and had no trouble with it. Always make sure you take it about halfway or towards the end of your meal otherwise it can still make your tummy feel a bit sick. I also take a high dose probiotic which definitely helps with digestion. Hope that helps!
