8:48 the Guv nightclub! Years of great party nights still awaited back in 01’ before they demolished it for … condos lol. I was 18 when this was filmed and can remember this version of Toronto so well. It was a special time for TO. It had an awesome feel, lots to still do, but without the dense population, cell phones, intense advertising and condos everywhere. Back then Toronto didn’t try to imitate a true global centre like NYC or London. And that made it special. Thanks for sharing this. Cool trip to watch.
Guvernment, Kool Haus and there were a few other clubs attached to them. There were cellphones back then but not Smartphones so you only used it when you needed it.
A different time that I miss. Even though there were societal issues then, I feel it was much more straightforward. I look back with nostalgia for the good times past.

A much better time. Things were as expensive and crowded with people. I grew up in the '80s, I have the same feelings as you do when I think of the 80's and now, 00's. Full of nostalgia.
I was 14 years old in 2001 and I feel like the video quality was better than this during that year. This recording looks like it's from the late 80s or 90s. Maybe the camcorder was a little older from the 90s but recorded in 2001. I lived in Brampton during this year.
At that time I used to have one 8mm Camcorder that also without image stabilization. VHS and 8mm resolution can be considered as 480i, DVD horizontal resolution 2.25 times better than VHS. HD is 1080p and now a days 4k is the standard. Technology has improved a lot. Thanks
dude, there is no set "video quality" for any year. there are videos with bad quality in 2024, and there are videos with good quality from the 50s. i also cant say this video looks too much different from any other ive seen on camcorders from 2001
@cameron8529 there's a max video quality for every technological generation. They didn't have 4k or even 1080 back then for sure. So not sure what you're going on about.
@@chronofantasy1987 ok, but your point at first was that the video doesnt look like 2001, but i was telling you it does. also, film cameras have been able to shoot video that could be digitally displayed as 1080p since the early 20th century. and i dont just mean movie cameras, i also mean any camera that could record footage before the analogue era. but what im going on about is the fact that this video doesnt look any different from many other camcorder videos from 2001.
I think this is when the condo boom started. This is also a few weeks before 9-11. I was working at the Rogers head office at Bloor & Jarvis when the planes hit and other office buildings were told to evacuate after the second plane hit. Rogers sent out a company wide email asking us to stay working because telecommunications were very important during this time.
It's the camera man, if this were shot in high def you wouldn't think that. I was alive for both and I can tell you 2001 looks more like 2021 than 1985.
Haha..in those days Betamax, VHS, S-VHS, Hi8 and 8mm were available for consumers 480i was the format. My first memory for HD is a Panasonic 720p plasma 40 inch TV which was around CAD10,000.
It's so empty lol. I have to disagree with some of the comments and say the Toronto skyline now is a lot better. Although not amazing, it has the futuristic look with all the condos.
Futuristic? Wait 30 years and it will all look very outdated. These condos are not original, not architecturally interesting, it's already uninspiring now and it will get worse over time.
2002 to 2009 was the best time to be in Toronto. Racism went way down, a minority could get a good job, there was law and order, things were still reasonably priced. Before 2001 and after 2012 -garbage

i was an infant when this was filmed, i wonder what it would be like to go back in time and fully experience early 2000s toronto
The parties & dance clubs back in the late (1990's) & early (2000's) was amazing environment 👍.

Thank you for liking it.
This was filmed on my 28th birthday. Awesome!
Take me back to that exact day
I will come with you! Sometime I fee I should live in a small town rather than GTA.
Miss that Gardiner on-ramp so much!!!
I think Gardiner tear down is not a great decision, just my opinion, I may be wrong 🤔
I was 14 years old when this was recorded living in Toronto, I miss my middle school classmate.
Good luck with everything you do in the future
If you wait four more years after this was made, you would’ve had me if you would’ve had kids at that time
Wow, Toronto skyline looked so much better without those horrendous condos all over downtown.
Communist Chinese Oligarchs laundering money in the Western Real Estate market and baby boomer greed destroyed Toronto/Vancouver (Canada in general).
Yeah. It was very beautiful at that time. People were nice too.
Wish i could go back in time to this day
Same here, I really hope there’s a laboratory working on a time travelling device as we speak…🤞🙏
I watch videos of this days and just say aah! Those were the days!
wonderful days
True, thank you
I was just born when this was filmed and this looks like a completely do city.... I can't imagine Toronto without all the skyscrapers n condos....

Nice tour! Thank you for showing!
Thanks for watching!
Tower looked so huge by itself man but now with the condos? haha it seems smaller. And they only getting bigger!
We used to enjoy clear view of SkyDom and CN tower from the Centre Island.
Great video my friend 👍
Thanks 🙏

was a baby too at this time, double dope
I was born almost exactly a year before this was filmed (11 Dec, 2000), triple dope
