I was 13 in 1968. Following Sunday afternoons at the ROM, my parents would drive through Yorkville in our Country Squire station wagon, gawking at the hippies. Watching this, I can see we weren't the only ones.
Amazing footage! Yorkville in 1968 looked like a mix of beatniks and an upcoming hippie scene. I think the beatniks pretty much disappeared by 1970 and the hippies by 1975, then it started becoming the posh area we see today
Wow, this sure brings back memories. I seen Rochdale College in the drive-by. I was a bit young at the time to be part of it, but heard many stories over the years. What's with all the cars?? Looks like people just cruising, watching the freak show.
Be very careful of revisionist history. Yorkville was a pox - both literally and figuratively on Toronto. In this clip, one can see the trash on the street. That was unlike other neighborhoods. Drug use and prostitution were rampant. A family member of ours got lost in the drug culture living here and frankly never recovered.

This is gold! Wow, I was just there yesterday. Thank you greatly, cheers mate!
The kid who was outside with the dog would be 60 years old now.
:26 Sunny Terry and Brownie McGee at the Riverboat. That would have been a great show!
2:22 I love how that kid showed the milk carton who's boss!
Great stuff. Love all the rubbernecking straight folk in their cars, checking out the hippies 'in the wild"
Lots of Litterbugs back then.

The Hippie era!
Some say those cars are still stuck in traffic….

Does anyone know what was going on at Nathan Philips Square at 3:33?
So the same as now 💜
Gallery Moos at .30s. My classmates at nearby Jesse Ketchum PS two years after this footage included Michel and David Moos, and Keanu Reeves!

You’re saying the video of garbage strewn everywhere and people loitering looks better than now?

Don’t forget all the unmarked graves beneath it.
