    Oh Ernesto. Why did you have to be such a mean person? You were so talented, suave and oozing with machismo so when the first bell fell on you I was shocked! The thing is though that you also, spoiler alert, murdered your best friend Hector and attempted to doom Hector’s grandchild Miguel to the land of the dead sooo when you ended up here, I didn’t feel very bad when another bell fell on you. But when I started to really think about what happened to you I just couldn’t pinpoint what your ending was going to be. Ernesto De La Cruz did that bell bring you to the final death or are you still roaming the Land of the Dead?

      Definitely. Although he was a good singer, he received that fame by stealing it from his best friend and murdering him. Of course he’s going to essentially live on in poverty until he is forgotten, if he’s EVER forgotten.

      I like to think Ernesto De La Cruz is enduring eternal suffering, as while he’s still in the Land of the Dead, he’s arguably THE MOST despised individual there, meaning he’ll be remembered for his cruelty, and thus be reduced to what Hector started out the film as (when us viewers first meet him, that is)! Either way, karma’s a real B***H, ain’t it, De La Cruz? 😈😈😈😈😈
      Anyways, another great video as always, Isaac! Keep up the great work! 👍🏻👍🏻

      Ernesto was not thinking long term when he murdered Hector. had the bell not killed him he would have run out of songs and it would become very obvious that he was not writing the songs. He could come up with some excuse like that he was retiring, but someone could see through that.

    • @OMartinez91
      @OMartinez91 4 ปีที่แล้ว +176

      He claims that he did not felt hatred for Hector, but why would he not only poison him, but discourage him to not go to the doctor by suggesting him tlhe just ate bad chorizo? I'm pretty sure Ernesto lied and he did hate Hector, but eventually told himself it was necessary to the point that Ernesto started to believe it, and his grudge was gone. If he felt bad about what Hector did, he could have made sure Hector lived off decently in the land of the dead instead of letting Hector live as he did

    • @eroith5133
      @eroith5133 4 ปีที่แล้ว +92

      @@OMartinez91 I don't think ernesto had HATED hector. He wanted to be the greatest musician to ever lived, hector, as he said in the movie, wanted atleast a lil bit of credit, if ernesto credited hector then he wouldnt be the greatest musician, singer, AND song writer, he'd just be greatest singer, and even then eh i mean hector's voice is better. So yeah, this was necessary for him to do his evil deeds

    • @eroith5133
      @eroith5133 4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @Super Great716 i know he's evil
      But the other commentor said that he hated hector
      And as i said, i don't think that's the case because ernesto told hector "I CANT DO THIS WITHOUT YOUR SONGS" and hector said sorry bruh im out
      So ernesto HAD to kill him in order to achieve his dreams, because hector didn't allow him to keep the songs, so i think he's evil yes, but i also think that what he did WAS necessary for him to be the greatest musician ever. I tried making this as clear as possible i even repeated my self twice lmao

    • @lelelew2735
      @lelelew2735 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@eroith5133 idk if that completely makes sense.. only because if he killed him to not give him credit then what was the purpose of having him performing with him on the road. It would've been the same outcome if he would've stayed he still would have to give credit. He also easily could've found another song writer some song writers like to stay anonymous as long as they get paid under the table.. so killing hector was pointless to his goal. I think he just got carried away with emotions and at that time thought now or never and didnt consider anyone else's feelings or life because hes " evil" it did seem alittle personal because he felt abandoned by his friend the rest of his actions wasnt personal it was just to keep the secret.

    • @eroith5133
      @eroith5133 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@lelelew2735 Both comments I said he's evil..
      And, hector packed up his songs before he tried to leave, yes there's plenty of musicians out there that would be more than happy to be "ghost writers" and just get paid, but those other writers are NOT hector, ernesto wanted those specific songs, the songs that were considered by many if not all "The best ever", you cant be the best musician if you just write good songs, and you can't be the musician if youre just good at playing instruments/singing, to be the best musician you have to be the best at both
      So, as I said a few times already, ernesto was evil, yes, but he did NOT hate hector, ernesto needed hector's songs (He even told hector "i cant do this without your songs), hector didnt want to stay and wanted to keep the songs he wrote, cause he wrote them, so, killing hector WAS necessary for him.
      So, he is evil but he didnt hate hector, atleast not at the beginning.

If Coco had a post-credit scene, it would show Ernesto now becomes a resident in the complex of the nearly forgotten souls where he's banished after his crimes were exposed. Because I think banishment is a better punishment for Ernesto than imprisonment (and we also don't know whether or not there're a prison and/or court in the Land of the Dead), unable to face the Final Death or even cross to the Land of the Living as he is now remembered as a murderer and fraud in both realms.

His bones would be too big to fit under the tiniest cracks there might be and I doubt that people would let him out if they had he same thought process as me. @Shadow Hedgehog This actually brings up a question. How do the spirits deal with criminals? Everyone in the land of the dead seems to be good happy honest people. Maybe a swindler here or there, but no one notorious. However, major criminals and outlaws are still remembered.
      I think back to another film that deals with the land of the dead. Corps Bride. The spirits there are also fun, good, honest people. However, at the end od the film we see a more sinister side when they deal with the dead Barron. Almost like they made his afterlife a literal hell.
      Which brings me back to Ernesto. Would the spirits leave him under yhe bell? Maybe. But I feel like there would be something else they would do. Something to keep him away from all the good honest spirits, and punish him for his crimes in the land of the living.

    On top of that, due how popular he is implied to be, there are gonna be some die hard fans that would remember him fondly. I mean look at R. Kelly, he has been accused of so many different things with mountains of evidence stacked against him, but there are still superfans who think he is innocent and would probably take a bullet for him.

    Also I believe that Miguel's family would use the funds from hector's museum to BUY all of Ernesto's merchandise, and pay lawyers for ALL the rights. Thus allowing them to buy most of it. Though he might still be around, but as long as those in the afterlife remember to HATE him, they would keep the bell where it is... TRAPPING him forever, where people can keep annoying him. In my opinion, ernestro's defeat is one of the most satisfying disney villain defeats. Like he no longer has friends, he no longer has his fans, he lost his huge mansion, his money, his gifts from his fans, and he is gonna be alive in the land of the dead for many years to come while being remembered as nothing but as a lying selfish murderer and being hated. I think it's way better than him being forgotten because he deserves to still be in the land of the dead while being hated for many years. It's like letting a horrible criminal live in jail for many many years instead of giving the criminal a death penalty. Why? Because death penalty is only a punishment that lasts for a few seconds, so letting the criminal pay for it's actions while staying trapped in jail alive for years is a way much better punishment. I don't know, that's my opinion. But yea, him getting crushed by a bell for the second time is only just the beginning of his suffering, he is now gonna be hated and rejected by everyone who used to love him. That's what he deserves for killing his own best friend who just wanted to see his family again.

    Ernesto verbally admitted his Reputation is the most important thing to him. Justice was definitely served to this villain. Even if hypothetically he had retained a few companions and wealth, he would have to live out eternity in the land of the dead shamed, ridiculed and hated by those in our world and theres. In the land of the dead they know he murdered hector and tried to kill a living child.
    After hector’s reveal as the true music genius came to light in both worlds he lost the one thing he cared about - his reputation. Hector will live on in the world of the dead with the love of his family, music, and reputation he now deserves. The irony of how Coco ended is how stories like this end in real life- Look at how many celebrities turn out to be obscenely horrible people, but after a few years, no one cares about their crimes anymore. Even the worst monsters get that kinda rebirth- People start becoming indifferent to the crime, or worse- They paint them as the victim. Look at Marvin Gaye for an example, people were so appalled by what a monster he was to his wife, mistresses, and groupies with benefits that many areas banned his music, like they're doing with Michael Jackson now. Then it became "But he was a a great performer...", then it was "Remember him as this, not this..." And now, discussions and biopics on him paint that his own father shot him in self defense as this huge tragedy, and ignore that Gaye was going after his mother in the altercation he was killed over.
    Ernesto got the equivalent of a career slump.

    What I want to know is this: we found out that the photo of Mama Imelda and toddler Coco was folded to hide the part of the photo containing Hector. Which means that technically Hector's picture really was on the offrenda the whole time. So why couldn't he cross the marigold bridge in previous years? Is it because his image isn't visible on the offrenda? Or because the photo doesn't contain the image of his head? That seems petty, because nobody says the rule is "your face must be visible on the offrenda". The rule is "your picture must be on the offrenda."

    • @fantasyfiction101

  • @broadwaymelody33
    @broadwaymelody33 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    I’m assuming in the land of the dead, he lives with nothing. And in the living world, I’m going to go ahead and guess that, given the contextual cues that said things like”Forget You” on his grave, that word got out that he did away with Hector.
    Coco finally revealed her father’s name, then reveals his poems and lyrics, then there’s a photo of him WITH “Ernesto’s guitar”, and the fact that he disappeared in the same year that he went on tour with Ernesto. This is probably mentioned somewhere in one of the letters, maybe like “I am having a fun time with Ernesto!”. I feel like if Miguel or anyone had brought that to any musical historian or authority, then word would have gotten around quickly, especially considering that he disappeared forever and then Ernesto magically appeared and claimed to have owned this guitar and written these songs. A lot can happen in a year, and even if poor Hector’s body wasn’t found or something, those puzzle pieces add up and rumors spread fast.

      Wolves600Gaming The fact that they let the Rivera’s keep the guitar though is a big thing. That was in de la Cruz’s crypt for over 70 years, after all. There must have been something substantiated that came out to prove that it wasn’t just the fact that he stole some lyrics, but also his guitar. And how he got the guitar probably became a thing that led to more questions answered. “This was Hector Rivera’s?” “Yes, our grandfather Hector went on tour with Ernesto and was never heard from again, but Ernesto had his guitar and lyrics” “.....huh...”
