    Thanks so much for sharing. Did you use paint stripper then sand blasting for the interior of the base?

    Looks a lot like a Stanley Handyman. I didn't know Eclipse made Bailey style planes. I know about their honing guides. You should get one. You don't have to get an authentic one. The clones work. My knock off did need some flattening on the bed with a file though. That took 5 minutes. I got mine off Aliexpress. I got the "stainless" model they have. It has a nice heft to it. Honing guides are a game changer with chisels and plane irons.

      Thank you for watching and leaving feedback. I'm familiar with the stanley handyman planes. Alot of the no name brands were made by stanley or sargent. This plane when compared to a stanley is ok..but I would prefer the latter over the former. I use a tormek to sharpen. Works really good

    why the plastic wrap around to Evapo-rust?

    • @cannonwoodworking5917
      @cannonwoodworking5917  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had to go back and watch the video over to see what you were referring to. I put the plastic wrap over the container to minimize the solvent from evaporating. Although I edited it out..the parts soaked for 2 days. Thank you for watching and leaving feedback

    Why don’t you use electrolysis? The rust will drop of so will the paint!

    • @cannonwoodworking5917
      @cannonwoodworking5917  ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about using electrolysis in future projects. The problem I run into is space in my garage and costs for the supplies. If I make a electrolysis tank I have to find a place to store it

    • @roberttailspin6330
      @roberttailspin6330 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe we're thinking about something different, but to remove rust using electrolysis, I use a plastic 5 gallon bucket for a tank and baking soda added to water for the electrolysis medium. It's cheap, easy and you don't have to worry about disposing of hazardous chemicals.

    • @cannonwoodworking5917
      @cannonwoodworking5917  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@roberttailspin6330 sounds like I need to try that. Is there a good video or tutorial on how to do that?

      @@cannonwoodworking5917 A quick web search will reveal a ton of videos that illustrate the process. In any event, the process is quite simple. Unlike electroplating, we aren't concerned with imparting metal coatings on a finely finished surface, we're using electrolysis to strip rust, so tight constraints and purity aren't important. Ordinary tap water is more than pure enough, (you could likely use water from a mud puddle, though it would be less efficient). Baking soda is used to increase the conductivity of the water, which speeds up the process, so don't get too concerned about concentrations and whether or not it all gets dissolved. Most references will stipulate an amount to use, but in practice, just dumping a box of baking soda in the water and give it a quick swirl is good enough. Some sources recommend something other than baking soda, but it's just nit-picking and baking soda works just fine. Rotate your piece at some time during the procedure since the process is most efficient when the surface of the work piece is line of sight to the sacrificial piece. When completed a quick wash and an easy scrub with a nylon brush will reveal a bare surface. Repeat the process if the work piece was heavily fouled.
