    Hustler bale feeders are great have 2. Can get the chained feeder that can go on the loader and 3 point linkage. Interesting video get ringworm on cattle here in Australia at the start of summer

    Hi Phil,
    I have a narrow passageway like that, and I use a McHale bale splitter on the front of the loader. It does a great job for me. Start at 1 end and split the bales as you work down. After splitting the bale you can give each half a nudge to the left and right and work your way down the passageway that way.

    The fungus survives in timber, so getting rid of the timbers in that feed barrier will mean no spores there for next years weanlings at least.
    We've no holly, minimal ringworm. Ringworm usually runs its course in a couple of months and the cattle build immunity to it no matter what you do. Sure holly costs nothing anyway!

  • @johnnybrophy8229
    @johnnybrophy8229 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    I've worked on a lot of farms over the years doing concrete and the Holly works from every farmer I have talked to and it is something to do with the fungus as it dies and it will last 2 or 3 years before you have to change it.

    I have been putting up holly for years and I was in Switzerland years ago and told an old farmer that I meet about it even went with him to get a branch or two ( easier said than done in the alps) and hung it over his calves, I think he just went along with it to be polite, anyway about six months later I got a letter with a half a dozen photos of his cattle with no ringworm, he was delighted and said he didn’t know how it worked but it worked and he had gone through years of hardship trying to get rid off ringworm but it was in his house and regardless of what he did he could not prevent his calves from getting it this summer I was back in Switzerland and visited many farms up and down the country and not all but most farms I was in had a bunch of holly tied up somewhere, didn’t see a calf with ringworm anywhere.

  • @Ham68229
    @Ham68229 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Phil, I suggest you pull that one and keep it separate from the rest of the herd. Last thing you want is it for the rest to get it. Yes, the Holly works Phil. Do it now, quickly as possible. Ringworm is nothing to joke about. When I raised beef cattle when I took over the farm, was taught to get holly and hang it. To be honestly, never ever had ringworm. I wish you the best at nipping this ringworm in the butt. Fungus's can get away rather quickly if not careful. People can get ringworm as well so be careful with it, same with pink eye.
    I don't know where my Grand dad got it but, when I was knee high to a grasshopper, he planted several Holly's on his 15 acre homestead. You might check around and plant a few bushes of each for future. You never know what the future has in store for us humbled farmer folk.
    Phil, I don't know if you have "Vermeer" in your country, I'm sure you do but, look into their bale shredders/feeder. It's like a tub grinder and feeds on one side. Cheers :)

    Hi, yes ringworms. When I was a boy growing up on the family farm in North Devon, we had ringworm problems, lots of it. I caught it a few times. Later my Dad was taught how to “Bless “ them. And it seemed to work, the ringworm would go, old wife’s tales or what but yes they did go, the ringworm. So the holly could be the same. Good Luck To You All. Clifford
