We have a 52 year old 4 bay double double slatted shed, not unlike that one there. On its 3rd set of slats! First set were all homemade singles and 15 years they lasted. The penning was cables, that wasn’t a good idea as cattle got caught up in them and soon after converted to gates. Did a big repair on the roof last year with second hand sheets. Triggers brush comes to mind 😊
Looks great Phil just needs Comfort Slat Mats on top now and it will look mighty! Could dig out below the tank on the far wall where the water is coming in that would stop the flow but couldnt drive out that end of the shed.
As always enjoy your content. The water seeping down beside the shed I wonder if a man couldn't dig beside the shed and put bentonite to stop the water but I don't know if you have that availability in Ireland just a thought good luck
Some of the water ingress is from the back wall, you are missing guttering and the ivy growth is then catching this water and deflecting it down the wall. At the very least strip the ivy off but better still sort the guttering.
Its all rented ground and sheds, no point spending crazy money on these things unless you own them. So replacing the slats is handy because its grant spec
@lefthandontop426 they were all single slats, and some of them cracked and had falling into the tank. So for a safety and piece of mind they changed them
Phil Google sikadur. It's a building product you might need to order it but I'd say it will work in that tank where the water is seeping in, as far as I remember you can use it in masonry and mass concrete. Would you consider a French drain around the shed at least on the worst side of the shed as a test. I know it's a rented shed and you have to weigh up the cost
Just throwing it out there to people , can anyone help me with locating a bonnet for McCormick mc115? Can’t be bought new anymore!! Any help greatly appreciated
You should have cleaned out the tank while you had them slats to cut and shove the broom up yer arse an you could have swept the floor at the same time, 🤣😂 only messn, it's all coming together Phil nice one 👍👍
If the downpies from the guttes are coming down at the end where the water is coming in that would be a lot of water if you could divert that it might help Another great video farmer Phil
If there’s a dike or any place to run a drain to, dig up around the outside walls a few feet down and run a drain filled with stone around the side of the shed if it’s only getting in at the top of the wall
I know you are trying to make use of the shed but it’s hardly worth bothering about because the tanks look very shallow and even after the expense of putting the new slats on if you look up the roof is nearly fucked as well
centre wall seems very narrow around six inches wide when it should have been 9 or 10 inches wide . the way it was built the original slats hadnt much bearing on the wall
My tractor seat was squeaky, driving me mad. Removed the plastic rivets around the rubber with flat screwdriver and sprayed the inside throughout with wd40 no more squeaks.
Less talk more action as that’s the first video I’ve skipped through as the information is being constantly repeated. Tom Pemberton, Baldys farm and 10th generation dairyman are clear, concise and to the point. Really enjoyed your journey and all that goes on and I know the Irish are legendary for their chat but if it makes a shorter video with less of it in then that’s fine. Please know that this comes from a genuine place and not to criticise to pull you down.
@dgmxm175 The hydradig was caught for room maneuvering the short slat. With a long slat you're either going to have to knock the gable wall and use a forklift or take off the whole roof and use a crane. Expensive work on a rented shed. Also maybe the owner doesn't want that kind of destruction
electric work with them saws is the worst thing cutting of steps an it catches an jumps out of the wall its not much fun. know a local man does nothing but cutting an you couldn't find him in the place when cutting as he doesn't run water while cutting.
wouldnt be that hard to dig a french drain around the perimeter of the shed or could you not pump it into a bladder tank when its full a bladder wouldnt need planning as its mobile
Cracking work there.. last time I removed slats was with a skidsteer and I was down in the holes with it.. did a good job at scraping it out after though 😅.. hight lift newholland.. lifting the first few it the loader lowering in the skidsteer then driving around with the slats up above yer head was interesting 😅... stay safe 🏴
I agree. In Canada it's called "Blue Skin" it's an self adhesive membrane, you just dig up that part of the exterior wall clean it and apply the membrane. Farmer Phil has all the equipment necessary to do the job. Wouldn't take half a day.
Dig a drain around the shed where ye can, keep a lot of the water back from the wall
Dig out the wall and hydro lock seal it, that should keep the water out.
The centre wall is a huge problem .being built with blocks leaves it very suspect. It being the wall that carrying the most weight

Been hander building a new skin off blocks up the side off the middle walls

Dig a trench 2meters out from shed put in drain pipe fill with clean stone
Looks great Phil just needs Comfort Slat Mats on top now and it will look mighty! Could dig out below the tank on the far wall where the water is coming in that would stop the flow but couldnt drive out that end of the shed.
Put in a French drain all around the outside of the shed to stop water soaking into the tank. Pipe drain and take it away from the shed
Hi farmer Phil that was a great job with your shad and keep up the good work 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

In fairness a great job 👍
Dig round out side put in drains gravel ?
Its all rented ground and sheds, no point spending crazy money on these things unless you own them. So replacing the slats is handy because its grant spec
Why did he replace the slats if they dont own it? I missed out on a few videos the last while
@lefthandontop426 they were all single slats, and some of them cracked and had falling into the tank. So for a safety and piece of mind they changed them
@@wallm1206 is there a grant available for that?enough for renting land without pumping money into slats
@lefthandontop426 yeah there would be a grant for that especially old and unsafe slats

Great job too old shed phil pity ye didn't empty bottow of tank solid dung with massey digger when old slats were off
Why no agitation poin in middle of shead
Not allowed
Try running a drain away from the shed to a low area
Just throwing it out there to people , can anyone help me with locating a bonnet for McCormick mc115? Can’t be bought new anymore!! Any help greatly appreciated
Why would you put on the slates without fixing the leaks
Yeah I thought so too. When slats are out clean out the tanks and fix leaks when you can see them.
Thought you might have turned the slats upside down for the inside rows of slats!?? Great video 😎
Have you bullocks and bulls in yet ?
Well come ji
Should have dug out what’s left! Probably cause no end of trouble next season slurry!
Ye don't seem to be yerself at the start of the video, hope all is ok
Its early in the morning. He probably nust tired
How much these slats cost each? Are they custom made or standard? Our local concrete plant does all kind of stuff but needs drawings with calculations
Would digging round the outside of the shed then plastering the outside of the wall not hold the water out just a thought not sure if it works.
You should have cleaned out the tank while you had them slats to cut and shove the broom up yer arse an you could have swept the floor at the same time, 🤣😂 only messn, it's all coming together Phil nice one 👍👍
Two 20 ft gates would be easiest and best way to divide those pens
Just saying now But probably should have cleaned the tanks out fully with a digger, when ye had the chance, But look it,

The slate are worth more than the shed, these lads only seem to be interested in stuff that's falling apart and on its last legs
You are describing there the skills of a good rubber duck operator. First class . Can’t beat a good duck
Bout 3 consaw blades to do all them slats should proble run water with it aswel stop the blade going hot
I know you are trying to make use of the shed but it’s hardly worth bothering about because the tanks look very shallow and even after the expense of putting the new slats on if you look up the roof is nearly fucked as well
That's what i thought of it as well. They had the shed on the home farm.Forget about using that shed altogether.
I think he said that restoring the shed was a condition of the rental agreement
@@cathaloc yes something like that
Could you not of cleaned out the pits while you had the Hydrodig? Great video as always Phil 👍
Are you going to put the rubber mats down as well?
Do you think new gutters and down pipes might prevent the soakage of ground water getting into the tanks Phil? 🤔
Simple French drain and soak pit will sort out the field water.
centre wall seems very narrow around six inches wide when it should have been 9 or 10 inches wide . the way it was built the original slats hadnt much bearing on the wall
Hm, it gets nice in the end, agree about that JCB machine!! Impressive..

Is that birds footprints in de slurry tank i can see
Not being smart phil ye doinging a lot off work to an old shed and still be old shed but best off luck with it
As far as I remember, he said that replacing the slats was a condition of the rental agreement
Brilliant job Phil.
Onwards and upwards 👍
Luckily bro didn't measure the slats or he would have got an eaten 😅
Were the walls of the tanks poured concrete or just blocks?
Definitely block

Would a full 20ft slat not have been a better job than 2 tens
The hydradig was under pressure with the short slats. It wasn't going to handle a 20ft slat
@@DanMurphy-w3m the 20ts would have been safer

That shed is a write off! The storage regulations now makes it unjustified to put slats (roof wrecked also) on a shallow tank. Good video though.
not a very useful comment when he's spent the money already
@@davidoleary1922 but sure it’s a fact I wouldn’t put a lot of faith in the central walls!!!! 🤮🤮🤮

Great video Phil. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
13:35 I presume all the work is covered by a grant? If not how can this ever pay to put cattle in there? 😮
Grant available on replacement slats for health and safety
