Please do all us Jeep ZJ guys a favor and put it up against your homeboy's 'vette on the strip. I think that we'd all like to see that race.

I have a 95 5.2 ZJ and an 04 z06. The vette is taking the 5.2. now an older c4 or a c3...yeah I could see it with a good running v8 ZJ. Mines taken out many n/a ricers years ago lol much butt hurt. Intake, exhaust, ignition, built trans with shift kit, tcase swap, and I removed a lot of weight. Back seats, spare tire, 3 skid plates, and hitch.

Sadly, the local strip shut down officially 3 days ago. Vette ran a 12.35. a ZJ with a 408 stroker can do that.

@yz250ftony TFL has a guy with a black C4 and 350 tpi, that I wanted to see the ZJ run. The vette does around 16 +/- at 5000 ft altitude if I remember correctly so the 5.9 should do that if it's running as it should. I also have a '95 ZJ (4.0) with some unconventional factory components on it, and it runs very well indeed so I'm always interested in seeing Jeeps run other vehicles. Keep your ZJ alive and well and enjoy it. Too bad about the dragstrip, a few of ours in Eastern NC have shut down too here lately. Take care man.

@@codered7453 5.9s run 14s I think... it's been a while. 5000'...just add a few seconds. They're all good motors in the ZJ, just depends what you want out of it. There's power options for the 4.0s now. Stroker and turbo kits. My dad bought mine new in 94, it's not leaving the family. I've been in it for most of its 233kmi and it's running fine, no electrical issues. They're pretty solid and resilient

I used to have one with a 3.5" lift on 33" tires. it was a beast with lots of torque. No issue spinning the mud terrains on dry pavement. I'm pretty sure a good tune-up will restore your power.

Everything you see on that jeep down to the chrome tip is all factory, my only gripe is the 249 vicous coupler full time transfer case, mine went out and acts like a part time 4wd that's fully locked and it bucked and binded when going around corners, I swapped mine out for a select Trac 242 with 2wd 4hi part time 4hi full time neutral and 4lo. They come from the factory with 3.73 limited slip rear Dana 44HD, a really nice 10 speaker sound system, unique leather seats, it was a all around practical suv.
Also if you look under the hood at the crankshaft pulley, if it's a one piece design, you have a genuine 5.9L V8. It's externally balanced, the 5.2 has a 2 peice crankshaft pulley and it's internally balanced.
The transmission is a unique set up, it's the same 46RE from the dodge ram, but since it's in a jeep, the starter bolts up on the opposite side, the transmission is pretty stout. I think that's about it,
Oh, they also only made 14,000 of those and I think, maybe 2,000 of them were stone white. So you and I have the rare color ones.

I have an 02 with blend door problems, done a little research so far on fixing it. Seems like a pain and plastic must be cut and then plastic welded back together. Plus the blend doors kinda pricey. If I un hook the battery terminal amd then hook it back up sometimes the heater will start working..the other 98% of the time only the AC works. I took off the glove box to manually change the blend door to get heat and it kind of worked, I get heat out of the driver side and middle vents bit cold air out of the passenger side..? I asume there must be another set of blend doors somwhere. This things great in the summer with ac but winter sucks. Driving with bibs and ski gloves lol.

    Nice Jeep!
The side steps are NOT factory regardless what trim the ZJ is.
As for your climate control, if you want to save some money you could check the side of the center console from the passenger side and somewhere over there you have manually access and change the air from hot to cold and vice versa. Not sure what to look for exactly but it can be done I know that for a fact because I have a 1998 ZJ with the 5.2 and I have the same issue. The car mechanic always switches the temperature for me.

you guys are showing so much love for the ZJ’s and WJ’s lately 🥹🇺🇸 as long as the frame and suspension mounts arent rusted, everything is fixable. I would start by doing an engine tuneup, new plugs, air filter, oil change etc. replace transmission fluid+filter- awesome find Sir, and congrats its a classic! 😎

    I have one.
Its in the shop for a workup/diagnosis of transmission&rear differential issue.
    Something isn't working.
    These are sweet rides.
    I'm glad I own one.
Definitely in about the same mileage and wear range of 200K plus.
Considering sending the motor out for a complete rebuild. New transmission and a complete restoration.
These things are notorious for death wobble.
The 5.9 is definitely a great Motor.
    I'm considering high performance mods.
    Thanks for the video.

I remember this Jeep well. I still have the window sticker somewhere and it was about $50,000 back then. Sticker price that is. I love that Grand Cherokee with the 5.9 definitely has some fun times.

THIS is what I was looking for. Ended up finding my '92 5-speed XJ Laredo. I'd gladly trade for one of these (which I know ain't gonna happen) or at least pull that monster of a motor out and stuff it in my lil box. It's a gorgeous piece overall, and I'm glad you got one!

Great find! Please keep it as original as possible!? Good clean examples are so hard to find! My Deep Slate example, that I purchased in 2000, and still own today (253,000 miles), pulled off a 15.1 second quarter mile...about twenty years ago. Not sure what it would do today!? Haha

Loved mine. You could not get that thing stuck in snow if you wanted. I had snow up to the hood plenty of times and never even slowed it down. This particular one sounds like it definitely needs work, that is the factory exhaust too. The suspension was amazing in these too.

  • @jonathancox2401
    @jonathancox2401 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That is the factory exhaust. Those are great vehicles. Please hold on to it bc they dont make him like that any longer. Great power in a not so bloated suv with low repair cost...a true gem

Anyone throwing shade on this awesome 5.9 powered zj has obviously never driven one. This jeep could pull a stump out of the ground and snap your neck flooring it from a dig. Insane low end power and let’s not forget that it only weighed about 4k pounds, most suvs today weigh at least 500-1k pounds more. You could also get an additional 50 horses easy from the 5.9 with simple bolt-ons. Not to mention the stock exhaust tone was straight metal. One of a kind.

I have a white 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited with 112K miles that I’ve owned for 6 years. Overall I’ve really liked it but will probably be selling it next year due to the fact that I now have too many vehicles and no longer need it. It’s great in the snow and I love the power and sound of the 5.9 but as you’d expect the gas mileage is not so great and the fact that it requires premium fuel. I average 10-11 mpg. I have had to fix a few things on mine over the last 6 years but haven’t had any major problems with it. Most of the issues with mine have been cooling system issues.. mine was nearly rust free when I got it but after being outside the last 5 winter’s the undercarriage has definitely picked up a fair amount of rust as well as the rear hatch, and some minor rust starting on the front fenders.

Bought a 5.2 limited in the mid 2000s from my father in law who purchased new in Denver. Primary use for teen and college drivers in Texas. It was a very cushy driver and I recall was full time AWD/4WD with 2speed transfer case. Great highway cruiser and also capable off road as my son and I took it across the back trails of Big Bend during his junior year spring break. Recall the fit/finish and durability very suspect. Rear differential noisy and ended up needing to be rebuilt. As a 5.2 it seemed faster than the soft suspension was ready for (my daily at the time was a 2002 Mini Cooper S supercharged).

Those particular running boards were a factory option because that thing doesn't have the holes for the sideskirt brackets on the rocker or a piece of trim covering them.
You sound like me a little over five years ago when I found my first 5.9 ZJ... Had another one within 6months.
