Do it and enjoy it. My boss said when I asked, "you only live once".
Last February I picked up a 2004 Corvette with 97k miles for under $14k, at a local-to-me used car lot with a clean title and a decent Carfax report, not perfect, but decent.
Not a garage queen but driven around and enjoyed. It's a nice looking car with bright red paint, red seats, and red carpet, yes lot's of bright torch red. To buy an older Vette like that, there's usually some nice new parts and all the BS stuff that fails has already been fixed. The car had a couple different things fixed that were under open recall that usually will make this car inoperable, by the previous owners.
It's still a "fast car" with a 350hp LS1 aluminum V8, transmission is in the rear of the car so almost 50/50 weight split front to rear. Parts are cheap and the C5 Corvette is known to be fairly reliable with out known major engine or transmission issues and falling apart like some cars do.
Before you buy an older discontinued car model, see what parts are available to fix it.
The C5 Corvette still has a HUGE after market support and parts availabilty for a few more years.

As someone wrote in the comments, the Jeep made 6.9 sec 0-60. 911 3.2 made 6.1 sec 0-62, and take into account that Porsche ALWAYS declares a very conservative time... Having driven a 3.2 911, I can tell you that your launch was a joke, and the car clearly bogged down, with not enough revs. Trying to pamper the old G50, I can get that, but you have to launch that car a lot harder to get close to the times quoted by Porsche, and I know that the 1-2 shift must be done with care, 2-3 is fine though.

This was kinda a lame comparison, a late 90’s vehicle against a late 80’s..?
He notes it’s the 1st gen Grand Cherokee, I’m not even into Cherokees and I’m pretty sure off the top of my head that’s a 3rd gen.
Guy in the Porsche notes that he has a stick, and seems to imply that’s an advantage in a 1/4 mile drag. Drag racing 101 will tell u an automatic is definitely a benefit, especially in street cars.
The Porsche has nothing going for it. It’s an 80’s flat boxer, naturally aspirated, standard shift, in an over weight convertible chassis. Aside from it saying Porsche on it, it’s kinda a show boat slug. You’d been better off putting any turbo Subaru from the 90’s against that Dodge 360ci.
This is equivalent to racing a Miata from the 90’s against a new Honda Odyssey mini van. I’ve got $20 on the van
