Princes solo on this tune nobody can talk bad about, but as soon as it was done I thought, now who else could do a rendition of this song and do it justice after that, immediately I went to Phish, because I know how Trey can rip a guitar solo on a good day….. and Phish’s rendition of this tune rips as well!….
Phish was one of the greatest bands ever at this point in time. They were practicing hours & hours everyday. Anyone ripping them is obviously an idiot &/or has never touched an instrument in their life.
@@lefthooklansing not a chance bro. The best player of all time wouldn't need 968 pedals. I love Trey, I put him like top 10 all time but you are nuts if you put him above Zappa and Hendrix. I'm not even gonna get started about Wes Montgomery and John McLaughlin. Jimmy Herring is on Trey's level, too. Trey is a God tho. No doubt.
In this and divided sky, treys overly large shirt and mushroom like hair almost make him look like some sort of mystical guitar playing creature that is not of this earth
Pretty amusing thread. Seriously, though..TA is completely nuts on this song - out of some 50+ pitch bends about 98% of them are pitch perfect for their 1/10-second life while he's already on the way to another note. And most likely the ones that aren't spot on were his way of honoring Clapton's goofy original solo.
I've seen these boys a handful of times. Never had a bad time. Seen The Dead, Widespread, Floyd, Page/ Plant, Cheese.. and many, many others. I asked my best friend once who the greatest band was of all time and he said, " Nobody grabs you by your spine like Phish, even when they cover the great ones.... Nobody." Thats why he's my best friend.
@@fsmdanimal this is the ultimate example of a post made by someone who just got seduced by a band. Irrational, exaggerated, misguided, etc. I bet you don't still feel that way lol.
Treys ability to glide seemlessly from antonal figues into a natural progression with 1 measure in between. Back and forth the sways to and from each of these, with grace of the wind. Magic.
Man...1994 - I was at this show, and it's a standout musical memory. When they started the White Album...indescribable... Red Rocks, The Warfield, two complete Gamehendge saga shows, the Fox Theater in Atlanta, the New Years run... WOW!!!--- While My Guitar Gently Weeps is one of my favorite Beatles songs, and to hear Phish play it!!! The 90's in my opinion, were the best Phish years. I have a recording of Phish covering the White Album but this is an awesome performance.
I never post. Never. But I saw Phish play this song in Portland, OR in 94? 95? and I literally wept. Never been moved by a song in the moment like that. Incredible
Daniel Bellon I believe the rumor was stolen from Jerry. At least that’s the one I heard. Backstage at a Dead show summer ‘94 where Trey or a couple of his friends somehow snatched one of Garcia’s black tees and left some Phish music in his dressing room. There’s no way it’s true. If that was true, Trey definitely would’ve told us by now.
hmmmm - i've never heard anyone say it was played note for note. you don't even need to be a musician to tell they are missing/flubbing notes left and right.
Great song covered well here, and by other many talented artists. There is a Prince cover from George Harrison's induction at the RRHOF that is really amazing. He's on stage with some real A-list guitarists (Jeff Beck, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne) who all seemed as awe-struck as everybody else at Prince shredding this like he did.
@@bcp5296d Agree. Prince was as much of a showman as he was a musician a rare talent by any measure. I'm an old guy so I kinda' out of the Phish demograhic. I know they are beloved like few other bands are today. A few years ago we were driving out of Florida when I think Phish agreed to hold over at Zephyrhills for a couple of extra nights. I-75 was jammed for miles with people trying to get to the extra shows.
enough...cant compare the two versions, but this is just ridiculous....and to say you know millions of guitarists better than this guy....simply not possible!! And if you wanna talk about guys being recognized...you have no idea wht he has done for music since the early 90's....go listen to the white album, Ill watch this any day....
Certainly not average. Geetar im assuming you play because of your name, but you clearly dont know much about live playing if you think a million guys can play better than him. Go check out the Reba from this show also.
@TheSuperwest36 with music like this and the beatles and clapton, there are no comparisons of quality, only heart and soul as well as mutual respect. i think they do it different, but not necesarily better. But hey, it's Phish and it's kickass. can I get a thumbs
Trey takes it to "11!" While my Ukraine not so gently weeps! Trey in the final 4, Cinderella guitar...shredding, pleading, bending, playin with abandon, freedom rocks from deep! Drums, bass & back up flowing with the current! Phish out of water!

SO excited for festival 8. (The musical nature & language of phish is universal! bring your costume :)
phish will play an entire album front to back on Halloween sets, this being said if they don't do a perfect job on a particular album, who cares. If I hear a phish cover it's most likely not going to do the song any justice I would have loved to see them play this album, my favorite band playing an awesome beatles album.
Everybody who's anybody in the guitar world has played "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" to showcase their chops. Trey might possibly have the best vibrato I've ever heard. John Norum and Steve Rothery might be better, but it's subjective. Overall impression: Good guitar player, but not elite. This was actually my first time hearing him, so maybe this isn't a good representation of his entire body of work.

Both were very swell so
Gary moore mite have the best but this is the closest!!

Most underrated guitarist of all time. He's a straight beast and gets no respect because Phish is so goofy.
