Toby: "I feel so bad about him talking to himself all the time. He just walks around the Farm, blabbing on about nothing. I just wag my tail, and watch over the flock. Poor guy."
No reason to feel sorry for Toby being outside all the time. He gets to live like a true alpha, ruling over his kingdom, with a huge territory to patrol and walk. He's living the dream of every dog.
I always love the times when Pablo shares Toby's food and while Toby rightfully brushes the geese away, he's fine sharing his space and food with his apparent best bro xD
He’s a working dog and he likes to work. Dogs do like to have a purpose and be needed. Toby dog, thanks to you is a well adjusted dog. May you please take care and stay safe.
Absolutely true! Good catch. I was watching this on biggeekdad and when he "released the quackin" I came here to get a date for the video. Sure enough, he's making a statement.
This is like half of the channels I subscribe to on yt. So many I never had an interest in where the yt algorithm suggested it and I said uh okay let’s check this weird thing out....oh oh my god thus is entertaining
Toby really gets into his job. You can see him watching the flock and scanning the area for intruders. I always assumed he'd just lay around until he heard something. Pretty smart dog.
I live in overcrowded California,,,,and I watch to virtually get away for a while and I find it enjoyable, informative, and I appreciate the care taken for all the animals,,,,plus,,,Morgan is a nice, decent person
Toby is the star of this channel for me. I respect that you treat Toby with love and affection but without pampering him, in line with his nature and his 'work'. I'm glad YT recommended this channel a few months back.
Toby is lucky to have owners that care for him and understand him as a breed. You’ve done a great job with him, Morgan. Ps...I saw that pond filled up!
I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Toby come into his own. We love watching him serious and watching him dopey. This is really a channel that I can leave on and leave the room, with the entire family watching, and I want to thank you for that. I personally know what goes in to making a TH-cam video and for that I want to thank you also. Jimmy
I have been a dog man my whole life I've had dogs since I was old enough to remember four or five the best thing you can ever do to a dog when you're training them is praise them put your face right up to theirs tell them good boy kiss them on the face and nose and tell them good boy and when you don't like an attitude that they portray say no no no three times and raise your voice and that's generally all it takes. Thank you for your videos that are magnificent
I can't wait until Toby gets a friend to hang out with and help him with his guard duties. I have Stella which is a great Pyrenees mix and she is a great dog very independent very stubborn very lovable.
Absolutely beautiful dog. We had a Rotweiller/Border Collie mix that needed no training whatsoever to guard our chickens and ducks. She hung out with them all day and we never lost one to stray dogs, coyotes or any of the other critters around here.
Toby looks like the happiest dog on earth to me. Thank you for addressing the barking issue. I understand that a bird farm is already noisy but a commanding bark on top of a rooster on top of geese, etc, its a factor.
Believe me, as someone who has a Great Pyrenees who is an indoor dog, they would much prefer to be outside, unless it is super hot out, then they love nothing more than to lay right under the vent for the AC. My guardian dog right now is to guard my grandchildren and the other dogs and myself. She does a wonderful job. :)
i can't tell you how much i appreciate how much research you've done, unlike all the pet owners who buy inbred poodles from pet stores and think they come preprogrammed with tricks
I love your approach to training Toby, my family raised cattle dogs for years, and I always found that a stern word goes farther than a blow to the dog, and at the end of the day it only makes your dog afraid of you. In my personal experience training dogs I’ve always found it’s far easier to train a dog to start a new behavior than to stop a negative one. I used to have this one dog who would always lose his mind barking when we brought him food, and instead of scolding him for barking I trained him to go grab his favorite chew toy and bring it to me before I would give him his food so he couldn’t bark with the toy in his mouth, and he’d go right to eating after dropping it in my hand, I think you did an amazing job training Toby he’s an incredibly calm and competent guard dog
I honestly love ducks and geese and I've been watching this channel ever since I found it which was 5 months ago and its honestly one of the best channels so thank you sir for the content😎
Roll over command really comes in handy when I want to check/clean ears, look at paws, belly, or when grooming my 50 pound dog. You and Toby have done a great job training to be a mellow, attentive, protective guardian dog and friend to you and Pablo.
Toby is totally cool. My three send kudos. Go Toby! We manage a 400 protected preserve here so lots of predators. The homestead part is only about twenty acres. Ours are invaluable. BRAVO! Nice segment this morning.
Toby is an amazing dog for the farm. I feel so proud watching him in action and the great job you've done with him and it's nice that you can walk us through some of his life and his role on the farm. My Molly is an Old English Sheepdog puppy and she's 6 months old. I'm still in the process of training her to behave with the ducks. The chickens she's fine, but the ducks get loud and start to run and fly away from her...then of course she chases. Work in progress, but these things don't happen overnight. Toby is a dog that Molly can look up to. Sheepdogs are amazingly instinctive and Molly herds me all the time. Absolutely love this video Morgan.
Toby's on his way to becoming a great work dog and friend thanks to you, Morgan. I appreciate the diligence you put into research and your own training to be a good dog owner. Often people get a dog or other animal and never think of how they have to control or change their own behavior. That makes it really hard for the animal to understand and learn. Considering this is your first "student," I'm sure it was difficult not to spoil him. I'm impressed with how Toby appears to be developing into a valuable asset. You deserve a "teacher (trainer) of the year" award!
One thing I have to say about turkeys. If he get the heritage breeds he'll have to clip their wings or fence them in. I raise turkeys, chicken and ducks and turkeys are the worse. I will not raise the butterball turkeys only have raise heritage and have lost so many from them flying over to fence
@Confined Space I own and raise turkeys myself. They have a high mortality rate when young. Once they get to about week 3 they will mostly in the clear. Once adults they can be both awsome and butt holes.
Toby is such an awesome dog, and your excellent training really shines when you see Toby asserting himself with body language with the birds instead of barking at them or going after them. It can be tough, especially with aggressive birds, but Toby is perfect!
0:31 Got a pinky and the brain vibe there. Human: "Hey Toby Dog, Whats the first thing we do every morning?" Toby Dog: "Ah Gee Human... What do we do first thing every morning?" Human: "The same thing we do every morning Toby-Dog, We Release the Quakin!"
Toby is giving the geese his "not now" look. I am just waiting for the Pablo and Toby adventures around the farm (in a Charlotte's Web style for TV). Give Toby one good scratch behind the ears from me.
I can’t stand how adorable Toby is. When I meditate and go to my “safe place” it’s in the woods with a white fluffy dog like him and zi feel so loved and protected. I’m absolutely in love with that chill boy ❤️
Morgan, Bob and I really enjoyed this video. Wonderful to be able to watch how your farm is growing. What a wonderful place.Congrats!!! Lorraine & Bob McElroy

Toby: "I feel so bad about him talking to himself all the time. He just walks around the Farm, blabbing on about nothing. I just wag my tail, and watch over the flock. Poor guy."
Yeah, his human is crazy, thinks we are real.
The look at "Release the Quaken!"
Oh god please make him stop.
Are you serious? I have to call my 2 pyrenees to come inside to eat. They love the outdoors except when it's really hot.
No reason to feel sorry for Toby being outside all the time. He gets to live like a true alpha, ruling over his kingdom, with a huge territory to patrol and walk. He's living the dream of every dog.
Without female dogs and reproduction, but otherwise a beautiful life for dogs of his breed.
They are happiest when working. This is a dream for livestock guardians.
Agree my Maremma spent his 14 years outside, we made him a fairly large place to rest and he would get in there only when raining and snowing.
only way it could be better for him would be with another female dog or two
My dog would love to just rule my neighbor and keep all the rabbits safe and fed. Different story for birds and squirrels though...
I always love the times when Pablo shares Toby's food and while Toby rightfully brushes the geese away, he's fine sharing his space and food with his apparent best bro xD

Toby is a very good boy.

I love how the subtitles label the goose honking noises as “Applause”
I don’t have an interest in farming really in any form yet I love Gold Shaw Farm videos. It’s his attitude.
He is a good storyteller
The moment he said "not just listen to one dude on the internet on how to make your important life decisions", he won my heart and my like. :)

this must be such an awesome life for a dog. You get fulfillment having a job to do, pleasing your master, whilst being completely free outdoors
Toby is worth much more than an iphone. So cute, him and his siblings following their mum around the farm when they were little.
I love that you got Toby out of necessity, yet clearly you love him and he loves you. You're lucky to have found each other.
I think what you hit on here is that spending a lot of time with a puppy is important.
The literal definition of a good boy
Predators trying to get to the ducks: "Why do I hear boss music?"
"Its fine we were grinding this area last year its totally safe"
they're probably more scared of the geese.

someone's probably already said this, but for chickens: Unlock the Flock

He's so fluffy! Wish I could squish him myself.
Spent two months in Nepal, and every substantial home had a guardian dog that did exactly what Toby does.
Toby dog is magnificent!! Amazing that Pablo shares food dish...finally friends.
Specially as Maremma's are known to be one of the more food aggressive breeds. It shows how well socialized he is that he isn't.
