Can confirm crows are awesome. Have seen them fight off hawks high above my yard and throughout the city I live in. If you can tempt them to stay, they'd be a serious asset against birds of prey.

100% agreed. Will take some work though. Never tried it myself

@@thehappychickencoop6460 Pretty sure they'd know you're a friend if you give them food, but the closest the local crows ever came to my yard was about 20 feet in the air, and they fled before I could show them food.

I actually have 12 back yard chicken and about 6 months ago I saw crows coming to eat at the property, so I've been feeding them twice a day, bread, raw peanuts and popcorn for.the last 6months and I haven't seen one single hawk around my property. Before that it was weekly sighting.
Crows are phenomenal. There's about 15 that Come daily to the property

I have a great Pyrenees mix and he protects my flock at night. He is out from dusk to dawn. He spends his day in and out of the house. Its his time off. But at night he's all business. He has run out a couple possums this fall. We have a couple fox around but I never see them but neighbors have. My dog is 10 and about ready to retire. So now I have to find another Pyrenees to train.

Snicker, my parents had chickens back in my teen years and I laid claim to the rooster…
He was the only rooster and the largest bird in the flock, he also took his guard duties very seriously and tolerated humans around.
I named him Foghorn Leghorn after the looney tunes character as he reminded me of him…
Raccoons eventually got to him as they did the rest of the flock, but he didn’t go down without a fight as dad found lots of feathers around when he checked the coop in the morning…
The raccoon broke in through a weak spot in the floor, something that we should have prepared for…

Helpful, thank you. Im considering Great pyr, but didnt know about that polish breed which seems nice. I did notice that about the crows, and, disease potential notwithstanding, I think I will attract crows and blue jays. Ive never had a rooster that can deter ground predators, or even hawks very well, but maybe I never had the right one.
