Only sided with the Maelstrom on my very first playthrough as a Streetkid. On my second playthrough as a Nomad, you will learned that HE IS the actual mole. Never again I have sided with him after that, also the most OP melee weapon makes it all worth it.
i diden't give a shit who the mole was, i sided with royce because maelstrom were my favourite gang and i diden't like stout. and if i freed brick i thought there'd be a possibilitie he'd take the reigns back from royce. i was a nomad too but i did just to shit in militech shoes.
Depending on who you side with in this mission, it'll drastically change another mission: There's a mission where you gotta save a reporter who went in to interview the Maelstrom gang. - If Royce is alive you'll get a funny conversation with Dum Dum and a lukewarm one with Royce. You leave on decent terms and gotta covertly help the reporter smuggle out some data. - If Royce is dead, so is Dum Dum. The Maelstrom gang is then under new management, some trigger happy chick, and you'll find the reporter tied to a chair getting tortured. You'll kill this new leader chick too and have a shoot-out to rescue the reporter.
The best outcome in general is where you take the chip, get the viruses off it, then shoot Royce in the stand-off, then save Brick. Reasons why? Meredith is only being a dick to you because this is night city and she’s in a life or death situation, the mole is the person she captured and Royce’s gang is literally one of the major reasons Night City is a hellhole. Do enough side missions and Maelstrom is literally the most evil gang you can find. They’re involved with Jotaro for example, and all the other gangs have actual motivations(besides the Tyger Claws who are just as bad). 6th street acts as actual effective police, Padre’s Valentino gang has actual morals, and the Aldecado Nomads only really target Corpo convoys. Dum Dum and Brick are literally the only ones with a shred of decency and only because they’re charismatic enough to not fuck over people who are directly dealing with them. Royce is essentially what the average Maelstromer is like. Meredith’s a total ass but it’s really because her life was in danger and she’s was in attack mode the entire time. Gilchrist is a snake.
But apparently if you leave Dum Dum alive you can smoke him later at the Totentanz mission and get possibly the best handgun in the game called doom doom.
Also, if you help her out, she literally rewards you with sex, and say what you will about corpos, but that woman was SMOKING hot when you come to collect. Heh heh. Come. God I'm lame, lol
I did this route on accident, decrypted the card, and the music intensity on my 3rd playthrough when i screwed up. I was like HOLY shiiiii, i didn't even know i could do this. Then i stopped playing, because no one was taking damage
if you go with militech, there’s a room where you can access a computer and learn who the real rat was, if you tell stout about that you get some rewards in your apartment, i got a legendary armored vest and assault rifle.
It still blows my mind people stand by pushing Cyberpunk to release early. This game could have lived up to all the hype, but the fans got all pissy instead.

If massive amounts of people never complained in the first place, the investors wouldn't be as discouraged and even given the opportunity for early reimbursement with pre-orders. But that's a reality that never happened.

First time I played the game (right at launch), only got a bit past this mission before I dropped the game. Playing sneaky, diplomatic, relatively non-lethal. Started playing recently again 'cuz of Edgerunners, decided I didn't like the attitude of Maelstrom and figured I'd go guns blazing. Shotgun applied directly to the face of the first Maelstrom I could once their doors opened. Has been a fun playthrough so far. XD
Yep.. maelstorms really seem to have this trait of barking out loud and acting as if no one can hummble them. Too bad that i like their aesthetics the most but they re too stupid to be tolerated..
[spoilers] First playthrough I killed Royce and saved Brick. Met Brick with Nancy. Second playthrough I helped Royce. Met Royce with Nancy. Third playthrough (aka the mayhem playthrough) I killed both Royce and Brink for shits and giggles. Met a lovely lady named Patty. Gave her and all of Totentanz the same treatment. Good times…
Leaving them alive also opens up a vendor in this location too. I've heard sometimes the vendor can still pop up but I think that's a bug. Also when you go this route you can find Stouts dead body in the river somewhere (can't remember the exact location tho)
If I recall, it is at the end of the spillway you meet up with her before going into the factory (if you do the optional meetup). She is in the water with some cement shoes on.
You also see Royce later on, when you go to the Maelstrom club to recruit Bess Isis for Kerry. He's a lot more interesting as a character than Brick is, and possesses a mind for music theory. He's still a gonked out borg, though, so he gets two in the chest and one in the head.
That really should have been the option for Maelstrom related cybermods and maybe even membership for someone with a non corporate background, but at least it still is something modern can work with.

I find it real annoying how he claims you never said you sent ya, but literally when you interact with the intercom at the beginning of this mission to get let inside you have the option to tell them dexter sent ya. Even if you tell them that he still gives this line smh.
Royce looks like he was busy jacked into something, probably a braindance, when Dum Dum is busy with you. So Dum Dum knows Dex sent you, but never got the chance to tell Royce because he was busy.
Fun fact, if you pay him without meeting Meredith, you walk out with DumDum without fighting anyone and he has a long convo with you and Jackie. At the end he says he likes you but the Malestrom don’t do repeat biz. You also have the option to kill Royce once he insults you.
Fun fact, if you took a hit of DumDum's inhaler, or took the streetkid option during the negotiations, he'll gift it to you on this route at the end. it's a single use consumable that grants you ten armor.
Yeah most are. The missions in Cyberpunk are legendarily good, thats why it won the Steam story award and was such a nice change of pace from most recent games.

I think that they put so much effort on the possibilities of this very specific quest and not so much on any other one, no wonder why they were showing this one again and again with different outcomes
This mission is really the only one that is what Cyberpunk promised, which is multiple options, multiple characters with branching dialog paths (although I notice here there's sadly no significant dialog if you wiped the virus off), multiple paths out of this mission, as well as some consequences down the line (although those are too minor for how significant this interaction is).

Outside of the ending nobody gives a shit about your actions in nightcity and it has so many strange gameplay decisions and so many flaws that even after all the bugs have been fixed it is just as mediocre as a game can get
i did this as my first playthrough which is still my current one, not knowing anything about these guys i just figured it was the best option as i clearly didnt have the eddies for it didnt think so many people wouldnt have
During my first ever playthrough of Cyberpunk I accidentally wiped the virus from the Eddie chip given to me from the corpo woman, so when it came time to give Maelstrom the chip I could pretend as if I was on their side and managed to get through this mission without a shootout
first playthrough i took this route thinking it was the safest to get us out alive (favour for favour) but then i exited the building and saw meredith was dead and replaced so i felt bad
If you tell me they would have needed 5 more years in development BUT every mision would have had this depth and variability I would have waited WITHOUT A DOUBT and WITHOUT A WHIM, very very sad that this is literally the only mission with actual roleplay and decision making.
Plenty missions are like this in the game, most are gigs even. Crucifying the inmate Everything Panam Judy x Maiko and the Tyger Claws Tarot across the city River and serial killer. etc
Wow this is the path i went with in my first and only playthrough. Didn't realize that poeple usually picked the other option. Honestly the guy just seemed too big and scary for me to fight, so i just tried avoiding it lmao
didn't know this quest had so many branches, I'm only on my 2nd playthrough, but both times I attacked Maelstrom, and first time I didn't even know about the chip. Guess I gotta try not selecting any options with those timed responses...
In my first playthrough, I tried the pacifist route where I won't have to shoot my way out of everything. Worked in the most part except for the Voodoos. Had to kill all of them since I sided with the corpo.
So if go this way, the player will lost the chance to get Sir John Phallustiff, but since dum dum alive, i guess you still can get doom doom at second conflict mission？
Also when you hack the chip if you create a copy of the virus instead of removing it you will create a copy of the chip so after the mission you will have the chip for the rest of the game and if you choose to do this when you have the option to pay you will have two options You can choose to pay without saying anything about the virus or tell Royce about the virus and he will give the chip to the netrunner and he will remove it
I got this by accident because i was too slow to press attack royce lol but how does it change if dum dum dies? cuz he for me died in that big garage with 2 robots.... didnt know a grenade can easily 1 hit kill them

Combined with skipping a hard mission if you free Brick too, AND the OP kill-do from Meredith to boot? It's probably the best possible outcome. There's a free legendary Pulsar way later if you make Brick dead too, but he's an upstanding guy so...
God dammit. I always pick one of the choices when the timer bar runs along because I keep thinking he shoots you if you don't pick something. You're telling me, this WHOLE time, there were more branching paths from NOT doing anything? Guess I'll do ANOTHER playthrough
For all the flak this game gets, CDPR doesn't get enough credit for their top-tier writing. This scenario can play out completely different, each with separate side quests later on and in this one, though you don't get to save Brick (You wouldn't even know that Royce betrayed him and locked him up), you still manage to unknowingly save someone else instead (This guy).
Cyberpunk 2077 has always been good as far as writing and world building goes. They unfortunately pushed the game too quickly where the mechanics of the game was severely lacking against what they promised and far too many corners were cut. Now the game is currently looking a far cry improved from what it was when it was released in 2020. Still is not what I would consider the game SHOULD have launched at, but had it released like it is now in 1.6 it would not have been as infamous and would not have hurt CD Projekt's reputation as harshly as it did. I have finally started my second playthrough of the game. Still Corpo, because I feel I missed a lot and my build was not focused enough. I will say that you do get to know that Royce took over management of Maelstrom and to my ears that immediately sounds like betrayal in Cyberpunk 2077's world. I never assumed anything else and I did free Brick in my first playthrough as well.
@✪Hidden 100%. It's also a lot different from the Witcher series which they've had over a decade's worth world building for and books to use as reference.
I just wanna point out, that in fact you do know that Royce took command over Brick, and you can save him in both paths. When Dexter is giving you the quest he tells you so. In fact, that's the whole point of the quest. Because Dexter already had made the deal with Brick, but now with Brick off the table, he sent you to deal with Royce and retrieve the flathead. Also, "this guy" is a fukin snake, don't believe him. He's the actual mole.
I did this when the game first came out, posted about it on Reddit, and someone accused me of lying about it. This game really out here creating every scenario.
Picked those options exactly, and it didn't work out this way. Not sure if this is possible anymore. When I picked the same options, my character doesn't tell him about the hacked card. He just plugs it in and then alarms go off, and everyone starts shooting.
Fun fact, the only reason this mission was so fleshed out with so many endings is because CDPR used it in alot of marketing to give the impression all the games questlines followed this standard of quality, sadly it was a complete and blatant lie.

First playthrough I removed the virus but kept the chip. At the end of the mission I didn't get the 10,000 eddies for myself though :( Wondering if it was early release jank or you just don't get the money despite obviously trying to keep it.
You know, I never actually cut the deal with Maelstrom in this game. I just KOed Royce (he's an asshole) and took the flathead that way. Once I went with militech and another time no. I'm gonna try it the next time with no militech and paying twice, just to see what'll happen.
Yeah, normally go down the line of blowing Royce's head off, chewing through his goons and saving Brick. Get to keep the Militech eddies and hook up with Meredith at the 'No Tell Motel' later. Screwing Militech twice on one mission, pretty sweet gig.
I sided with him on my first playthrough, since I was roleplaying a corpo "Smooth and sneaky" type character that was avoiding conflict as much as possible. Now I know that he has a sweet melee weapon so I won't be siding with him next time
From what I have experienced, there are a couple more like this, but nothing compared to what they promised in their pre-launch trailers and demos. I think we all wish the game would have been full of this level of choice.
@@thestreetkid I'd wager they did, too. But they came up with a project way WAY out of scope for their team. They didn't want to realize it until it was too late, and then they had to take an axe to it to get it through the door. Most people at the studio are likely as bummed as most of the players are/were. I'm curious just how much more they'll continue to patch it; add new content.

People are in denial when they say 'oh if the DLC will sell well, they'll make more' - It won't sell well when it's not going to come out on tens of millions of ps4 & xbox ones of wich there are >10x than ps5&X/S. They'll have a hard time releasing anthing new on PSN as they force Sony to handle refunds again (this time for people that paid for versions that included planned expansions).
I actually did this on my first playthrough, difference being I had pulled my gun on him because I didn't have any other options that would continue (didn't think about waiting as a possibility) I also didn't think about there being a virus I just saw "Oh, I can hack this, why not" so It was just a bunch of dumb luck

Yeah most are. The missions in Cyberpunk are legendarily good, thats why it won the Steam story award and was such a nice change of pace from most recent games.

@@lehtokurppa7824 the story was amazing sure, but as for missions go this is one of the best with the most choices you're able to make (that actually affect the mission) I enjoy the game but the missions get very linear after this

There is also a side quest that makes getting in alot easier a a cool dialogue option as well later in the game

I think that they put so much effort on the possibilities of this very specific quest and not so much on any other one, no wonder why they were showing this one again and again with different outcomes
This mission is really the only one that is what Cyberpunk promised, which is multiple options, multiple characters with branching dialog paths (although I notice here there's sadly no significant dialog if you wiped the virus off), multiple paths out of this mission, as well as some consequences down the line (although those are too minor for how significant this interaction is).

@@sladerzrzz9883 yes because it's the fucking ending. New Vegas managed to give you atleast 3 options in almost every quest in the game while this game just has a lot of boring filler in it. Outside of the ending nobody gives a shit about your actions in nightcity and it has so many strange gameplay decisions and so many flaws that even after all the bugs have been fixed it is just as mediocre as a game can get

During my first ever playthrough of Cyberpunk I accidentally wiped the virus from the Eddie chip given to me from the corpo woman, so when it came time to give Maelstrom the chip I could pretend as if I was on their side and managed to get through this mission without a shootout
first playthrough i took this route thinking it was the safest to get us out alive (favour for favour) but then i exited the building and saw meredith was dead and replaced so i felt bad
I've played this game 5 times working on 6, and I WILL NEVER help these guys. They're absolute monsters.

If you tell me they would have needed 5 more years in development BUT every mision would have had this depth and variability I would have waited WITHOUT A DOUBT and WITHOUT A WHIM, very very sad that this is literally the only mission with actual roleplay and decision making.
Plenty missions are like this in the game, most are gigs even.

Wow this is the path i went with in my first and only playthrough. Didn't realize that poeple usually picked the other option. Honestly the guy just seemed too big and scary for me to fight, so i just tried avoiding it lmao

didn't know this quest had so many branches, I'm only on my 2nd playthrough, but both times I attacked Maelstrom, and first time I didn't even know about the chip. Guess I gotta try not selecting any options with those timed responses...
In my first playthrough, I tried the pacifist route where I won't have to shoot my way out of everything. Worked in the most part except for the Voodoos. Had to kill all of them since I sided with the corpo.
I actually take down the Netwatch agent just so I can shoot all the Voodoo Boys myself. Blasting Mama Brigiite is so satisfying.
Went this path, nobody punches me in the face and gets away with it.

Damn, I didn't realize you could just let the timer go out on the "Draw gun" option.
Also when you hack the chip if you create a copy of the virus instead of removing it you will create a copy of the chip so after the mission you will have the chip for the rest of the game and if you choose to do this when you have the option to pay you will have two options
You can choose to pay without saying anything about the virus or tell Royce about the virus and he will give the chip to the netrunner and he will remove it

@@namekiz3199 It is also just a good gun that early, especially if you rolled a bad Unity as your starter. Combined with skipping a hard mission if you free Brick too, AND the OP kill-do from Meredith to boot? It's probably the best possible outcome. There's a free legendary Pulsar way later if you make Brick dead too, but he's an upstanding guy so...

God dammit. I always pick one of the choices when the timer bar runs along because I keep thinking he shoots you if you don't pick something. You're telling me, this WHOLE time, there were more branching paths from NOT doing anything? Guess I'll do ANOTHER playthrough
For all the flak this game gets, CDPR doesn't get enough credit for their top-tier writing. This scenario can play out completely different, each with separate side quests later on and in this one, though you don't get to save Brick (You wouldn't even know that Royce betrayed him and locked him up), you still manage to unknowingly save someone else instead (This guy).
Cyberpunk 2077 has always been good as far as writing and world building goes. They unfortunately pushed the game too quickly where the mechanics of the game was severely lacking against what they promised and far too many corners were cut. Now the game is currently looking a far cry improved from what it was when it was released in 2020. Still is not what I would consider the game SHOULD have launched at, but had it released like it is now in 1.6 it would not have been as infamous and would not have hurt CD Projekt's reputation as harshly as it did.
I have finally started my second playthrough of the game. Still Corpo, because I feel I missed a lot and my build was not focused enough. I will say that you do get to know that Royce took over management of Maelstrom and to my ears that immediately sounds like betrayal in Cyberpunk 2077's world. I never assumed anything else and I did free Brick in my first playthrough as well.
This is one of the only quests that can play out differently in a tangible way though.

I just wanna point out, that in fact you do know that Royce took command over Brick, and you can save him in both paths.
When Dexter is giving you the quest he tells you so. In fact, that's the whole point of the quest.
Because Dexter already had made the deal with Brick, but now with Brick off the table, he sent you to deal with Royce and retrieve the flathead.
Also, "this guy" is a fukin snake, don't believe him. He's the actual mole.
tried siding with them on my first playthrough, but kept getting softlocked after fighting the big mech guys.
you can only use the inhaler you get from dumdum once which is kinda meh... as far as i know you cant spawn it with console cammands either

This game really out here creating every scenario.
Not even this *quest* has every scenario. And it's the only quest that has any real variation.
Games like this is why im glad Rocksteady takes centuries to put out just one. Im still playing Rdr1 and 2 and gta 5
Picked those options exactly, and it didn't work out this way. Not sure if this is possible anymore. When I picked the same options, my character doesn't tell him about the hacked card. He just plugs it in and then alarms go off, and everyone starts shooting.

Fun fact, the only reason this mission was so fleshed out with so many endings is because CDPR used it in alot of marketing to give the impression all the games questlines followed this standard of quality, sadly it was a complete and blatant lie.
Not to defend such tricks, but it's pretty common - you can often get a sense of the "presentation mission" in many a game

First playthrough I removed the virus but kept the chip. At the end of the mission I didn't get the 10,000 eddies for myself though :(

You can get the 10,000. You have to look at the shard in your inventory after leaving the all foods factory.
You know, I never actually cut the deal with Maelstrom in this game. I just KOed Royce (he's an asshole) and took the flathead that way. Once I went with militech and another time no.
I'm gonna try it the next time with no militech and paying twice, just to see what'll happen.

If you don't call Stout at all and just went straight to Royce and paid him twice, you will unlock the Maelstrom gun vendor.
You'll lost a change to get two iconic items if you do not kill kim, and take the money from stout
So sad that only few missions in CP2077 are like that one they used as demo =(

In the endgame chippin in subquest, you see dumdum and royce again to save nancy easily.
This can actually have some interesting results after this, There’s a side quest where you meet back up with these guys since they survive
Or If You Save Brick, The Maelstrom Guy With the Explosive Collar. He Replaces Royce, Assuming you Followed Through with Stout.
The moment I got there I just started shooting, didn't even get to talk.
If it isn't blindingly obvious, Gilcrest is the mole. If you do some snooping on the terminals in All Foods, you find some incriminating emails.
My game bugged and I couldn't take the elevator up. So I had to kill the maelstrom people in the main production room smh

Wow, I'm glad I killed Royce and freed Brick in all 3 of my playthroughs.
Yeah, normally go down the line of blowing Royce's head off, chewing through his goons and saving Brick. Get to keep the Militech eddies and hook up with Meredith at the 'No Tell Motel' later. Screwing Militech twice on one mission, pretty sweet gig.

I despise the Maelstrom, bit I have to admit it's kinda cool getting to fight woth them against militech..
I sided with him on my first playthrough, since I was roleplaying a corpo "Smooth and sneaky" type character that was avoiding conflict as much as possible. Now I know that he has a sweet melee weapon so I won't be siding with him next time
So this one where you really have the choice of your path, but what about the other missions?

From what I have experienced, there are a couple more like this, but nothing compared to what they promised in their pre-launch trailers and demos. I think we all wish the game would have been full of this level of choice.
@@thestreetkid I'd wager they did, too. But they came up with a project way WAY out of scope for their team. They didn't want to realize it until it was too late, and then they had to take an axe to it to get it through the door. Most people at the studio are likely as bummed as most of the players are/were. I'm curious just how much more they'll continue to patch it; add new content.

@@darksunrise957 Prolly for ~1 year after the one confirmed DLC, then it's off to the pastures (mantainance mode) while they sell Cyberpunk the boardgame in Unreal Engine.
People are in denial when they say 'oh if the DLC will sell well, they'll make more' - It won't sell well when it's not going to come out on tens of millions of ps4 & xbox ones of wich there are >10x than ps5&X/S.
They'll have a hard time releasing anthing new on PSN as they force Sony to handle refunds again (this time for people that paid for versions that included planned expansions).
This game was so unremarkable.

I actually did this on my first playthrough, difference being I had pulled my gun on him because I didn't have any other options that would continue (didn't think about waiting as a possibility) I also didn't think about there being a virus I just saw "Oh, I can hack this, why not" so It was just a bunch of dumb luck
