Parts of Berkeley have alarms. They started ringing like 5 minutes after we got the text alert, scared the shit out of everyone in our office and everyone evacuated.
I don't live in dan Francisco but my sister does and she called after she got the alert She said she was at this touristic spot with her husband, just taking a stroll until their car gets looked at, and all of a sudden every single person there got the alert at the same time, she saud it resembled a movie scene where loud noises come from people purses and pockets at the same time then they all check and read the alert She didnt even notice people's reaction as her husband and her were thinking about their son at school
This is a reminder for everybody along the Pacific Coast the potential for a tsunami is still present and today's offshore earthquake has proven just that. Just like any disaster to be prepared the same applies to a tsunami. I remember the San Simeon earthquake that shook offshore on the Central Coast almost 21 years ago. It was a 6.4. It was a reminder to be ready for both earthquakes and tsunamis. The same goes for the tsunamis from the Great Sendai earthquake in Japan and the volcano eruption in Tonga as well as the Indonesia earthquake and tsunami that reminded us we can be affected by a tsunami from an earthquake or volcano thousands of miles away. Also in the age of social media, there is misinformation going around, and we need to be aware of this problem by going to official sources of information including social media updates from official sources.
Check the United States Geological Survey website. Almost all of the faults in California are slip faults which don't raise water. The possibility of a notable tsunami is absolutely negligible.
The fact is that we are grossly unprepared for any disaster - we all had no idea if there was giant wave or nothing to worry about - I don’t think the “experts” did either.
Interesting how they drove along the coast while trying to get away… the interesting thing is that this type of earthquake wouldn’t cause a tsunami, so it was a bunch of panic over nothing.
girl, over dramatic lol. The last major mega quake tsunami's didn't even do anything. It's a good idea to have these evac zones, but SF sits in a relative area where a direct tsunami hit is rare.
is there a way to never see ABC7 News on my feed again? some sort of "disable" or something? they are just reporting about things we already know about.
was i the only person who slept thru this?
I went to the beach to check it out myself 😂
No
I feel like there should also be neighborhood sirens that indicate a more local alarm

“Stay safe everyone “👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I grew up in Taiwan. Talk about an authentic earthquake country. It was a sleepless night for me; so sure, I felt it but I went right back to sleep.

Thank you for taking initiative.
You did good bro
thank you for your service 🙏
No you didn’t, Chuck Norris did. 😂
Better for the citizens to respond to all alerts. Always be prepared and remember life is not a game. Try to cease taking life for granted.
Godzilla coming. ❤
I didn't feel nothing i live in the city
And you wouldn't!!! Nobody in the Bay Area felt a much bigger quake of magnitude 9.2 from the Alaskan quake in 1964!!!!!! 👍🌉😱
i live in the city and i felt it.
@@lt5466 Bull💩. It was probably just a truck passing by.
This is why I have alerts turned off on my phone, ridiculous waste of my time.

If you see it, its likely too late. Common sense goes a long way.
