  • We recently sat down with One of the hardest-working singers in Rock, John Corabi, John chatted with our own 'Keri McCherry' where he candidly and openly about his time in MC. Nikki's beef with him, and his thoughts on Mick Mars retiring from touring. Staying on as a second guitarist after Vince Neil's Return, and much more. John pulled no punches and did not avoid any questions that were put to him.

So Fucking true, every song is great! It's all killer, no filler. I've worn out 3 cassettes and 4 CD's. They should have put it under a different name, it was right in line with the changing music style at the time.

It doesn’t sound dated like some of the other material it was ahead of its time and the drum and guitar sounds are incredible on it . Hammered is a killer song!
Yep If it had come out under a different name, but think about it VanHalen did pretty good with a replacement singer . Motley Corabi was about a hundred times better than Sixx AM .

For me, I hugely preferred it to 'The Black Album.' The songs were better, the sound was better, the riffs absolutely crushed. The Corabi album came out around the same time as Soundgarden's Superunknown and King's X's Dogman and all three albums had a similar vibe: heavy, riffy, and powerful.

I used to be a Motley fan. I thought the first 2 records were great and parts of Dr. Feelgood. But I was pretty much done with Motley and moving onto heavier bands at that point. When Motely 94 came out it I was blown away by how much better the music had gotten and especially the vox. That is the ONLY Motley that I still listen to, from time to time. I can't name one song after Corabi left. But I can tell you that I became a big fan of the Dead Daises down the road when Corabi was on vox. Honestly, I wouldn't pay 10.00 to see a Motley Crue show now. I'm shocked by how many people still love and listen to them on a regular basis, I suppose people get to relive the memories of their childhood and I can respect that.

I've seen them a lot. Like, a lot a lot. Nostalgia is definitely part of it... but honestly, Mick still sounds sooooo good live, even up til last year. Without him, I have absolutely zero interest. And yeah, '94 was on a whole other level. That album still sounds incredible today. Definitely my favorite, but hard to compare to the others because it's its own thing.

I never really accepted this album as a Motley Crue album and never gave it much of a chance. A few years later I've come to appreciate it and still love it. Talk about honesty. Corabi was on a hiding to nothing joining MC. hat record 'Crue' was HEAVY, and Mick and JC from what I have read worked really really well together, JC took some pressure off Mick's playing, and like the legend SpaceAce when he left KISS, he did not like the direction the band was going in [The Elder], Mick has guts, sure the 'Smokin' record was a bit poppy but it had blues influence and Mick is a massive blues fan. My take JC's one of the most decent honest muso's I've seen. Mick imo just got sick of milking the cash cow and has integrity, AND his spinal problems as he is the oldest member by a significant timeframe years wise - he wanted to retire from MC. He's financially set for life, has his own material. Mick arguably is one of 'the' greatest modern day axemen in the industry. Sixx is a talented writer but imo has contradicted himself so many times I just turn off to him. Tommy has Trump Derangement hysterically, and his son punched him out. Always loved 'TBone' the most until he started ranting about President Trump EVERY day for years. I've always been a CrueHead but I will NEVER pay to see them again.

I'm seeing a ton of similarities here with what John is going through as with Jeff Scott Soto and the Journey situation. Many people commenting knocking John Corabi etc. But this guy is very to the point. Doesn't to have any ulterior motives when answering, and really all he's been doing is "answering questions." How realistic he is being about how people want to see the original four members of Motley Crue and how it's Vince's voice/ tone that is the ingredients of the band....really shows how down to earth John is and that his ego is not in the way.

@@stubbysmallpox Nikki Does write all the songs and actually writes them on a guitar. This much I do know. Smart businessman, good songwriter, entertaining showman, better bassist than some give him credit for. As a person I won't say a word.

81 to 91 crue was awesome. And the 94 record was awsome. Nothing they have done since has been any good at all. Yea they couldn't get any good riffs out of mick because those songs absolutely suck. Swine is embarrassing. No guitar player could fix that garbage. I remember flinging that disc out of my car on the 15 freeway in SD.

@Dave Wight you obviously weren't there in the 80s. They were the biggest rock band in the world for a few years. Your mom has your hot pocket ready, so beat it pigeon.

@Otis driftwood yes i was, saw them in the 80s, the problem is I grew up and they didn't. My mom has a hot pocket? So does your mom where she probably wishes a real man like me could have warmed it up for her.

This album is a masterpiece of heavy rock music from the 90's. It's also one side of Bob Rock's sound trilogy : Metallica-Black Album/Mötley Crüe-1994/Bon Jovi-Keep the Faith. These records are awesome !!!

Loved the Motley Crue album. Hard hitting rock that was reminiscent of their first two albums.

Great interview. That 94’ album is still the best they ever made! Mick Mars was done wrong by Frank aka “Nikki”

Crab’s comments regarding Mick kinda confirms what I’ve thought for years…and it confirms WHY I didn’t care for much of anything put forth by the band past the ‘94 album.

People get addicted to the memories and emotions of the past, then expect it to return like going to visit the old high school.

Listen to Crabby, the same thing could be said for GNR the fans want Izzy and Adler even if it’s just for the Appetite era songs. Most of the singers from the 80s have lost it and can’t be expected to be able to sing complete songs in falsetto and it sucks but it is what it is getting old. Tom Kiefer is about the only guy from that whole scene that could still pull it off as of a couple years ago.

Was this interview from 2022 or 2002? The questions, aside from the Mick / J5 stuff, have literally been asked a million times. Poor Corabi… I feel for the dude having to answer the same shit everyday.

I met him once and apologized to him because I never gave that album a chance . Years later I listened to it and I love it defiantly change band name was a mistake. John is a really great guy
