The Soprano Disease

- There are quite a few parallels between AJ and Christopher's struggles in the episode "Walk Like a Man." The final season of The Sopranos goes to great lengths to dismantle any remaining illusion that the crime family is a stable environment.

Nice job. ..The Sopranos is the human equivalent of a bucket of crabs who pull down the lone individual who strives to get out but is quickly pulled down by the group into their shared misery.
walt whitman ova here
Yea but did you see the way he was hitting Adrina we gotta take everything from him to save his family and to just by happenstance stop messing with the profit line ahh we just need to all go out and getta bj
This show was the future of cinema
One of the hardest instances to watch was when Janice, having bottomed out by beating up a soccer mom, makes real progress and is actually doing a good job with Bobby’s kids, running a decent, orderly household, and Tony comes to Sunday dinner and drags her right back down, throws the whole family into chaos.
Tony is just like his mom
It's almost like organised crime is full of narcissists
Oh I suppose you're better than them. You're so virtuous and a shining beacon of human conduct.
@@thelastaesthetewtf man?😂
I would go as far to say that this guy is most likely better then them
@thelastaesthete
... yes I would say he is legitimately better than those who are involved in organized crime.

If you ask he’s a bit of a poseur, i don’t know he likes to talk the talk.
Reminded me of Louis the whatever's finance minister
Ray Abruzzo doesnt get the credit he deserves for his portrayal of the Carmine Jr character.
That's awesome people still make videos about the sopranos even tho the show hasn't been on in 20 years
Fucking amazing show I just binge watched it recently. I just wish I could have seen it when it first came out. But I was a child back then 😭
Timeless art. It can be interpreted in so many ways
20 years in the can…
@@djgreene5440It’s crazy that I remember watching season 3 when I was 16 with my dad and now I’m watching it with my 16 yo
Actually there's more context to Tony and Chris downfall. It's not his sobriety. His sobriety is a means to attack Chris and a reason for Chris to distance himself from the guys. But the issue was Adriana and when Tony and her were in there car accident and Chris losing it and "Throwing down on a boss of a family." After that their relationship eroded.
I do believe that was the catalyst of the end of their relationship but I believe that the events of "Walk Like a Man" highlight that this environment will always taint relationships and destroy you.
@gezenews he made strides to do better. He should've trusted adriana and ran off with her when they had a chance
@@60wwedivaAdriana wasn't smart and didn't lawyer up when the feds first interrogated her. If she did that she'd likely still be alive
Good choice on the retitle. It emphasizes not only the contrasting conflict between Tony's sons, but also the rampant putrid, rotten disease they deal with which is often left untreated and simply covered up.
Walk Like A Man is one memorable episode (S6B goes so hard) largely in how it culminates Chris' arc, one of the most uniquely executed I've seen in media, and contrasts his struggles with with Tony's other troubled son.
It's the show on full display; hypocrites, torn illusions of a glamorous lives, excellently contrasted storylines of men struggling to cope and express themselves in tough, macho world where the symptoms are covered rather than addressed at the roots.
Del Lobo's 'The Valley' playing over a lonely Chris coming back to find an uprooted tree that he quickly puts back in its place when the issue (again) neglecting the roots is the cherry on top and summary of the episode. Making his demise early in the next show, all the more tragic and hard-hitting imo.
Glad you liked the title change! If there is one positive to me having to revisit this video it’s that I got to reexamine the title. You’re comment perfectly summarizes how I feel about the show!
damn man i see u everywhere lmfao

Paulie blowing off an argument because he has neighbors is such a classic Paulie move 😂
All these Sopranos Essays have been taking over my feed. And I ain't complaining ❤
The algo is getting better at predicting what you want to watch. For all its faults this platform is the best around.
“Tony’s fails as a father, uncle, and friend”
“Paulie robs Chris’ father in law”
“Chris abandons his sobriety to try and please people who ostracized him”
“AJ becomes a dude bro”
And that’s when the sopranos became the darkest show in television for me, I can’t believe they let AJ go down that path…
Haha, But seriously, fantastic video, keep up the great work!
One of the great joys of this show is you can watch it and watch it and watch it, and have favorite episodes, favorite moments, favorite endings. And then you pull out a random one deep into the catalogue you haven’t seen in awhile-and you see it in a whole new light, and it becomes your new favorite. Walk like a Man is one of those. It’s like having a wine cellar at your disposal. They change in complexity and resonance as you return to them.
This is really well done. Sopranos analysis has been a quick go to for me for years. You got another sub.
That was a beautiful introspection . Something beyond the normal ebb and flow of the soprano talk .. thank you
Amazing, I can't wait for more of these. You always seem to say the perfect things for Sopranos breakdowns.
hey man, of all the sopranos content you really show the parts that are left out by most. The small scenes that are unheard of my most and it is in the details where you find the truth, like david chase said.
Thanks for the vid man
This video is great, but i feel this could easily have been longer. This is a really fascinating concept, and your analysis is spot on. I feel like this is a theme throughout most of the series, and theres so much more to explore.
Great analysis. Thanks for reminding me about how much more details there are in The Sopranos.
This is a great video that conveys its points well. Helped by the fact that it’s paced and edited very well.

Great stuff. Love this combined narration & analysis style - it's good because you don't get stuck on one thing, you keep moving and that keeps us watching rather than clicking off. You get right to it, with no fluff. By the way, I wonder if you've seen True Detective - I'd be interested in seeing you analyse that.
I saw this in my feed or whatever it’s called and thought, hmmm….Almost done and this is great. Of course so much is open to interpretation I suppose but I think you nailed it. Well done and hope your channel is a success.
This is honestly just like an average Asian household dynamic. I think that's why I love The Sopranos, it resonates with me, more than something like breaking bad. The relationships are grounded in reality, I can see myself and people I know in a select few characters. I'm glad I watched this show.
That's part of what makes the show so interesting to me. Being able to relate to these assholes creates such an interesting conflict for the audience to come to terms with.
Thank you for being logical and insightful in your analysis.
Fantastic analysis!
Brilliant assessment.
Great video and analysis on the hypocrisy of the "Family" and analysis on their additions/vices and mental health.
This was a phenomenal video
i love this analysis wow so good
This is really insightful and well thought out. Fantastic video. That last season really dispenses with illusions of family values and shows them as miserable people bringing other people down to their misery while chasing the only thing they truly value, money.
Oh a TH-camr with a down to earth take on mental health in this show I’ll subscribe
Really great analysis on the ending’s core. I think the 6B is undervalued
There are things that frustrate me about 6b but there is so much stuff to love about it.

Great observation
I understand what you're saying about Christopher but it's really hard to sympathize with someone who literally has never engaged in an act that wasn't entirely self serving.
The first time I watched the series as a teenager I couldn't believe how poorly people treated him but upon my second and third viewing I found him nothing short of repulsive, arrogant, ignorant and Narcissistic at each and every turn.
He is at the very least worse than Tony. I actually applauded his actions in the sixth season.
I agree that he is horrible but I'm not sure I agree that he's worse than Tony. Tony was the one who brought him into the mob life and enabled Chris's narcissism. I don't know maybe I am just a hippie lol.
@@LavenderRex7705 Tony at the very least shows genuine compassion for other certain characters and has immense love for animals and children. He also has never ass**lted his wife while Christopher seems to put hands on Adrian every other episode, k*lled her pet without remorse and m*rdered his friend just because he wouldn't listen to his sob story.
I'm not going to write further regarding Tony's morality though as that is of course a losing battle since he does engage in many acts that are undoubtedly cruel and awful.
Christopher also drags others down to his level he just doesn't do it to the degree Tony does simply because he doesn't have the power and influence to do so.
At any rate at least we can agree that Christopher is awful lol.
@@joeking6972The waiter incident is a great example but yeah Tony killing Chris is the most heinous act in the show i mean on the external its a burden off the earth but for Tony this is a guy he saw growing up he didn't care about his family so putting that side his only good reason to kill him was that he reminded him of himself? Just think about killing your child brother or cousin you love fpr that sole reason and than laughing on about it
@@dxsyan694 huh? Didn't care about his family? Dude the main reason why he did it was because he saw a tree branch in his daughter's seat; if he allowed Chris to continue on like he was it would inevitably lead to him doing irrevocable damage to his family.
Tony cared more about Chris' daughter than he did.
@@joeking6972 But that is just an excuse he uses to justify his actions of killing Christopher because later on he tries to rationalise his behavior to others at the funeral and carmela which Tony is known for throughout the series he makes constant justification as to hide from his true self being shown to others in other session he tells melfi they are 'soldiers' and soldiers don't go to hell they follow codes when asked if chris deserves hell but when the same question comes to him he hesitates but then gives the same reply and later on when realising that he is the one giving the orders he finds yet another justification like 'American corporations and government they were crooks and criminals too' that is Tony he can't face what he fears and constantly copes with it mentally by joking or lashing out and physically through 'panic attacks'
good analysis dude

The only comment I have is that Paulie, and the other mobsters for that matter, didn't have a problem with Chris' alcoholism, they had a problem with his heroin use.
holy shit this was good
The reason that no one knows how to handle Chris is because Chris is a different person every couple days. One day hes a sober family man, then hes a hardcore gangster the next. Thats why Paulie and Tony are so perplexed on how to deal with Chrissy.
There’s truth there but you don’t really need to figure someone out to not rob their father-in-law. Tony and Paulie just don’t care about Chris or anyone else really
@@joegibbskins All true. In a show with top notch writing and character work the Christopher character is the standout in a bad way. Literally everything about Chris was unrealistic and frankly just not believable. Its a testament to Imeperioli's acting that so many people identify with such an unrealistic character.
@@sole__doubt you not knowing anyone impulsive or who couldn’t figure out what they wanted to be isn’t the show’s fault

Ah yes. The sacred and the propane.
Great video. I always thought the mob-kids-at-Rutgers scenes were realistic and well-done and under-appreciated.
When I was in college, there were a couple of guys on campus whose fathers were allegedly OC. These guys dealt a little blow and were campus bookies just like on the show. They were behind the point-shaving scandal that turned into a national scandal and caused the school to cancel the basketball program for a couple of years.
EXCELLENT EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!
At first I wanted to attribute JT's death to Chris covering up past dealings but I think it was pure jealousy. Chris realized he has no way out and sold his soul. While on the other hand, no matter what was thrown at this movie producer, JT Dolan will always bounce back and is allowed to be a happy wanderer. Chris ate JT, Tony ate Chris, New York ate New Jersey.
You need to adjust the difference between your commentary volume and the video clip volume. Best of luck with your channel.
Definitely a very dark episode
3:33 😂😂😂😂
Marcel and his damn cookies. Nucci offered Paulie cookies as a conciliatory offering. He should have taken some.
Had Tony taught Paulie more about Proust's madeleines, instead of Sun Ta-zoo, this conflict with Chrissy could have been handled with a little more introspection.
Tough guy Tony, though, had to push his mafiosi mentality to establish his position as leader. (alpha narcissist) The guys were looking for head.
I mean looking for a head. A leader.
Is it me, or is it getting a lot harder to press the sound button on the TH-cam MiniPlayer?

Alright alright but how much time did uncle philly did in the can?

Nice job. I recently re-watched the episode "The Ride" where Christopher gets re-addicted to heroin after Tony offers him a glass of wine to toast to his wedding. Later, while talking to Carmella about Christopher's supposed focus and success, Tony is drinking a glass of the wine him and Christopher stole earlier and says "let's not sabotage his progress". All to dissuade Carmella from investigating Adrianna's murder after running into Liz La Cerva.
