Mental Omega - Supportive Super Weapons & Extras

  • The supportive Super Weapons can completely change the tide of the game. They are only available if the option is enabled which quite shows how they can affect the pace of the game. There are many interesting uses which can be done especially if those are combined with each other.
    In Mental Omega each faction has some extra "weapons" in their arsenal which can be considered to be just as good as the main Supportive Super Weapons.
    • The Chronopshere retains it's ability to Chrono vehicles but it can no longer affect enemy units. It also doesn't kill infantry units. Lastly, it can't be used on an Amphibious transport anymore most likely due to balance. Building an Experimental Shop will unlock four more Chronosphere abilities.
    • The Iron Curtain retains it's ability to render vehicles invulnerable for a short period of time. Same as with the changes made to Chronopshere, it no longer harms infantry units and doesn't affect enemy vehicles. The Soviets can also build an Iron Guard which makes nearby vehicles permanently invulnerable.
    • The Genetic Mutator has changed into Rage Inductor and units affected by it have increased combat capabilities. It can affect both vehicles and infantry with the latest gaining a massive health regeneration.
    • The new Foehn faction has many weapons to use. The Blast Furnace can create wall-type structures which when activated will instantly destroy anything that was on top of them. It will also prevent any unit passing through them. The Harbinger can be summoned to attack a specific area dealing massive damage while the Nano Fiber Loom can upgrade the faction's infantry.

      @SUCC A DUCC There are alot of example actually. Most of them are about designs of units. For example salamander probably has the design of the GDI Transport in TS. Warhawk is from Generals Comanche. Riot Trooper from RA3 Peacekeeper etc. You can search for them at the bottom of the pages of the FANDOM wiki. They are really fun to read.

    my biggest hope is that soon a red alert 2 and yuri's revenge remaster comes out on steam and that mental omega makes support for it.

      Whiterun Guard they did upscale the original cutscene in the Remastered after all and most likely gonna do the same as well if they remastered TS and RA2 cause master recording most likely lost in time now

      And not to be a further buzzkill but there is a virtually zero chance that MO will create support for the remaster since it's extremely unlikely there will be any easy way to port the MO code from the Ares engine to whatever the remaster is using :/

      Basically yes, but has one feelable difference: in TS time which blasticade can be active decreases with amount of wall segments, here it's 2 minutes always.

      Wait does building multiple Firestorm generators increase the time the wall is active? And also I'm pretty sure that getting hit by a hunter-seeker would just completely shut down the generator. However I don't know if multi or chemical missiles will affect it.

      In TS the bigbest benefit I thought it had was that it could almost completely nullify missile superweapon attacks (The missile detonates over the wall, but the cluster missiles and tib clouds could still pass through to nearby units or structures) and mostly make hunter seeker drones only hit a wall piece. Here most of that benefit is not present, as superweapons come from above or instantly

    Let me add:
    Backwarp can heal anything allied: vehicles, infantry, structures.
    Chronosphere does not affect superunits also
    Warp miners: could be used to distract enemy fire since they are enough tough.
    Chronolift will not move buildings which dont have enough place on new location
    UPD: flying superunits are not destroyed by blasticade: Irkalla and Harbinger.
    UPD2: Haihead's and Coronia's tier 3 infantry can be mutated as well, which is not in video :3
    Also you said about completely changed Genetic Mutator but missed thant here exist nerfed version of mutator: affects only enemy infantry and deals average random damage, mutates if killing. Can be used by one subfaction only.

    Note on The Blast Furnace you didn't mention: It's straight-up just the Tiberian Sun Firestorm Defense. This means it also blocks all projectiles from passing the walls. The vanilla Magnetron _would_ be able to lift things on the other side, but it's not in MO. This would be the only thing off the top of my head that *can* pass through the wall while it is active.

    I love this mod but I really just hate how you can't kill infantries with the Iron Curtain or drown enemy vehicles with the Chronosphere. That's like removing the fun part of my childhood :(

      its a balance for tier 3 units since tier 3 units in this game are very expensive compare to vanilla version losing majority of your tier 3 infantry or armor units from a chronosphere or iron curtain is really a disadvantage

      @@patricksusulin9335 yeah but it's shitty balance since (1) the point of the support superweapons is to force your opponent to micro their army and keep it spread out, even if they are ahead economically and have lategame units, and (2) it's real shitty to have the chrono and IC be so weak that they cannot even counter a giant infantry blob buffed by Rage {which in return can easily wipe lategame tanks...}

      @@patricksusulin9335 Chronosphere and Iron Curtain got a annoying debuff. Iron curtain being not able to kill infantries and enemy units is okay but why in the world it lasts SHORTER on terror drone? There is no logical explanation other than ''We didnt like people using this tactic in a *strategy* game so we ''balanced'' it to be completely useless now.''
      While Iron Curtain can be considered balanced, Chronosphere is outright debuffed so hard that its better to spend more money on army which you can take down enemies rather than waiting 10 seconds only to transport 5 units which your enemy will likely be ready for, especially after the update to defensive structures.
      The best usage of Chronosphere are either transporting Amphibious crafts OR couple of your enemy's vehicles. Which any person who knows how to play against an allied player would either not let you use the superweapon in the first place OR separate their units. Its called tactic, you cant debuff strategy for the sake of balance. There is no logical explanation other than ''we didnt like the way it was used'' for removing transportation of enemy crafts.
      You might say ''They dont damage enemy infantry'' It would be fine.
      You can argue that Amp craft are too large of heavy to use Chronosphere for some reason and still would be arguable.
      But removing the basis of the superweapon is completely unnecessary.
      Thats why people in RA3 dont use SW and invest on army. We rarely see them get used and even then UNLESS its a team game, it doesnt fire a second time.
      M.O.'s new faction got so many buffs which has basically became a new Yuri. Its offensive weapon is worse than the others and will wipeout your entire base completely.
      Where is the balance in that?

      MM just put the Iron Curtain and the Chronosphere into their intended roles, and fragging enemy units using those support weapons are not one of them.

    For beginners wanting to try mental omega coming from YR or RA2:
    1: Play the campaign. Seriously. If youre used to a few GIs in YR or RA killing a tank, thats not happening in MO. Every unit role is defined, and is balanced towards that role. A GI in MO can kill infantry well, but cant take down tanks or flak traks as effectively. Same goes to Guardian GIs. And all the other units. They have defined roles.
    2: Value your regenerative units (field medics, IFVs with engineers, repair drones, etc). They can make or break your tank/infantry rush.
    3: Get used to the new unit tech tiers. The campaign helps you get used to these.
    4: Base defenses are also role defined, but not always. You will eventually get used to them.
    5: Always bring mixed squads. By this i mean dedicated tanks, anti infantry, anti air, regen units, infantry support, etc. Though this can apply to both RA and YR.

      You should also add that the Easy Difficulty in a Skirmish is more like Easy in FTL...
      Because it gives you no time to get your bearings before they mob rush you with SEALs and radar jammers and tank rushes.

    Nanofibre sync is what you can say making foehn units so strong. My favourite is the godsbane and zorbfloters. They deal a serious amount of damage and zorbfloters are like the classic magnetron on foot. Really good when fighting against strong vehicles especially sniping miners

    Best of the support superweapons is the Rage Inductor, easily. It can be a powerful game-changer if used at the right time during base assaults (especially since it regenerates infantry health at a fast rate.) Iron Curtain needs to be applied carefully due to it's small effect area, Chronosphere has a slight delay rate when teleporting units (and can no longer be exploited to kill units), and the Blasticade is a very situational anti-air/defense shield.

      Just look at techtree complexity. Even soviet and allied techtree become different in MO. Not to mention Foehn's 3 separate soviet radar-like tier-upgrade building, with 1 of them is the actual radar, 1 is spy satellite super power provider ,1 is the gene mutator with cost per usage and 3 subfaction use different one as their own battlelab.

      Lore wise, the pacific front was supposed to have it, but they didn't finish it, and so Foehn took it later during their war with Epsilon.

      also worth noting that foehn is consist of pacific front, china and scorpion cell. so mostly the tech of each of the foehn sub factions slightly resembles to the sub factions of each main army. haihead is kinda like scorpion cell, last bastion is the china of foehn and pacific front is wings of coronia

    Rage Inductor absolutely the most deadly support Super Weapon to me with that large Radius, buff Damage for each unit and their heal can restore in very fast way.

      The cost of getting any utility out of a chronosphere is orders of magnitude higher than that for using a rage inductor. I would balance it by giving it a shorter cooldown, but only a 2x2 teleportation grid. This would let it be a faster, more persistant threat and force guerilla warfare, which is great for evening the tables against an opponent with better macro. Right now it's a joke, it's basically just telling your opponent "hey please attack me now, since I have wasted my money on the opportunity cost of a 7th fully loaded battle tortoise". Whereas your opponent spent it on his army, or on a weapon that instantly increases the value of an already existing army. It's basic economics.
      And you also ignored all the other points i made in response to your replies on my comments, so w/e

      @@chavzone idk man, in MO you get another support structure that let you use additional support powers, which i think is fair enough. Besides, you can still chrono abrams tanks and prism tanks.
      Still, i don't really like how they severely nerfed the mirage tanks:(

    The games which do have an active modding community are guarranteed to be Future-proof, even with the introduction of 2nd Gen RTX and 8K gaming. Seriously, if a game has excelent content, the graphics matters less (although some optimization is always welcome)

    1:46 not just your vehicles any unit you put inside the radius is healed it’s very useful in a sustained fight. Also I think chronoboost increases attack rate

    Nanofiber Loom upgrade available for Last Bastion. I don't know if u forgot about this or u just only show Support Super Weapon but each Foehn Subfaction have their own upgrade tech 2 building to tech 3. Haihead upgrade their Cyberkernel and Coronia upgrade their Cloud Piercer

    I never played this mod, but my god, some of the sounds need some serious volume balancing. The Blast Furnace is absurdly loud.
    Or did you increase the volume during video editing?

    Rage is pending an upcoming rework. Careful about doing too much Mental Omega content since 3.3.5 is in its final stages and you wouldn't want the content to be outdated!

    Mental Omega is Love it's the red alert expansion will always ask for. Screw EA and it's Micro Transaction. We want a full game in our CNC games. Support the remastered. We might get Red Alert 2 and Yuri Remastered with love and we might get a Yuri Campaign.

      It will destroy everything. Only Epic units are unharmed.

      It will kill everything with a healtbar so it will kill Hunter-Seekers but not Blackout Missiles or Wallbusters.

    0:45 Yeah, the chronosphere is not the same anymore. I can understand when they make it impossible to teleport an anfibia transport. But at least they could leave the opportunity to move enemy units, I don't think that this is such a destructive weapon that it needed to be "trimmed" so much.

      Anything that has healthbar except the Epic unit. If your hand is fast enough track spy plane, hunter-seeker drone and you will see it's healthbar

    To be actually fair, despite what I say all the time about possible upcoming C&C Remasters, RA2+YR actually doesn't need a remaster since it's still "practically perfect in every way" in terms of gameplay, singleplayer, and multiplayer; Yuri being a "just for fun and not for serious crud" faction also helps. Of course, Dune II and Tiberian Sun+Firestorm truly deserve remasters that fix many things like Dune II's "one unit moving only and not as a group" and "nonregenerating Spice quarries" problems and TS's wasted potential on the Hunter-Killer Drones, air units unrealistically having short Lines of Sight, and more.

      Dune II is impossible to get remastered due to Herbert the owner of Dune IP want the game to stay old no re-release
      And about RA2+YR getting remastered people still want them to run on modern computer without the hassle to editing the ini files and implement modern online feature (like quickplay, leaderboard and better server)

      Have you tried Dune2000? iirc, it was supposed to be a remaster/update of sorts to Dune II.
