    Anytime you build rather than buy it is so much more personal. The touches and parts and how it's assembled. Every time you start it you can hear that it's happy or not. I'm transforming an 06 into something just for me. Great video. It's nice to witness people using their brain and hands and not their wallet.

    Great job! As a kid, back in the early 2000’s I was mesmerized by my older cousin’s 2001 Raptor 660R and thought it was the baddest thing on the planet. At the time I had a 2001 Beartracker 250 and the 660 was such an intimidating, mysterious beast. Many years, bikes, and my own raptor 700 have come and gone, but that 660 will always be the thing of legends to me. The 2000’s were such an exciting time to be in enthusiast of ATV’s.

      You and me both man. When these first came out I was 17 and you’re right - they were intimidating......then my younger brother bought the one in the video in 05.....and it was frighteningly fast haha. That’s also part of the reason why I restored it - sentimental reasons.

      i agree 100% with you both , I was in high school from 2003-2006 , I remember seeing the 660 when it first came out , and i had bought the Suzuki Z 400 quad first month when it came out . Early 2000s and mid were interesting times for atvs / 2 stroke dirt bikes .

    My "budget build" on the 660 went the same way.
    Needed to replace the base gasket...that turned into just about a frame up rebuild. If I ever find time I'll get a video up of the progress. Should be done soon.
    What trailtech mount is that? I have been looking for something like that to mount mine with.

      @gordonwbell  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Isn’t that the way.....haha. I only had intentions of getting the engine running, but once I started digging into and saw how beat up it was, I had to go all the way.
      The trail tech mount is custom made using some aluminum angle. Pretty easy to do, then secured it to the steering stem with the handlebar bolts.

    • @gordonwbell
      @gordonwbell  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I think I’m going to need more information of exactly what’s going on and where this hose comes from. At the moment it sounds like the fuel overflow from the carburetors…..but I want to be sure.

    • @TheSpike1269
      @TheSpike1269 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like your crank case vent.. is it like a ½inch in size? Or real small? If it's small then it maybe an over flow line from the carb.. .. if it has gas constantly coming from it. It say you have a stuck float..

    Would you recommend buying a frame and starting from scratch to build it up? Thinking about doing it since they are super expensive even beat up

    • @gordonwbell
      @gordonwbell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, unfortunately I would not. It’s better to buy a nearly or fully complete but blown up, ratted out, clapped out bike, that the frame isn’t damaged or been modified. I say this because, even though you might end up replacing a lot of things, it’s better to have all the pieces that are hard to find and work from that. You can buy intact and good condition bottom end of the engines and then build that up, if you want - but to do that, it needs to be a rolling chassis, meaning it has the wiring harness, CDI, wheels, plastics, seat, suspension etc. I hope this helps.

    • @gordonwbell
      @gordonwbell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, the costs will be a lot different for each person. I live in Canada so parts are lot more expensive than the states due to currency conversion and duty fees from shipping them from the states. If it’s a ticking noise could be a simple fix like have the valves adjusted or the timing chain is stretched - both fairly inexpensive to do. I get a buddy who’s experienced in mechanics have a listen to it before spending any money. That all being said, I was $1000 for a running engine again without splitting the cases. I did the cylinder, piston, valves, timing chain, starter clutch, oil pump and rebuilt water pump. So the crank and gears were still good. Hope that helps man.
