I'll take that as a shout out! 😉. As an idea for the new series, maybe find a few different surfaces to compare them on. Like the muddy field from last time, maybe some sand, gravel, and even pavement. I'm not sure what is available close to you guys, but I think it could be interesting. Maybe do a time trial on a trail also. Swapping machines as you did last time to see how they really stack up against each other in more than just straight line speed. I can't wait to see how this Raptor turns out and know that it's going to spank that Predator.
Let me give some advice because i just went through the same thing rebuilding a clapped 02 raptor 660 recently. Ended up having to replace EVERYTHING on it. 1. Take that Chinese 686 kit and throw it straight in the scrap bin. They’re junk. I bought that kit and it ran great for about 15 min and it dropped the sleeve and blew the headgasket. Hopped on a Facebook group “660 Raptor owners” and alot of other people have had the same experience with them. The best thing to do is get a stock cylinder, hone it, and throw a 11:1 CP piston in it. Great power tons of torque and reliability. 2: If it hasnt gone out yet and hasnt been replaced they are notorious for the starter clutch one way bearing going out in them and chewing the gear up. L&A makes a great heavy duty kit with new bearing, gear, and puller. 3. DRW Case saver for sure! 4. With the plastic floppy handle bar cover that holds the ignition switch and lights they make billet handle bar clamps on ebay that does away with the plastic and holds the key switch and lights. Looks alot better too. Ready to see how this build turns out!🤟
Yup im with you bro! The only thing different im doing from what you said is running the 12.5 to 1 high comp 686 kit (not chinese tho) and a wiseco crank ✊👊 also thank you yota!!!
Years ago I sold my raptor 660 to a buddy and borrowed a predator 500 from another buddy to go to glamis sand dunes and smoked the raptor every time when we raced. Predator had a exhaust and a fuel manager along with re-jetted carb. My buddy was pissed but that 660 is a heavy bike for sure. 🤣
Great Video John. You and Michael are really putting out some professional content lately.. Love the Quad Warz series. I am a 2 stroke guy, so for a future Quad Warz series anything 2 stroke and I will be happy... Keep the videos coming John....
Tip for the future.Take a nut and stick it on top the strip bolt head and weld inside the nut a good bead and you can stick wrench on the nut you welded and back out broke off bolts. It even works even if the old bolt head is snapped off
Yea thats what i do for snapped head bolts on automobile heads but these were so small and the room in the nut just wasnt enough, i do appreciate the info though!!! 👊✊
The Niche cylinders are known for the sleeve dropping down in the cylinder. Find a good used OEM, have it bored to a 102mm and go from there. Saw the recommendation for a webcams cam. Im gonna be installing a 736/737 grind webcam with a 11:1 compression CP piston and an overbored OEM cylinder this summer during the desert off season.
@@StupidFastJohn from what I understand, no. There's a Facebook Raptor 660 group. Bunch of knowledgeable folks on there. Also, good place to find people parting out bikes if you need less expensive OEM parts. Name is "Yamaha 660 raptor". Around 13k members.
Oh, you can get the ez out out, takes hours, and a 90 grinder and burr pits and lots of patience, has to do it the past 2 days on my Kickstarter bolt on my kx450f
@@StupidFastJohn just got it home! Seems like a really clean bike overall only thing is the rear bearings are shot so got to get those ordered before I ride
Haha ya got me. That wasn't so bad so far. I honestly wouldn't run that piston either. I'd junk that cylinder too. I've read they are kinda hit or miss. The quality control on Chinese stuff is terrible just like harbor freight. Sometimes you get something that works great for years and sometimes you get shit that's shit out of the box.
That's a bummer John, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having good luck with Wiseco cranks. Maybe this one will last. Engine internals is definitely not a place to cheap out lol, especially with how much work it is to split the cases.
Wow! I didnt know wiseco cranks had so many issues but i have only ever used wiseco and had some good results! My 100hp banshee has a wiseco crank and i just bought one for my 400ex with the 426 high comp build im doing ✊
Great video man! Always enjoy your content! Just a Couple of things. 1) niche cylinders are junk - they are notoriously bad for dropping sleeves. 2) the coolant can be drained by the drain bolt on the water pump. 3) the cylinder bolts are different lengths - not very noticeable - make sure to replace them correctly as per the manual. 4) your carbs also look cheap Chinese - almost impossible to get working correctly. 5) change the carb jets - 25 pilot jets the 22.5 are too lean, get rid of the airbox lid, and up your mains to 145/150 Mikuni jets without any other mods. That should wake it up a bit. With everything else being equal. Keep it coming man!
Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback, i knew about the drain plug but i had to take the cylinder off 😅 also thanks for the jetting recommendations. The carbs ill checkout, not sure if theyre cheap china junk or not 👊✊
Hey John, the 20 dollar ebay chains mike sabo and i used on our 400ex builds were pretty good for 20 bucks! I always go with non o ring because the o ring chains rob horsepower due to drag 👊
Hey brother, I have a question. I just finished building an 07 450r that refuses to start. I’ve timed and timed and timed it again. I replaced the starter clutch assembly, reduction gear etc.., she will crank all day, won’t start, shoot, she doesn’t even try to fire.
And make sure the carbs are OEM and not crappy eBay knock offs. If the Niche cylinder is there, those carbs could be knock offs as well. Should say Mikuni, Made in Japan on the side.
On one of my 700s the key switch is extended and moved to the back side of the left front fender mirroring the reverse switch. Look like it could have been factory there.
Soooo excited for this comparison. Also at least the crank wasn’t Chinese junk too so that saves you some money. Hope it runs great for you when it’s all put together. I hear those raptors are great trail quads.
Damn do I hate when people over tighten shit ! Can’t wait to see how this raptor turns out man and quad warz was sick. Here’s and idea for you and mike after you guys do the raptor predator series. If you havent already you may also want to rip the carb off and give a good clean. Them jets get clogged up pretty quick.
