I studied with Rashkovsky for a summer at the Bowdoin festival about 10 years ago. Somehow I stumbled into his studio-made up of not only fantastic violinists, but wonderful musicians as well. I was so intimidated by the level of violin playing around me, that I spent much of that festival fighting self, fear of playing my instrument, and wondering if I should even be in music. In one lesson, Rashkovsky seemingly figured all of this out...telling me a profound story from his own musical performance life in relation to these fears. I will never forget him telling me "so many violinists are good violinists-they have wonderful 'kitchens' (referring to technique) but no house (musicianship). You already have house (then he smiles) so I give you kitchen."
I've never seen a teacher criticise a students music edition before. But he is absolutely right
