I’m a 39 year old husband and father of three I have in the past two years moved both of our mothers and my grandmother into our home. My wife and I are currently about 5-600 dollars short of making ends meet which the relatives have been able to supplement. We have had to give cookies and loaves of bread as gifts this year it has been difficult but I am grateful for being somewhat forced to celebrate the birth of Christ in a way that is more focused on Christ than materialism. ❤ Thank you Jesus Christ for your sacrifice and God bless you all this holiday season.

@stormshadowctf Jonathan Pageau is a French-Canadian icon carver, TH-camr, and public speaker known for his work in symbolism, religion, and the Orthodox faith. He is the editor of the Orthodox Arts Journal, host of the Symbolic World blog and podcast, and founder of Symbolic World Press. Pageau's background includes studying Painting and Drawing at Concordia University in Montreal, where he initially engaged with postmodern art before turning to traditional Christian imagery. His disillusionment with contemporary art led him to specialize in carved iconography in the Eastern Orthodox tradition. He has taught seminars on wood carving and iconography and has been involved in exhibitions and publications. Pageau's work extends to interpreting deep patterns in stories and culture, particularly through the lens of symbolism. He has gained recognition through collaborations with notable figures like Jordan Peterson and has published works like "God's Dog: Monster" and "The Tale of Snow White and the Widow Queen" through his own publishing house.
Thank you Jonathan. I tend to be more thinking invisibly ethereally floating up there in the sky and you bring this to earth which I’m not sure I like in the sense that somehow the miracle part goes away but when I put them both together, I think that’s what completes it. Catholic Christmas masses (there are three) are described as "solemn" here in Spain, because being fiercely Marian (venerating the Blessed Virgin Mary) Spanish Catholics know she knew her son would suffer.

Merry Christmas Jonathan!! Thank you for sharing your wisdoms and observations, your videos always make me excited and full of gratitude for how amazingly grand, loving, and intelligent our Heavenly God is ❤
Everything in God's creation is real what is pointing to something that is more real. I call that the sacramentality of God's creation. I have spread a small area of zoysia grass over my whole entire front yard and even into the back which made me meditate upon many things such as the church, confession, the soul, sanctity, etcetera. I am Catholic and always enjoy your meditations upon icons and created things in stories in the scriptures. It's like we can see things that Protestants cannot. That's what frustrates me a lot whenever I talk to them
I grew up nondenominational. Became an atheist. Life got hard now I’m searching. What I’m realizing is how similar of a world view the Christian’s and atheists have. Christians I grew up with I mean. They claim to be spiritual, but see the world exactly as the atheists do, pure materialism. As I’ve had discussions with Catholics and a lot with Hindus the philosophical thought is much much deeper. This discussion is hinting at the dualism built into so many world views. When what’s hidden is the nondualism.
Merry Christmas! Thank you for sharing your view of reality and being able to verbalize it. I too looked at reality in the form of symbols and sometimes felt so misunderstood. Now I understand that I’m not that crazy. Maybe just a little bit haha. Thank you so much for the guidance you give. God bless to you and your family.
I had the honor of photographing the interiors of medieval churches in Cyprus. The walls were covered with paintings. One of them was an icon of the birth of Jesus with these same elements. There were many others which showed that same compression of events, almost a still movie. The paintings were stunning.
Seven years ago I set myself the task of illustrating the 9 lessons of the Lessons and Carols service as dioramas inside ostrich eggs ( there is a reason; it’s another story). I’m working on the Nativity this year, and was prompted to listen to Jonathan’s talk as I worked. Wow. My Joseph is cradling the exhausted Mary, who is nursing the infant Christ. He has a look of puzzlement and wonder……”What just happened?” I have the jug of wine and a broken loaf of bread ready to put at their feet. Now I see that the stonework needs to be extended upward into a more cavelike structure, and there needs to be a manger carved out of the rock, with swaddling cloths ready to receive the baby. Now I’ll have to check out the icons depicting the other lessons, to see what my unconscious slipped into those scenes! It’s usually months after completing a diorama that I begin to understand what it’s really about; I think Jonathan must know the feeling well. And……I won’t peek at his analysis of the two lessons left to go!
Picasso may have missed a calling as an iconographer? Pope JP2, created a Little Office BVM, for the jubilee year. It seems like a spiritual version of the Nativity Icon. The psalms, new testament readings, early fathers, and chosen teachings are powerful tools to communicate with my Jewish, Orthodox, Protestant, and other faith family. Icons do such a wonderful job of translating the timelessness, and transcendent majesty of God ❤. Thank you for your work and teaching. Have a blessed Christmas season, and joyful new year.
I was just listening to Christian choir Christmas music while making dinner. I was telling my husband about how some of the choir music uses the same words like “Agni’s Dei.” And I just realized that DEI spells GOD in Latin. I find that very fascinating and very much typical for the Enemy and how he does things.
In a town that means House of Bread. Our Lord spent his first moments on earth supported by the wood of the manager. He spent the last moments of his earthly life, supported by the same substance on the cross. Born in a cave of stone, He was laid in a sepulcher after his death, and willed that He remain with us on the altar stones.
I wish I could fully understand what he is trying to say. I know in my heart that what Jonathan is trying to say is true but it's like when a word is on the tip of your tongue but you just can't quite grasp it. I pray it will come to me. I have been raised a christian and have been following in delight as I see the world seem to reconsider these truths. I understand on an intellectual level but I just can't seem to understand exactly what he is saying here 28:56 although I know it will be delightful once I do.
Would like to hear your views on this odd tradition - The tradition of the Kallikantzaroi (Καλλικάντζαροι) is a fascinating aspect of Greek folklore, particularly tied to the Twelve Days of Christmas (December 25 to January 6). According to legend, these mischievous and impish creatures live underground, spending their time trying to saw through the “world tree” or pillar that holds up the earth. Their goal is to collapse the world into chaos. However, their efforts are perpetually interrupted every year when Christmas arrives. During this time, they ascend to the surface to cause havoc among humans, playing pranks and generally creating mischief. The Kallikantzaroi are thought to stay on earth until Epiphany (January 6), when the Great Blessing of the Waters banishes them back underground. Characteristics of the Kallikantzaroi • Appearance: They are typically described as small, grotesque, and hairy creatures, resembling goblins or gnomes. • Behavior: They are mischievous rather than malicious, delighting in teasing people, stealing food, and playing tricks. • Tree Cutting: While they are on earth, their work of cutting the tree is paused. Once they return underground after Epiphany, they find that the tree has miraculously healed itself, and they must start over. Protection Against Them People in villages traditionally protected themselves from the Kallikantzaroi through rituals and superstitions, such as: • Burning a Yule log: Keeping a fire burning in the hearth throughout the Twelve Days of Christmas to ward off the goblins. • Placing garlic or holy water: These were thought to repel the creatures. • Hanging pork or a black-handled knife: These objects were believed to keep the Kallikantzaroi at bay. This tradition reflects a blend of ancient pagan beliefs and Christian customs, emphasizing the themes of light and darkness, chaos
Merry Christmas, Jonathan, and thank you for the interesting information in the video. I also found interesting the questions from the public. I would also like to ask you: do the angels on the right keep towels in their hands, or is there a symbolism behind that, too? Thank you!
I feel like Pageau gets so close to Nondualism, but doesn’t quite explore it enough. The Catholic mystics were willing to. And to me that’s where the lights come on. That’s where it all connects.
Thank you for these rich insights. Is there a connection between the doors of death on which Christ is standing and the two tablets of the 10 commandments?
