- the iPhone XR is one my favourite iPhones of all time but can you still use it now in 2023? iOS 17 has just been released for the iPhone XR with potentially its last ever update but how does this make the phone feel in 2023?

My battery percentage is at 93 percent at 2 year mark… and that’s after an unhealthy amount of use basically 24/7, tbh a really great reliable phone. I just bought my 15 pro max, but it has been my best phone up to this date
I can't let the XR go yet 😭

The ghosting is because the XR has an LCD display. There's something different about how they work vs an OLED. I specifically notice it when the phone is very cold. If you compare an iPhone 12 (OLED) to an iPhone 11 in cold weather, you will 100% notice a difference.

Battery health is a bit concern but for calls social media lite games and if you are using it in an official environment you are good to go with it. Still a beast atleast far more better than many budget androids

My teenagers still love their Xr’s! The Xr, 11 and SE are the only choices for the 10% of us who can’t use OLED due to PWM. I’m PRAYING they don’t use OLED on the SE 4!
I agree that most people don't need a lot of the stuff in newer phones but they're all nice to haves

oh yeah the reason why the XR's display feels slow or you get that "ghosting" feeling you described. I assumed that it is because OLED displays has a significantly faster response time compared to say, an LCD like on this iPhone. And that's the reason why when you came back to using this, it felt sluggish. I do not know how much faster oled iphones are compared to an lcd iphone since i've only heard this from monitors.

I bought the iPhone XR in October 2019 & the battery health is 85% now after more than 4 years
Watching this on IPhone XR works really well for me, don’t have any plans to change it, it satisfies my needs almost perfectly, bought it last year, refurbished. It broke down a couple of times, that was the only pain in the ass for me, fixed it in a local workshop. Also after upgrading to new IOS 17, I have a feeling like I have a new phone, which is pretty cool. And also XR looks much more authentic comparing to any other model and also have the best colour collection

Im using my XR daily till now and its supper comfy, one and only that is not comfortable for me is the backglass and all fingerprint on it. But still after 5years still good smartphone to use. I think it is apples one of the best product

You can absolutely still use the XR as your daily driver. I had one until a month ago at 90 percent battery health. Wound up getting the iPhone 13 in the same white color as the XR and I honestly couldn’t tell a huge difference between the two. Performance worked well on the XR and battery life was still really decent getting over 5 hours of screen on time at 90 percent battery health on iOS 17. Not sure if the XR will get iOS 18, but even if not, you could get this a budget iPhone and still be able to use it another 2 years at least if not 3. I used it as my daily driver and never had the kind of screen issues and the battery life was pretty good for a 5 year old iPhone.
It's crazy how they can hold up and 90% battery heath for 5 year old phone is even more crazy
@@1PaulJ Yeah it is crazy how well they hold up after over 5 years. Not sure if the one I had may have had the battery replaced, but it got me through a day unless I used it as a hotspot and even then I still managed to mostly get through a day.
i legit just upgraded yesterday... mine got terribly slow and had bad battery (at "92" health). camera took 10s of seconds to open etc...
Yeah the app slowness can kill you
I currently own a iPhone 7 and thinking about getting either a iPhone XR, or the iPhone se 2022.

Stout bezels are valued by older people and teenagers alike for the simple reason that they are tough and give good leverage and steadying.
The young adults into fashionable and latest for the sake of it will happily give heaps of money to Tim Cooke and the company but the engineers are the people to listen to. Many predict that cell phones will shrink again soon, be thicker [not heavier] and even restore the audio jack, especially for the giant Asian market.
I have a iPhone XR at 90% battery health and Its not my main phone anymore but still use it to listen to music

I’d highly recommend upgrading to the regular iPhone 13, the price dropped to $600 which is amazing for what you’re getting.

I’ve been using XR for 5 years with a 10 hours average screen time and it work completely fine. Not going to upgrade as long I can still use Apps.

I still have a iPhone XR but I’m thinking about upgrading to the 15’s. I’ve had my phone for 3-4 years, it needs to be charged 3-4 times which is annoying. The 15 has caught my eye and I wanted to update for a while.
I think when you have to charge as much as you are it’s time for a new phone. That would drive me mad

Mine. Has black spots on one of them and the other has the left 1/2” deadzone on touch and I have to use voice control to get out of apps and I have a Xs that I loved but the screen has lines running through it.. I have one with cell service but the others are just for WiFi and beta

The only issue I’m having is my battery

It’s really annoying
Kinda feel like I shouldn’t have updated if I knew or they should’ve warned it would affect the battery life

My Xr is lagging very hard now a days and all things started after updating ios 16 any suggestions? It is lagging harder then old samsung android 🤖 phones, WhatsApp is taking 6 seconds to load
Update to iOS 16.7.2 there’s no more lag on that version

Exactly 3 years of owning it, just dropped to 79 percent health. Still getting 4.5 hours sot, getting a new 14 and confused if i should get a 12 pro used for cheaper

Have my iPhone XR for 4 years, I think it might be time to upgrade because the battery dies quickly, runs slow on certain apps and camera quality isn’t the best no more, just updated to iOS so now the battery is gonna be horrible 😭

I’m getting the 15 base model in green but I absolutely love my coral color XR some people look at my phone and question if it’s a iPhone because the color is so flashy haha I love it!
But it’s so slow now on iOS 17. And I’d love a new camera and faster speeds

Gotta be that guy. Any upgrade should be pro. The 13 pro vs 15 base model and +. The 13 pro has 120 hz display vs 60hz on 15 base & +. 3 lenses so you look more Boujee on 13 pro and base model is peasant look. 13 pro in 2023 can be bought new for $700-850 vs $900-1100
120hz is a real game changer that will “feel” like a real upgrade

I sold my iphone 14 pro max and started using my XR iOS 17 with a brand new battery. It is the best experience ever, everything is perfect except the cameras, they are just OK.
I bought this XR with a new battery for $120.
That price is pretty decent BUT it can't be better than a 14pm haha

Both the XR and the 14 pro max has the battery capacity that gets you through the day without having to worry, since I work in a rough environment I sealed the lightning port on the pro max and I have only used a magsafe charger, it is so powerful that I have recorded in dolby vision with highest settings, edited and voiceover on the 1 hour video with iMovie, rendered it to video and uploaded it to youtube and I still had like 50% battery.
Dude, the Note 9 works just as well lol. It has better battery life too

Been using it for 4 plus years. It has been reliable without a doubt but lately its been heating up and freezing more than usual. Battery life currently at 81 percent and requires 2 times charge daily on moderate use. I think its pretty decent for 2023 but as a daily driver, probably not atm

There’s nothing horribly wrong with it, it gets the job done, and it’s just a little rough around the edges. But, well, I’ve had this thing for five years and other phones offer a lot of features I’ve found myself wishing I had.

yea bro i would just replace the battery. the camera and build quality are great and it still supported by most case manufacturers and can even fit in a regular X case and a 11 or 12 case i believe.

Who tf still uses a 720p LCD 60hz display in 2023 ? Dont even mention the bezels and the single bad camera with no optical zoom which even budget phones these days have better capabilities
And the slow charging speed lmao apple really charged 750$ to this crap for their iSheep back in the day
