I own one, "stepping back" from a 1100 Tuono V4 Factory. Totally back up your review. What a fantastic piece of engineering that ZX-6R is. You insisted on mid-range, but it is really only a bonus over its 16k rpm nobility. Appeals to no one today, but what a joy.
How is the „step back „ working out for you? I got the zx6r a month ago after selling my mt09 sp. love the stable feeling in fast corners, the breaks, gearbox and looks! Sometime i miss the torque tho. But letting that little i4 engine scream is just too addicting haha
@@markay_ I feel like I have taken a lot of freedom back. On a supersport we can adjust our lines anytime anywhere in corners, even (or especially) if we have misjudged the entry. Yeah, missing that instant wave of torque from the 1100 V4, best engine I have ever had. But the 636 is a great mill, 130 hp is plenty enough really. Overall the ZX-6R is a very well refined machine. Can't wait to put it on the track !
I have 2018 Ninja 400 abs (Black). I want to pull the trigger on buying the ZX-6R; however, its more then $14,000 cdn brand new here in Canada. Its a fairly big investment for me. I think it will be worth it though knowing the return I will get in pure excitement lol. Only live once. Cheers
The 636 offering more torque over 600's is not at all a new concept kawi has been making their 600 a 636 since 2003 for additional torque. Would be cool if we heard more about the actual changes to the bike for 2020 rather than decade old selling points of the 636.
@@MrB590 Half correct, half incorrect. It depends on where you live. In parts of the world, including all of North America, the first year of the 636 was the fuel injected 2003. Most people in those parts don't even know about the 2002 carbed model.
with modern emission regulations you can only dream of it being 10-15kg lighter. That being said, the price difference between the 636 and the R6 is enough to buy a full system + tune.
I owned the previous model (2013-2019) with the same engine for 2 years, and I can tell you it has power for days, you don't run out of power specially in 2nd and 3d gear. Maybe in a GP racetrack with long straights it would do with a little bit more, but you need to be really skilled to get there. Also, I now own a bimmer s1000xr and the ninja compared to this felt like a feather in weight, with some mods (exhaust, pegs...) you can make it even lighter
Im at 50 and got this bike this summer. I love it. So I wonder why you couldnt do it. If needed just shape a bit. This will for sure give you motivation.

Great video man! What do you think of her for taking long rides? I’m coming from my 650 2019 where I can easily make abt 900 kmts a day. I love sound and looks of the zx6 but I’m afraid of not finding her comfortable enough. Thanks!!
If you put on some Helibars it may make it more bearable, but the ZX6R is not going to be great for long rides unless you plan to stop frequently to give your back, knees, wrists a break.
Great review. I'm still torn between a 2013 zx6r, daytona 675 or CBR 600rr. I'm coming from a ZX7R, & would like a little torque, better on my wrists (especially clutch hand) & reasonably comfy seat for weekend ride outs (don't need to commute) I'm also 6ft1 tall. Do you have a recommendation on these bikes? Thank you
Not sure how hard you've been riding on the street, but mine gets way better fuel mileage than what you were saying. I get 120+ miles / tank no problem
Gotta learn to use the KIBS. Get to a parking lot that’s enough get ho to thirty , squeeze that tank with your legs and SLAM on those brakes progressively but sharply and hard Get used to a 100% stopping event. Then try it at 50% add a small swerve Then 100x bud then go ahead and try it while your steady turning . Try mashing the rear brake on a steady leaned turn . Then try some trail braking. Now make sure you have KIBS and not plain abs. But my bike with KIBS is amazing especially how you can brake in a turn without losing traction and without having the bike standup and run wide
I have a suggestion. To add to our viewing enjoyment do a quick look down at the bike i.e. tank etc.. Of course do that when its safe to do so like when your stopped at red traffic light waiting to go.
Yamaha stopped selling their R6 (only to race teams I believe) you may say the class is dead, though HOnda & Suzuki haven't updated their 600cc bikes in a long time. Triumph does now make a Daytona MOto2 but its 765cc. Though the fact you can get a under $10k bike (before other charges, of course), great bike. I had 3 ZX-6Rs, and I loved every one of them!
R6 class leading? Maybe for STRICT track riding. The 636 is a lot quicker in a straight line, it’s 10 seconds faster 0-160, 22 seconds vs the R6’s 32 seconds…
I just got my motorcycle license (Frist Time Rider) I went to a dealership yesterday. I talked to the salesman and he showed me a Ninja 650 for my first bike. But after talking to people and doing some research it seems like you have to redline the 650 to have any real fun? Is the ZX-6R a beginner bike and is a big difference in power between a 650 and ZX-6R.
Trust me, you probably should not start out on a ZX6R. I started out on a 125cc then went up to 250cc then 400cc and eventually 750cc and higher. I'm sure if I had started out on a ZX6R I would have either killed myself or totaled the bike or both. If you want something more thrilling than the Ninja 650, check out the Yamaha MT-07 or R7 (same engine more or less as the MT-07 but in a sporty chassis). I had an MT-07 not long ago and it was a blast to ride.
My historical purchase allegiance has generally been Kawasaki’s.. but their paint schemes on their sport bike range just don’t appeal like they used to.. I much prefer a solid all over ‘mean green’ colour than all the busy stickers. I’m sure I’d love the way it rides though.

@@UltimateEnd0 depends on what kind of riding were you thinking? Is it gonna be used a lot on the track? Or just street use mostly with one or two track days a year? If its more track use zx4r, if its more street then ninja
Cheers
One of my favourite bike. 🏍️😜❤️
TFT dash would be a welcome addition. but hey analog tachometer still rocks.
I used to ride a 750 but kaw doesn't make those anymore. This will be a great replacement
Couldn't resist myself from asking....
Was the sky really that blue..??
As long as you're not anywhere near Los Angeles, yes.
Nice review. You're developing your own voice and style rather than sounding like Adam Jr
The 636 offering more torque over 600's is not at all a new concept kawi has been making their 600 a 636 since 2003 for additional torque. Would be cool if we heard more about the actual changes to the bike for 2020 rather than decade old selling points of the 636.
Wrong 2002 they started the 636 which was the last of the carbed ones
@@MrB590 Half correct, half incorrect. It depends on where you live. In parts of the world, including all of North America, the first year of the 636 was the fuel injected 2003. Most people in those parts don't even know about the 2002 carbed model.
2002 was their first 636
@@CBRboy1717 now u know the rest of the world had the first 636 in 02
The selling point is still relevant. I was happy to hear about it. Stop using 'we'' when you meant 'I'.
Who love kawasaki motorcycle? Please raise your hands ✋ 😍
The 2005-2006 model is still by far the best looking.
The 03-04 was sexy too
13 to 18 is the best
Love the ZX-6R!
Great review looking forward to seeing more of your content.
Enjoyed the review, I'm considering this bike and liked what I heard.
Looms so much better than the one with the white at the bottom.
Great info and great video, love it!
Simple, always the best in the class!
He seems like the guy that would ask the teacher about a pop quiz on Friday
2021 Kawi line up coming soon? (Ninja 400 in that beautiful red)
Great bikes but just another face change I dream of a 600 weighing 10-15 kg’s lighter give it a TFT and another 15 hp.
with modern emission regulations you can only dream of it being 10-15kg lighter. That being said, the price difference between the 636 and the R6 is enough to buy a full system + tune.
@@Stratocasterhead51 that's basically all you have to do to make em great
I owned the previous model (2013-2019) with the same engine for 2 years, and I can tell you it has power for days, you don't run out of power specially in 2nd and 3d gear. Maybe in a GP racetrack with long straights it would do with a little bit more, but you need to be really skilled to get there. Also, I now own a bimmer s1000xr and the ninja compared to this felt like a feather in weight, with some mods (exhaust, pegs...) you can make it even lighter
I like the needle.
no hate. but i enjoy listening to you more than the other host
Do a MC Commute on a ZX14R please
That would be a short video lol.
hitting every red light lol thats my whole life
The front end looks funky
Nice bike wish I was 30 years younger 🙄 what a fantastic pice of kit 👍
playing bingo in an expensive retirement home is not living. go buy a ninja 400 and have fun.
Im at 50 and got this bike this summer. I love it. So I wonder why you couldnt do it. If needed just shape a bit. This will for sure give you motivation.
@@ninja1970fin I think that's how old i'll have to be before I could afford/ justify in the insurance premium on one. But great for you man!
@@alexduey7868 I’m 45 with no tickets on my record (knock on wood). My ‘09 R1 insurance is through Progressive and it’s very affordable.
57 here my freind, moved up from gixer 750 to an RSV4 Two years ago (both fantastic bikes). A bike will keep you young, and us old guys get a sweet deal on the insurance. Of course we all blow the savings on nice lids & leathers.
109 .7 HP does not sound similar to 100 HP. Moreover, that 6% bump in displacement apparently yielded 9.7% more HP..
Always like your reviews Michael. I had a 2009 ZX-6R. Great motor and brakes but lacking in nimbleness in my opinion. How's the handling on this one?
Handling is amazing
a very nice review. Very complete and appropriate for the subject.
Why don't they offer this motor in a more upright sport bike?
Great review. I'm still torn between a 2013 zx6r, daytona 675 or CBR 600rr. I'm coming from a ZX7R, & would like a little torque, better on my wrists (especially clutch hand) & reasonably comfy seat for weekend ride outs (don't need to commute) I'm also 6ft1 tall. Do you have a recommendation on these bikes?
Thank you
Not sure how hard you've been riding on the street, but mine gets way better fuel mileage than what you were saying. I get 120+ miles / tank no problem
I could get 180 miles out of mine being very gentle. There's loads of fuel left when it starts flashing.
one day, ima own this baby
my dream bike😍
I can’t wait for let’s ride track days to release their schedule so I can take my 636 to the track again!
You have a gorgeous bike in your picture there. Lol
I think you completely blue the stop sign at 7:08 stay safe !
Gotta learn to use the KIBS.
Get to a parking lot that’s enough get ho to thirty , squeeze that tank with your legs and SLAM on those brakes progressively but sharply and hard
Get used to a 100% stopping event.
Then try it at 50% add a small swerve
Then 100x bud then go ahead and try it while your steady turning .
Try mashing the rear brake on a steady leaned turn . Then try some trail braking.
Now make sure you have KIBS and not plain abs. But my bike with KIBS is amazing especially how you can brake in a turn without losing traction and without having the bike standup and run wide
Great review for ordinary everyday use . Thank you
Why do you guys all sound EXACTLY the same?? Is it a California thing, asking for a friend lol. Great review and I appreciate it.
I have a suggestion. To add to our viewing enjoyment do a quick look down at the bike i.e. tank etc.. Of course do that when its safe to do so like when your stopped at red traffic light waiting to go.
good review -at 10:10 did you have your blinker on before you pointed to the car without a blinker? really, I didn't see it on the display? thx
What's it's bore and stroke difference which contribute to the enhanced torque thru out?
IMO the front is too bulky, has a big head for the body. Previous gen was class.
Bro love form indian
Your video is nice
Love that gauge cluster
Great commute!
R6 class leading? Maybe for STRICT track riding. The 636 is a lot quicker in a straight line, it’s 10 seconds faster 0-160, 22 seconds vs the R6’s 32 seconds…
Looks okay but what would really help would be an exhaust which extends another foot behind the bike. 🤣
@ Reminds me of a scuba tank. 😂🤣😂🤣
Will be interesting to see the zx4r compared to this
I just got my motorcycle license (Frist Time Rider) I went to a dealership yesterday. I talked to the salesman and he showed me a Ninja 650 for my first bike. But after talking to people and doing some research it seems like you have to redline the 650 to have any real fun? Is the ZX-6R a beginner bike and is a big difference in power between a 650 and ZX-6R.
636 power is 127 hp
650 has 60 hp
Twice as powerful
Trust me, you probably should not start out on a ZX6R. I started out on a 125cc then went up to 250cc then 400cc and eventually 750cc and higher. I'm sure if I had started out on a ZX6R I would have either killed myself or totaled the bike or both. If you want something more thrilling than the Ninja 650, check out the Yamaha MT-07 or R7 (same engine more or less as the MT-07 but in a sporty chassis). I had an MT-07 not long ago and it was a blast to ride.
As long as u have self control and respect the bike and kts power ull be good.
Honda Goldwing and pick up dates
guys please zx-10r
My historical purchase allegiance has generally been Kawasaki’s.. but their paint schemes on their sport bike range just don’t appeal like they used to.. I much prefer a solid all over ‘mean green’ colour than all the busy stickers. I’m sure I’d love the way it rides though.
Excellent review thank you
I wish I had weather like that more often. Here in Ontario, Canada my riding season is typically April to November. What is yours ?

So, is the R6 really the class leading machine if you can't buy them anymore? I had both R6 & ZX6Rs. R66 is a great bike, but on the street, the Kawi is a better bike with its "cheater" engine. Love the new looks of it, and I actually went from a liter bike down to this 600cc machine!
