In 2021 Pep Guardiola lost the Champions League Final, and many people criticized him for his selection of the team, and how it was Man City's biggest chance to win the UCL after their great season domestically (PL, Carabao Cup) but they threw it away, and how Pep Guardiola was a failure at Manchester City and an overrated manager despite his success domestically. In 2023, Pep Guardiola proved them wrong by not only winning domestically (PL, FA Cup) with a very consistent team selection in a majority of the matches, including most of the big ones, but he also won the Champions League as well (a treble), for the first time in Manchester City's History. He may have spent a lot of money, but he has lots of trophies to show for it, which proves his ambition as a serial winner. Greatest. Manager. Ever.

We have seen so many mistakes from the opponent because of Silva's pressing ability and not only that with Silva we have extra man in defense because he covers everywhere on the pitch. For me , the single most important tactical change we made all season was the decision to start Grealish, and make him an integral part of the buildup. His ability to maintain possession, win fouls, and carry the ball forward made him the absolute dream outlet for expansion during transition. Stones and the system of defending in one shape and then attacking in another is only possible, or at least useful, when we have players like Grealish, Bernardo, and Mahrez who are such brilliant ball handlers that it lets us get settled. You could see our patterns of play shift into fullback --> midfielder ---> winger ---> midfielder ----> goal, with the wingers carrying the ball forward and constantly driving inside. Foden was simply incapable of driving inside off the left, or shielding effectively towards the line because he's left footed, and putting Grealish in completely revolutionized our comfortability in this new system, and allowed us to maintain dominance. Not to mention his chance creation, defensive work rate, and amazing positional play to spread the field, he has been such a brilliant player. For me, he is second to Rodri in this squad in terms of names on the team sheet, because he is the only man in the team that can do the job he does, and it is the backbone of making this system function.

I have watched football and premier league since the days its was EPL but let me make it clear Grealish jas been a rock on the wing for city. The qay city palyed later this season was all about possession and positional play. Had, grealish been an ordinary player, pep wouldn't have played him come what may. Apart from what was said in the comment, the ,primary role of grealish was to defend on the wing and not let a counter attack take place.

Aptly described. I followed pep tactics earlier in season. He alternated BTW 2-3-4-1(vs west ham) and 2-2-5-1(vs Bournemouth)in an highly ambitious attacking formation.
Walker played an inverted role , while cancelo was a left winger! This made the defence line thin.
It was after crystal place took a commanding 2-0 lead at half time in etihad, that pep repented for a more Conservative 3-1-5-1. I ddnt know why at the time but this channel indicated walker was useless in the pivot role

great analysis but i think one thing you missed was that walker didn't really play in the treble surge phase until ake got injured since pep actually preferred akanji at right back and ake at left back. another thing is the significance of having bernardo start at the right wing position over mahrez to aid the press

@@edvardhagerupgrieg724 No, they don’t. Pep has forgotten more about tactics than any other manager. It’s not close. Mourinho in his prime would play the same XI and same tactics every match if he could. Pep invents new positions, changes players positions, changes formations multiple times per season, finds the solution to problems other managers wouldn’t even notice. It’s not close.

Just like Pep up against all the premier league managers that have come and gone in the same 7-year span, what he has achieved in terms of influence, style of football, tactics and trophies is absolutely crazy. Money helps, but in Pep’s case it’s so much more than that.

I think your video is almost well cover, just forgot to mention city winger (grealish and silva) who are willing to defend. That is why mahrez and foden even when they are available rarely chosen as a starter because they lack the defensive that Grealish and Silva provided. However excellent video as always

When I saw everyone questioning Cancelo's loan I was genuinely surprised cuz people didn't get that he wasn't fitting the system. True his bold actions and the great of the pass made us win against Dortmund in the last minute but that always doesn't work. What is your analysis on why Walker didn’t start the final? Understand the Inter didn’t have the speedy forwards like Madrid, but felt we lost a bit of pace on the right. However, when Akanji decided to push further up we scored 😍

Walker was the a key when the opponent had a faster player like Sane Vinicius and more but against inter it was more physical and player like akandji and Nathan ake are more physical and adapted to this inter team so that is why it was no need for walker to start because they had 3 centers back playing and they did it very well
