  • David Yarrow and team head to Amboseli, Kenya, to photograph some of the biggest elephants in the world.
    The photograph, entitled “Space For Giants”, was taken during the COVID-19 pandemic in Amboseli National Park, Kenya, and is a portrait of one of the most famous remaining big tuskers in the world; Craig. Big Tuskers are a genetic variation of an elephant with tusks so long they reach the ground. All the remaining 20 or so big tuskers live in Kenya. ⁣⁣⁣⁣During the pandemic, we had the good fortune to spend several days with Craig. We see this image as the end validation of an investment of time, not just with this iconic elephant, but also with the good people of the Kenya Wildlife Service. We want to thank Daniel Kipkosgei, the Senior Park Warden at Amboseli, for his support and encouragement throughout the summer.⁣⁣⁣⁣This image involves a lot of fortune, most notably the clear early morning sky, allowing Kilimanjaro to add a layer of narrative and also the fact that we found Craig alone that day and in open ground. David estimates the odds of that treble to be around 25/1.⁣⁣⁣⁣2020 has reminded us all of the close relationship we still have with the wellbeing of the planet. We hope images like “Space For Giants” emphatically make the point that it is a relationship to be cherished.⁣⁣
    Space for Giants is a conservation organisation that protects the great wildlife landscapes that Africa’s remaining elephants need to survive and thrive.
    Space for Giants, in partnership with other reputable institutions, will also help to set up robust systems that will improve international policies for the protection of wildlife and natural ecosystems.

    Good to hear the truth about the negative impacts of the lack of tourism on the environment. Its similar here in the Philippines where, without tourist divers, the locals have no income, and marine sanctuaries become the best places to source food. Good to find this channel!!

      Anyone with bad intentions knows about this elephant already. The best way to protect him is to go and see him in person if you can.

      @@Gunners_Mate_Guns , Do you really believe that. The Namibian government gave permission to shoot a Desert elephant bull named Delta in 2014 inspite of repeated pleadings by international conservationists. The people of Africa don't have any idea about what they are doing.

    • @Gunners_Mate_Guns
      @Gunners_Mate_Guns 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ajeythomas2762 You need to provide more context about that.
      Controlled hunting of elephant past their breeding prime is actually beneficial to the herds, just as long as the numbers hunted are low and as long as it's backed by science, just as deer hunting in the U.S. is done.
      It may upset people who don't know all the reasons for it, but it is indeed true.

    I pray this herd will be protected from the harm of this filming.i saw larger elephants than this...are you really filming the tusk....I am so sad that the men who helped are not aware of the dangerous disposition that you put the herd into..what about the young babies..I cant get it..why the elephants!....I pray that man can let the animals be...just enjoy nature and love them and enjoy them in their natural habitat...it is part of a beautiful natural source to enjoy...it is called a beautiful life...I love the elephants. And I pray they will not be in harm's way..🐘🐘🐘🐘❤❤❤❤❤😍😍😍🐘🐘🐘🐘please keep them safe...

    Hopefully more Chinese and Japanese people donate since they're the ones driving the trade on ivory, illegally and legally (the Japanese claimed theirs is legal), so, go on, donate people so you can still have more tusks to harvest later on because God forbid these animals go on extinct as the rhinos are about to.
