The Makeover Challenge is one of my FAVOURITE challenges on Drag Race. But it is always my LEAST FAVOURITE judging criteria on Drag Race. Because season to season is always inconsistent. It's about family resemblance, yeah sure, family doesn't mean exactly identical, but twins exist. And it's not like the guest brought in to do the makeover challenge will look exactly like the queen. It just, ugh.
I hate the judging SO MUCH because the makeovers are literally my favorite episodes. The slander on this challenge solely due to judging is so sad to me :(
I think they know who they are going to choose and send home before they even arrive to film. Or at least a framework of understanding who gets a good or bad edit before even going in to filming
Here’s the thing, and I’m not making excuses for production. There is not a reality competition show, that ISN’T rigged. They have a plan from the jump off. You don’t think they know who they’ll boot off first? Production is there to produce a show. They want to make a memorable moment, because those moments mean money, and they keep the viewers watching. Does it suck? Yeah. But if someone doesn’t want to be used by production - there is an easy fix. Just don’t go on. It’s the risk they all take, especially the financial one. But it’s not like no one knows it’s rigged. The only way they MIGHT stop is if people stop watching - but that’s not going to happen. Because there is always new fans being introduced, and they’re not jaded like everyone else. I’ve been watching since 2010, when Logo would play a season 24/7. So I’ve seen a lot of mayhem.
This is why for me, that makeover challenge in season 2 of Canada’s Drag Race is the best, because they gave the stipulation of a good storyline, as well as a good makeover between queen and partner, that’s why Icesis was in the bottom even though she had the second best makeover.
I'm still surprised that people expect Drag Race to be some real fair competition when it's clearly a REALITY TV show - similar to ANTM. PS - If your make-over dude has muscles, cover them up!
Here’s the thing: if production wants to send you home on a week where you did well, and you have a good track record, maybe think about why they would want to do that. Loosey was so hungry for the crown that it rubbed the S15 girls the wrong way, and she threw tantrums if she didn’t get the roll she wanted. She should’ve realised how that would look on TV. “I did really well that week and shouldn’t have gone home. Production wanted me gone bc they knew viewers wouldn’t like me, bc of my behaviour on the show and how I worked with the other girls” isn’t the slay that she thinks she is. Was it rigged? Maybe. Wrong. The challenge asks for family resemblance. Her transformation was a copy and paste of her. Miss Lazy Susan looks related. Also Morphine’s had huge guns 💪🏼 and she didn’t give fish sadly
I think the show has changed so much since the early seasons. More rigged than ever, I get everyone has different opinions. But I think there’s been very wrong eliminations.
Yeah, I aggree that Plane shouldn't have win this challenge and it should've gone to q or nymphia. Plane Definitely did a safe job but it's literally the same bodysuit. They look more similar than shgar and spice do
It happens every season. One person gets negative critiques for something, and then someone else gets praised for doing the exact same thing. It always bugs me
I mean Loosey was never going to win her season, but the metric is very arbitrary. But also there’s plenty of creative ways to eliminate a specific queen. Just look at how dirty they did Dawn 😂
I think that ru sees the audition tapes pics who she already wants to win and then has her producers doing an entire storyline to make that person win. I think it was plain up until the finale.
This was the truth straight up. The whole thing is pretty much righed like all realitt tv is. But here is what saddens me, RPDR used to be fun campy entertainment where any drag queen could have a go at it no matter how much money ahe had. But now its kinda all about how expensive your outfit is and that makes me feel bad for the queens out there that can't afford to spend 6k on a garment. Its almost like they dont have a chance anymore. Ive watched plenty of videos of queens talking about this and its sadly true. Granted i think Drag Race is still amazing, i just wished it wasnt so rigged. I mean if you have a friend in there or love connection you already know that they will have to face off against eachother every season. I know from the get go when i saw Vanjie and Brooklyn that at aome point they were gonna be forced to go against eachother and i was right and right about it in every season since. If you have a deep connection with someone then they will be pitted against that person.
Literally none of season 16 made sense especially with the storylines. It’s one of the worst seasons in a long time. They were too busy rigging it for sapphira that they forgot to give the actual talent a storyline.
I love the makeover challenge, but it's definitely rigga morris. I think they should just do what they did on season 13 and have them do each other instead of strangers
i thought i was the only one.. not to mention, its literally the exact same outfit and makeup just different hair and very slightly different shoe. i knew i had seen it somewhere before where the judges made negative critiques to queens doing looks too close to their makeover guest. like... really? the EXACT same outfit and she won? i don't know. it somehow put a bad taste in my mouth.
The makeover challenge is one of those challenges that you know some questionable move is gonna be made, but it’s still upsetting, and it’s because of the inconsistencies in judging. Last season, I legitimately thought that either Anetra or Loosey would win because of how well they transformed their partners…and then Loosey landed in the bottom?? And got eliminated? I also remember in season 11 how Vanjie turned Ariel into her twin essentially, but she didn’t win. Like that was the opportunity to finally give her a (deserved) win, but they decided to give it to Brooke Lynn. Not that Brooke Lynn did terribly, she did well making over Plastique, but imo Vanjie did better a better job.
The makeover challenge is designed to let production manipulate outcomes. "Resemblance" is so vague that judges' comments are essentially unchallengeable.
It’s kind of the story telling too. I do think most of the makeovers wins are strange. Like Monet AS4, Jaida over Crystal…it’s really random. I guess it’s right what Lucy said.
The judging on the show is constantly inconsistent. Michelle Visage gave Vanjie critiques for same outfits, yet Kandy Ho never got critiques for doing the same thing.
I think the whole "they use this challenge to get rid of someone" thing has just been said so many times that people now think it's gospel. I've always loved the makeover challenge just because we get to see queens interact with people outside of the show, and sometimes they have great stories. I also think it's just a challenge that is so subjective to literally every individual who watches it that it can never really be even. That's just my thoughts.
You don’t get it… it’s about the full package… the complete performance and transformation. Who do you have fun to watch… it’s all about entertainment… it’s not science.
I think there’s definitely a difference in looking “just like each other” vs “identical.” Because usually the judges and ru say they’re looking for FAMILY RESEMBLANCE, not clones or a literal copy paste. The challenge is to adapt the queens makeup to a different face and bone structure. Maybe Loosey was in a was hindered by being so similar in result, but I also don’t really agree that Planes dancer’s makeover was significantly better than looseys. Planes looked like two besties followed the same makeup tutorial, whereas looseys looked like a “spot the 5 differences in this photo” game. It’s kind of a case of “I see what the judges are saying, but I’m not 100% on the same page as them.” Honestly both are pretty good makeovers overall IMO
I like the makeover challenge, but I think it needs to be judged like Canada’sDrag Race did in Season 4: less about resemblance and more about “can you deliver eleganza with/through your partner.”
I thought Nymphia or Q could win this episode by their outfits and makeovers, then Nymphia might also get 4 wins. But whatever, congratulations to our season 16 winner😊
She was eliminated and critiqued because she kept playing it safe. Period. Never stepped out of her comfort zone and challenged herself near the end, ie: interview challenge and makeup challenge
I’ve always said the makeover challenge should be non elimination to gives the queens a breather. It’s also awkward watching guests get judge or be the reason someone goes home.
I honestly don't enjoy drag race anymore. There are way too many seasons, too many spinoffs and production interference has never been worse. Queens deserve better.
In truth, the winner of this challenge was "Dawn from the future after hitting the gym" new stage name, Lazy Susan. Plane Jane got the win by association, as Rupaul and the judges were clearly obsessed.
I agree with Morphine’s critics. The proportions were off. The guy was too muscular, so covering it up with something was logical. 🤔 and it’s already over so move on (lucy cof cof)
Loosey is right. It didn't matter how plane did on this challenge because she won it in the werk room. When she made RuPaul laugh, it was over. The look wasn't anything exciting (like a lot of plane's runways) I honestly think Q should've won.
The critiques Morphine got were questionable for sure, what really made me frustrated was the fact they critiqued La Tina's body for not being womanly enough. Like La Tina had muscle and if i was Morphine I'd have shown it off too, not all women/queens are built like Jane and Susan...
Well, that would be due to the fact that 1) Morphine did a terrible job with the details and 2) Plane Jane did a fabulous job with the details. The details & choices made by Plane include things like covering/minimizing the shoulders, hair & makeup that minimized the masculine features & highlighted (created) feminine features, she succeeded on the *TWIN* aspect of their makeover challenge while being selective in the areas to differentiate.
yeah also almost every plane jane look was a bpdysuit, she even made a song abt it in the finale. in previous seasons, the queens would get criticized abt always wearing bodysuits... she got praised. idk, i liked her character but she was not top 3 material AT ALL. rigged af
I think they should find a way to judge it more fairly with a set judging scale…where we can see points for hair, points for makeup, points for outfits/styling, and points for charisma but only the queens competing. And they should throw the concept of it being a “family” in the trash. And just do some sort of joint concept to show off the queens creativity or humor. Much like Naomi Small’s makeover on all stars or Crystal Method’s.
Plane out performed morphine here hands down. Morphine’s makeup was obviously amazing but it was a bold risk to leave that giant man as uncovered as she did, and it didn’t pay off. Meanwhile, Plane styled her partner’s big ass body much better
Loosey should’ve been in the top 4. Mistress and Luxx should’ve been in the bottom. However, I think that Anetra and Plane winning is consistent. Both did the same shit. Now Anetra did better makeup on her partner, but her partner was a woman, Plane had to makeover a man whose face is so sharp it could cut diamonds.
Please continue to make Roscoe’s content. They’re trying us by now editing their usual videos for free subscribers which shortens the content we used to watch. It’s so annoying. If im going to watch summarized content, I’d rather watch Matt instead to save even more time.
The concept of a make over challenge is actually quite a great idea and most of the times the invitees are very interesting. However, the selection process, the edit and most importantly the judging is so ridiculous. Why can’t they just say “I didn’t like it” or “I thought it was bland compared to the rest”. They always have to come up with weird excuses to rig the bottom 2 for inconsistent and stupid “reasons”.

The makeover challenge is the most rigged of all. Completely true. The critiques make me confused each time. Morphine's makeover was gorgeous.
Literally none of season 16 made sense especially with the storylines. It’s one of the worst seasons in a long time. They were too busy rigging it for sapphira that they forgot to give the actual talent a storyline.
Everybody knows the "Makeover Challenge" is a piece of crap challenge. It is NEVER consistent on how it is judge.
Plane was the look, the attitude of the 2, they were like the twins from the sims, like i got the character
The makeover and Rusical for Loosey was so robbed!
This is so true. I never forget about the elimination of Denali in season 13 for absolutely no reason
I love the makeover challenge, but it's definitely rigga morris. I think they should just do what they did on season 13 and have them do each other instead of strangers
Loosey was unhappy with how a challenge was judged? Shocking.
Yep judging is whack, don't watch much anymore
I can't remember - Was Loosey's challenge a "Twin" (twinning) makeover???
There's a big difference! 🤗
I love watching this challenge, I hate the judging. It's Riggor Morris.
This!!!! I HATED that Plane was praised for ZERO creativity. Literally cut and paste. She should have been in the bottom
i thought i was the only one.. not to mention, its literally the exact same outfit and makeup just different hair and very slightly different shoe. i knew i had seen it somewhere before where the judges made negative critiques to queens doing looks too close to their makeover guest. like... really? the EXACT same outfit and she won? i don't know. it somehow put a bad taste in my mouth.
She's right. Makeover is the most rigged challenge ever *coughs in Rebecca Glasscock*
YEP! The makeovers' judging is just ambiguous and varies across the different editions. They'd rather call it 'Cloning' or Mini/Giant Me or just stop!
Same with Manila. Eliminated for a make over challenge same critique
Loosey did the brief perfectly, she was eliminated by production on purpose.
This is TV, not a fair game. I love these queens, but they are under the delusion of fairness. TV is not about EQUALITY.
Call them out, Loosey!!! Love this show but it's so fabricated.
Unfair critiques on drag race? What?! I could not believe it.
The makeover challenge is designed to let production manipulate outcomes. "Resemblance" is so vague that judges' comments are essentially unchallengeable.
Loosey imo won the challenge. Antra was good too. Sasha and Luxx btm 2. It was rigged asf
Totally agree!!! Justice for Crystal as well!
Agree, but Morphines makeover on her partner was ugly af
It’s kind of a case of “I see what the judges are saying, but I’m not 100% on the same page as them.”
Honestly both are pretty good makeovers overall IMO
The t🎉
The details & choices made by Plane include things like covering/minimizing the shoulders, hair & makeup that minimized the masculine features & highlighted (created) feminine features, she succeeded on the *TWIN* aspect of their makeover challenge while being selective in the areas to differentiate.
yeah also almost every plane jane look was a bpdysuit, she even made a song abt it in the finale. in previous seasons, the queens would get criticized abt always wearing bodysuits... she got praised. idk, i liked her character but she was not top 3 material AT ALL. rigged af
The whole show is becoming a tired joke. I’m just here for the gossip!
We been knew RPDR was rigged im just here for fashion and entertainment
Plane out performed morphine here hands down. Morphine’s makeup was obviously amazing but it was a bold risk to leave that giant man as uncovered as she did, and it didn’t pay off. Meanwhile, Plane styled her partner’s big ass body much better
Loosey's was not as good as she thinks.
Generally, that's her brand.
This show stopped being about competition and more for ratings after season 9
Loosey should’ve been in the top 4. Mistress and Luxx should’ve been in the bottom. However, I think that Anetra and Plane winning is consistent. Both did the same shit. Now Anetra did better makeup on her partner, but her partner was a woman, Plane had to makeover a man whose face is so sharp it could cut diamonds.
but didn't anetra win the challenge and her n her makeover partners were literally copies of themselves?
Please continue to make Roscoe’s content. They’re trying us by now editing their usual videos for free subscribers which shortens the content we used to watch. It’s so annoying. If im going to watch summarized content, I’d rather watch Matt instead to save even more time.
The concept of a make over challenge is actually quite a great idea and most of the times the invitees are very interesting. However, the selection process, the edit and most importantly the judging is so ridiculous. Why can’t they just say “I didn’t like it” or “I thought it was bland compared to the rest”. They always have to come up with weird excuses to rig the bottom 2 for inconsistent and stupid “reasons”.
mistress isabelle brooks should’ve been in the bottom 2
