The King Elvis Presley once said that Anne Murray's voice was the most beautiful voice he'd ever heard. True story. And he was spot on. She also happens to be my "Aunt Annie"... my Aunt was one of Anne's good friends. My childhood in the 70s was so much richer with this amazing woman in my life.
I was born in 94, and I'll be eternally grateful my mother listened to such an eclectic playlist, I was able to get to know Anne Murray, The Cranberries, Kate Bush, so many amazing sources of beautiful music.
I remember when I first heard Anne Murray sing; I was just a kid but I found her voice utterly captivating. Still do. She didn't need pyrotechnics, multiple mics, hype men or a DJ, she herself was the show, that was all those people paid to see and hear- a pure songstress. So rare these days.
Tonight I wondered, ‘Whatever happened to Anne Murray?’ This is the first time I have heard her sing in 20 years. Probably did not appreciate her music as much I should have. Then again I was a child when she was a superstar. This does bring back the memories.
Just brings the warmest memories of the 70s on our family farm hearing these songs over the one speaker radio in our country kitchen. I miss our home then and my parents.. may they rest in peace. :'(
I was on the front row and am clearly seen in the audience for 20 seconds. God I was young!!! Got to shake her hand took her band to the hotel in our music store van. There are four stages as I recall. I was sadly in the last row to watch Jefferson Airplane with Papa John Creach on jazz/rock violin but suddenly lights went on behind us and we swiveled our chairs around and voila--I'm in the front center row and she starts singing. Wow--what a setup!
I've taken note over the last couple of years of actors, actresses, and singers from two places in particular -- Canada and Australia. There's just something uniquely special about many of them. Anne Murray is one of the very special singers from Canada. Judith Durham and her group "The Seekers" are a very special Australian group.
Genius, to Kenny Loggins...'genius'...and of course to Anne Murray...our Canadian Icon, I adore, respect and love her and everything she does and sings. I would love to hear and see her live. She's brilliant! Her respect for all of the songs she sings, her empathy behind them and where they originate from is beyond considerate and kind.
Love how the audience is fixated on her and listening intensely. That shows a real appreciation for the talent on the stage. These days, half the people would be missing the show, trying to video it with their cell phones. The other half would have their faces buried in the cell phone, checking on their Twitter messages. Sad.
@@johnnyrotundo6483 They have a different pitch, but I would say a similar timbre, which the original comment made sure they specified at the end. They don't sound the same, they're reminiscent of each other in how they control their breathing and how they round their notes.
Anny surly had the quality to raise the spirit when any individual felt little down........ what a beautiful voice she had...... lucky enough to hear her.
Anne did a wonderful interview with Tom Power on CBC's "q" this morning. I have new appreciation for our Canadian "Snowbird." Her voice is so rich, warm and pure. This is one of her best songs, just beautiful!
There is only one thing I can say…. Since I grew up with her in the 70s, but born in the early 60s, OMG!!! OMG! OMG!!!!! All music in that era was fantastic! You’ll keep hearing it well into the 22nd century! Bad thing is that , our lord didn’t arrange things so that she would be mine, and I’m not alone in that sentiment !!!!🤠🇨🇱🇺🇸
I'm watching The Midnight Special (20 DVD set) and it's incredible. She hosted 3/2/1973 which is where they filmed this. She also sang Snowbird to open.
She's definitely in the top ten voice wise in country music ,Don Williams ,Patsy Cline Johnny Horton Jim Reeves Ronnie Millsap, Marty Robins Hank Thompson, TomT Hall Hank Sr. Ann. Murray.
My favourite family guy is the “snow bird” episode, where stewie converts Brian to an Anne Murray fan lol. Who could even be a hater, she’s the greatest!
I remember when I was pregnant for my first child many many years ago and thinking this song for me because I think I’m going to have a son. Turned out I had three daughters.
When this song came on as kids we knew we had 2 options. Leave the house for the day or stay and help mom clean. No one wanted to stay. Not because we didn't want to. We couldn't meet her standards and end up getting kicked out for the day anyway. She would spend hours cleaning and rearranging the house blasting only Ann Murray music.
Today’s generations have been cheated of being able to live the simple life thanks to an ever accelerating pace of technological Hoopla that robs us of the time to stop and even clear ones head and think: That’s the Sadness I head in today’s “music and social scene”
Anne sings effortlessly, she and Karen Carpenter sing like angels.
@MsCoffeecol-Karen Carpenter has the most beautiful voice ever recorded,in my humble opinion.
@@davidh6818
We had so many to choose from. Don't forget Linda Ronstadt, too
@davidh6818 me too. Karen was the best of all time. Anne had the closest quality of karens

Anne Murray was Elvis' favorite female vocalist. Absolutely have to agree.
ahhh man the memories of my youth. My mum loves this song. we would sing this while driving .
Her speaking voice is so soothing.
As is her singing voice.
No kidding!
I was in a store in Lafayette, IN when I first heard her on the intercom. I remember it well. Musta been around 1970, give or take a few years.
She sounds exactly like Karen Carpenter.
The same for me, at the sound of her voice, I just sto and listen. A true artist!
The most crystalline notes ever. Pure voice.
This is the best version of the song.
Her voice really stays with you. What's funny is how deep she talks in her speaking voice.
Listening to her sing is like coming home again
Happy 79th Birthday Anne Murray!(Born June 20, 1945)😃🥳🎂🎉🎊🎈🎁🍾🥂🎀🌷🌹💐👍👏🙌
I agree with Elvis, Anne Murray,s voice is the best i have ever heard
Tonight I wondered, ‘Whatever happened to Anne Murray?’ This is the first time I have heard her sing in 20 years. Probably did not appreciate her music as much I should have. Then again I was a child when she was a superstar. This does bring back the memories.
In this day and age its so awesome that we can fall back and listen to the real legends of music and back when music was a top 40 of 40 hits
Reminds me of far better days than the present.
Oh yeah way better

While I do love her rendition of this song, she’s lip syncing to a previously recorded track.
Don't forget the people in the audience who shout "woo" during the performance.
Pure bliss, love Anne’s singing!
Great music and singing like this does not exist anymore.
Sadly she was discouraged from singing lower register because people didn't want her femininity questioned...she had a remarkable range
Anne murry a good old Canadian my mother use to listen to her all the time as I was a young child in the early 80's
Reminds me of Karen Carpenter's voice. Very smooth.
no, totaly different timber, but both their voices are just lovely. makes you believe in a God, to have such beauty come out of a human being.....
Both are absolute favorites of mine.
A duet would've been interesting

She hosted this episode of Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack (March 2, 1973) and also sang Snowbird. She was so pretty then, age 28.

Absolutely lovely. Anne had a way of delivering a song that was both romantic and sexy at the same time. (A lethal combination for a man!)
So peaceful!
Omigosh I love this song so much!! I've been singing along to this since the 70s. Such an easy melodic song to sing along to. :)
She can sing anything and she'll sound warm and elegant. A great voice.

People smile and tell me I'm the lucky one
And we've just begun
Think I'm gonna have a son
He will be like she and me, as free as a dove
Conceived in love
Sun is gonna shine above
And even though we ain't got money
I'm so in love with you, honey
And everything will bring a chain of love, oh, oh, oh
In the mornin', when I rise
You bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be alright
Seems as though, a month ago, I was Beta-Chi
Never got high
Oh, was a sorry guy
Now, I smile and face the girl that shares my name, yeah
Now I'm through with the game
This boy'll never be the same
And even though we ain't got money
I'm so in love with you, honey
And everything will bring a chain of love, oh, oh, oh
In the morning, when I rise
You bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be alright
Pisces, Virgo rising is a very good sign
Strong and kind
And the little boy is mine
Now I see a family where once was none
Now we've just begun
Yeah, we're gonna fly to the sun
And even though we ain't got money
I'm so in love with you, honey
And everything will bring a chain of love, oh, oh, oh
And in the morning, when I rise
You bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be alright
Love the girl who holds the world in a paper cup
Drink it up
Love her and she'll bring you luck
And if you find she helps your mind
Better take her home, home, yeah
Don't you live alone
Try to earn what lovers own
And even though we ain't got money
I'm so in love with you, honey
And everything will bring a chain of love, oh, oh, oh
In the morning, when I rise
You bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be alright
