Just bought 2005 Ex-l in December of last year for $3500. I love it. Very happy with it. I live in New York and had it parked in my church’s outdoor parking lot. One day, I had to get it out to take my family to Walmart. I just press VTM-4 Lock button, go to the 2nd gear and it drove out of the snow with no problem. For repairs, I replaced power steering pump, timing belt and serpentine belt, and water pump. I also used it to haul boxes to feed the community with my church. Like I said before, I’m very happy with it.
Yeah found the rear frame issue and hopefully I can get local shop to repair it. Seems to be the only location for rust issues so far (rear driver side crossmember/sub assembly front mount is hanging down) then I'll proceed to to provide proper drainage and hopefully avoid further problems. Like the vehicle and want to get a lot more miles out of it, currently at 227K in Wisconsin. And by comparison among other brands I think I'm doing pretty good with this truck. Thanks for the insight- -most appreciated.
2005 Pilot owner. My overhead started to disintegrate around age 10. She’s served me well so far, just hit 290k miles. Started bucking yesterday so I’ll need to look into that asap.
My 03 is my first vehicle and also a gift I can say I love it to death never leaves me stranded if it does it’s my fault before I got it the transmission went bad twice due too lack of transmission fluid changes but since she’s been in my hands runs like a true champ she’s now a show car with the OEM engine that has 337,000 miles and she still rides smoother than a Bentley!!
Wow!! I'm the same as you! Have an 03 that I love to death and its in perfect shape! I bought it from a lady who took really good care of it and it has 338k on it. But it just purrs and still feels new! None of these problems exist in mine (knock on wood) its also black so havent seen any paint issues. Best truck ever!!!
Good list, thanks dude! The frame rot is really disturbing. I test drove a Pilot and something was really off with the way it handled on the road. Upon closer inspection the entire undercarriage frame was rusted out. Now this is the first thing I check! Cheers
Absolutely love your channel. Just bought a 2007 pilot with 197k on the clock gonna do a timing belt on it as soon as I get my tax refund. Absolutely love this little car.
How about the power steering whine? Replace the o-rings on the power steering pump lines where they connect at the pump. Keep up the good work. 07 EX-L here.
Great Video! Nailed 4 problems on my 2006 Honda Pilot. (1) Silver coating on the Honda emblem on the steering wheel. (2) Sagging headliner. (3) Bad Cat Converter (4) Bad TPMS sensors. You know what? It's nearly 17 years old with 223k on the odometer with 30k added since November of 2021 alone. Runs like a dream! I don't care about (1). I don't care about (2). I'll replace (3) in a little bit because it's not bad, just less efficient according to the code . And when I get my new set of tires in a few days the sensors will be replaced as well. As for the other issues you listed that will be on my radar now since this is my 1st Honda Pilot (I've owned 2 other Hondas, a 1995 Odyssey and a 2002 Civic which dropped the transmission which is why I bought the Pilot). I am now a subscriber because of this video and also your upgrade ideas in your other videos as I want to make my Pilot a project vehicle and give it to one of my kids in a couple of years. Thanks for sharing your Pilot knowledge!
I bought my wife a 2004 pilot in 2010 with 50k miles. I have kept meticulous care of it and my wife still loves the car with 220k miles. I have had to do very little maintenance beside the normal wearable items like fluids brakes etc. One item you didn't mention which is a huge problem for all hondas is the ignition switch. The wafers and springs inside the ignition lock cylinder come loose and jam, not allowing the cylinder to turn. Its a 300 to 700 dollar repair depending on where you take it. Plus a tow, because it usually fails at an inconvenient time. Also another honda weak link is the transmission. Not so much in the pilot but please keep up with your transmission fluid changes. Also, if you are comfortable doing work on your car, pull the shift solenoids out and clean the screens. They can build up with clutch debris and can cause erratic shifting causing you to think you have a serious transmission issue when you might not. And yes, timing belt changes on schedule are critical. Get a good brand and get the full kit. Full kit should include belt, tensioners, water pump, valve cover gaskets, cam seals and lower seal. Don't cheap out on this. And when you do the timing belt you are also supposed to adjust the rocker arms. Thats why good kits come with valve cover gaskets. As for the subframe area that pools water. Just drill a small drain hole. And paint where you drilled so it doesn't rust. Cheers. P.S. dont buy shitty parts from scamazon. Your car will treat you as well as you treat it.
I own the first gen Honda pilot. 2004 honda pilot ex. Owned it since 2004, with only 40 something miles at the time. Just hit 100,000 2 years ago, and I only put another 11k miles since than. No problems. Change the oil regularly, timing belt every 100k miles, all fluids, atf every 60k miles never had 1 problem with my pilot. Easily the best vehicle I have owned in my lifetime
Purchased my 05 Whit EX-L with 119K now has 223K Here's my maintenance List : mostly common maintenance. -Valve Adjustment -Timing Belt, Water Pump, Spark Plugs -Alternator -Starter Motor -Rear Shocks and struts -Alignment -Power Steering motor -Top compression Hose and bottom rack and pinion passenger side. -Oil and filters -Brake Pads Front 70K -Rear pads... about time for new ones.. haven't changed in over 100K ! Still good. Surprising areas I have not had to take care of: -CV Joints ?? Still Good -Honda Symbol on Steering wheel? Perfect -Leather interior? Still amazing No cracks or tears. -Creeks or noises? Still quiet as she purrs down the road. :) -Disc Rotors? They may need to be turned now.. will check on the next maintenance Just to name a few. Despite some issues with these vehicles.. they are capable, comfortable, quiet, and great daily commuters with surprising offroad capacity. -
Got my 2006 pilot 4WD 2 years ago with 270 thousand miles, a shot in the dark honestly. Fell in love the moment I test drive it tho. Had some ac issues that are fixed, had to get a new rack and pinion, very costy but still worth it. Now with 312 thousand miles still runs like it has less than 100 thousand miles, absolutely great machine Honda made. Next change will be the timing belt for sure. I’m currently having issues with the truck locking system though, the trunk won’t open.
OMGGGG. I was going crazy with the tire pressure symbol. Btw my 07 steering wheel emblem has warn off too. I used silver chrome paint marker and it makes me feel better lol.
@@GotterAdventure Hey Hpo, the frame rot on the cross member. Could i just drill a hole in it. Kind of like a weep hole from pooling water right there. Do you think that is a good solution?
My rear a/c conditioner blower on my 2005 honda pilot was not working. So I replace a new transistor for the blower. It works now but it makes a rattle noise when I turn it on. But it goes away when I increase the air volume. And I replaced a new starter. Thanks for the tip on the tire sensors.
2004 EX-L. My driver's door lock cylinder gave up. I managed to get the alarm sounding with no way to shut it off but disconnecting the battery. Got new lock cylinder today, installed and somehow shut off alarm. I do love this vehicle!
Have 06 Pilot. Been having issue with engine Intermittently shutting off. Someone had recommended me to replace the Catalytic converter. You make things very clear. I may not need to get a new car after all. Thanks Aaron
@@GotterAdventure thanks Asron. Doing research on rooftop weekender camper lead me to your channel. I'm very excited to see your journey. Any plans on rooftop camper?
They have window issues. My 07 with 160,000 miles has only had one window fail and I now need a new headliner, no other issues. The Honda emblem on the steering wheel is in new condition, it hasn’t been garaged since 2013 when I bought it. Good video!
I have a 2006 Honda pilot and some time driving it feels like it slides in the front end ? I have had rack and pinion replaced and front end eliminate new tires , doesn't do
Just bought a 2007 Honda Pilot. But I kept telling dealership I needed alternator welp they had me buy battery yesterday n att went today had be Towed home other then that I love it. It’s black with 7 seats & built in dvd
dude, that ac blend motor, I've been trying to figure out what that noise was for the longest time. Just ordered the part. Thanks dude. my right rear shock mount just broke right off. that was a surprise. if you do the timing belt/water pump yourself, don't bother with a impact for the harmonic balancer. spent days on it with that. got the tool for it, and used a breaker bar and it came right out. lots of frustration on that.
08 Honda Pilot recently purchased from family member that was garage kept. 85,000 miles. Even then I have replaced power steering pump and high pressure hose. Power steering rack and pinion. Alternator, shocks all around they were all blown very bouncy. Cold hot AC motor does make the gurgles so that will probably be on the list. I am told the timing belt was done previously but this is coming from my old family member that doesn’t know cars too well not saying I do either but u get it. Hopefully I’m done with the major stuff. Love the car it’s pristine inside and out breaks my heart to see beat up ones. This car aged well I find it to be the more economical 4Runner. My other vehicle is a Tundra but I daily drive this much better to zip around downtown Miami in the mornings.
2007 Honda Pilot owner I’m at 325k sometimes when in 4wd an backing up then changing to drive I get a grinding / locking up sound but goes away after I full stop
My pilot also suffered from the body rot on that part near the subframe! Fixed it similar to yours. My interior door handle chrome peeled off and got some eBay ones. Love your videos, keep it up!
My 06 pilot has tpms issues. Very common for older hondas too. I gotta get new tires soon so i hope to have a shop install new sensors with them. I also love your build and i hope to one day jack my pilot up a few inches and get dirty with it!
Our 06 that we bought in 08 with 28k miles has had this issue the whole time. My local honda dealer told me they could do nothing about it back then and that was when i still had factory warranty. 197k miles now and we finally got me wife a new 23 Elite.. so i get to play with this now Wahoo!!
The steel impact beam behind the rear bumper tends to rust badly up north where we get the annual salt/brine baths. I bought a replacement impact beam from Ebay for $120 shipped. Mine leaves rusty potato chip size pieces wherever I park....LOL
I guess we have been lucky, as the only issue we have had on this top 10 list in the HVAC blend mechanism. Installed a $20 part off of AMZN, instead of the $200+ Honda part. Easier to do than re-build it at this point. Although there are some great youtube videos on rebuilding it!
Consider installing a rock guard in the lower grill to protect the radiator and ATF cooler. I got a dent in mine. I used an APS lower bumper billet grille insert and it worked great.
You forgot to mention the cheap leather on the front seats and the yellowing plastic on the headlights. These are pretty solid cars if they are cared for (timing belt, transmission fluid changes regularly, suspension maintenance etc). I had a 06 EXL that was flawless at 140k miles, I regret selling it. Now I have a 05 with 194, and it runs and drives excellent but needs the front suspension rebuilt. I honestly recommend one of these to anyone over any early Ford, GM and especially Dodge/Chrysler SUV.
@@pennyprince No it was done by the previous owner at 177k. I'm only at 213k now. Still got a long way to go. If you're worried about yours, go ahead and do it. The timing belt job is WAY cheaper than a new engine or rebuilt heads.
hi! I have a pilot since 2007 in Russia, he himself is 2003 and there are no such problems as you have on the video at all))) I do not know how you mock him there, but I take care of him) my mileage is 180,000 miles, the car is fire and the best) good luck
Great list of PITA stuff with the Pilots. Just a note of clarity there is a transmission cooler on them but you are correct a supplemental one is always a good idea. if you live in a northern climate the fluid should go through the supplementary one first then through the rad one to make sure the fluid doesn't get to cold in the winter. The strawberry milkshake many have heard about is where the coolant and trans fluid mix in the rad when the cooler seals fail. If your rad has pressed in tubes for the trans cooler replace it with one that has nuts holding the cooler into the rad tank. The pressed in ones corrode and push out allowing the seals to fail between the coolant and the trans oil.
Here's a follow up to my unibody repair. I was told by mechanics that I needed to seek a "small body shop". When I did so I was told by some that it was a 4K to 5K fix which would far exceed the value of the vehicle. I chose to reel it back and seek other solutions. I searched chassis repair and frame repair. also shops that deal with axels might be a good choice. I'm afraid that a lot of these vehicles are winding up in the salvage yards because of the gloom and doom being delivered by techs working in a field that is unassociated with the repair that is required. They simply don't now what the proper fix might be. When I found the right shop they told me flat out that it was $650 per side and luckily only one side needed the work but they wouldn't know until the work was started. My pilot is handling much better and is now worthy of a new set of tires.
My 2004 Pilot drivers side seat belt would get wet in a heavy rain ???? I removed the rail cover on the roof rack and saw a very fine crack in the weld for the bolt support. I gave it a good cleaning and caulked it with silicone. So far so good!
Had the issue with catalytic converter code when I bought my 07 exl 3.5 4wd fixed it my self by using a bottle of cata-cleaner 3 times and seafoam. I would dump a bottle of cata-cleaner in tank when my gauge would read 1/4 tank drive to gas light came on filled tank up with premium gas then dumped a bottle of seafoam in it. I did it every other month and still fill my pilot up with premium and I haven't had no issues since. My only concern with my pilot is wanting to put leds in my tail lights and break light and can't find ones that dont cause hyperflash and don't let break lamp light come on. I bought some and the hyperflash happened and break lamp light came on. Bought to be doing a 2.5 inch lift on my pilot can't wait.
Awesome! When you do the lift make sure your rear toe adjustment bolt is not seized. I would also recommend camber bolts in the front and the adjustable control arm for the rear.
Sorry forgot there was a 5th issue. The HVAC blend motor issue. Mine sounds like an old perculating coffee maker. Annoying, but not like "Annoying Orange" annoying. So far only "paper cut" issues with mine. But will definitely check on the frame rot issue. I bought mine used last year before I found your site so didn't know to check. As I said below you've got a subscriber now !
2005 Piot owner here. I bought mine with 138k and since then replaced 2 TPMS sensors, replaced starter, i replaced the Tbelt, and the PS pump orings. . The valve cover gaskets also tend to leak over time. It's a solid SUV but like all other vehicles that are that old need some TLC
I have a 2004 with 300,000 miles always runs great but have a starter problem now, It starts after sitting a while then if I turn if off and then try to restart it won't start. They had a locksmith work on the ignition and it worked for a few months now back to the same problem. I want to sell it but don't want someone else to have the same problem.
I had a 2003 and got 212k before a shift solenoid went out. the frame was rusted where you pointed out it was old. But still probably the best vehicle Ive owned. Nothing major went wrong since basically new and it did live in a heavy salt belt and we did neglect to wash it often so I cannot fault the car. 212k and just under 20 years is a pretty good lifespan for a car.
(2005 pilot) Just had my radiator replaced and now my engine light flashes a few times when I start it and my gym-4 light comes on sometimes, never did that before!!!
Bought my 04 pilot in 2008 with 78k miles now she has 242,678 miles and only problems I’ve had was my transmission went out and the fuel pump relay went out I suggest u replace those cause they will leave u stranded very easy/cheap fix along with the engine mounts! My timing belt snapped on me at 230k once but I got lucky I didn’t damage the engine and she still rolling would def recommend this car to anyone
Currently at 227k with my '07 pilot and I've gotten the p0420 code twice now but its disappeared after a day. Live in California and she just passed smog a few months back.
My 05 Pilot with 256k miles makes a knocking noise over bumps. Front end is tight, including the ball joints and lower A-arms. I wonder if strut mounts would cause the knocking. How would I know, or is there anything else to check?
Rear ac went out, it’s a fairly common issue. Thankfully, the fix is a resistor replacement that just screws in and and out and you can get the part for 5 bucks at a junkyard
Just bought a 05 2 days ago. My first import. Need to learn more about her. Not off road but fly hip hop type. Im 52. So no games. Just wanna learn more about my Miss Ma!
Hey, thanks a lot for your videos! We bought a Pilot 2007 about a year ago and so far we have been dealing with 3 issues. TPMS (I already took notes about the 7 years life for the sensor and to change it preferably when buying new tires). A second issue is the leaking oil, I saw some videos that talked about changing a plastic (do not recall the name) but it has like 6 holes and looks really simple and cheap to replace with a new one (oil filter was also recommended to have it changed). The third issue we are currently dealing with is the VSA warning error. I have noticed that when I turned to the left or right, the error VSA on dashboard is displayed and then it feels like pilot can't move/accelerate. What I do is set on parking, turn off the vehicle and turn on again. This happens around 3-4 times every time I use my pilot. Some say it is due to a disbalance support, some say you have to change bulb (part no. 37250-PNE-G01), any advise you have on this is GREATLY appreciated. In the next days I will take it to a shop, but I would like to have a better understanding and concrete ideas of how to solve this issue as I would not like to pay excessive fees. Again, thanks for your educational videos!
On my Pilot VSA can be disabled with a Pilot. Until you can find the cause of the VSA error turning off the VSA will allow you to make turning and accelerating more safe. I have a rare intermittent issue with this that I have not tracked down yet. My research seemed to indicate it could be a sensor in the steering. I am sure there is a way to read codes/ perform a diagnostic to see where the fault lies. The oil leak could be simple, or it could be harder to deal with. My Pilot is currently leaking from the rear main seal. I plan to fix this when/if my transmission goes bad. In the meantime I just keep an eye on my oil levels. It is a pretty slow leak.
Thank you. For the leaking problem I am hoping it gets repaired with a gasket replacement, if not I read some other solutions like replacing the hose or the ATF pipe (they get rusty). The parts are not as pricey as I thought ($30-$60). About the TSA, I am gathering some ideas on what could be the cause, so I can give this info to the shop (hopefully they do not get offended, as I am just trying to help).
I have a 2003 Honda Pilot the passenger rear window I can hear the motor running but I die the wind of window not going up or down not sure what happened or what's going on can you please help me with this😅
2008 Pilot EX-L 4x2, 3rd owner but I've had driving access since new. Rear suspension sag - accidentally had 4wd springs installed, mislabeled. Issue - leak on front floorboards, both sides. Sealed both sides under fender with sealer and plugs. looking into moon/ sunroof leak, evident with water at hood release. looking for schematic for location and routing of drain hose. 117,000 miles, no major problems, only general maintenance.
Only problem I have is with the inside lights. I know it has to do with the head unit above the rear view mirror, but I'm going to try to take it apart and see if I can fix it. If not, I'll replace it. I feel very lucky because I have not experienced any of these other problems. 2004 bought at an auction. replaced the battery and charged the A/C every summer over the last 3 years. Not bad for $1500.00 4 years ago.
I like videos you do! You are one of the best Pilot blogger I've seen. Please continue. I am Pilot 2 driver and would be nice if you update your Pilot to second edition ;)
Hi, please I observe my 06 pilot jerks when switching gears. It runs good though. I have changed the gear switch twice and same issue persist. Any advise?
There are some known issues with the transmission on the real early pilot transmissions. There was a recall on the 03 i beleive and i wonder if it might be in later ones as well. Check your vin on the nthsa website and dig in and find out if the vehicle was ever involved
@@richildblackfire806 The issues were mostly fixed by the transmission overhaul in the 2005 Pilots, then the trans was redesigned for the 2006 Pilots which eliminated pretty much all the failures.
I got a 2006 honda pilot my engine light comes on itts reading a stuck value on bank 1 I checked it and got another part cylinder and still it will go wen I turn it off the engine light but wen it get really hot it just break down its speed and Studdard and putting an want go can u help me
My 2008 Honda Pilot for some reason every time I turn go at 10 mph on a turn it wants to shake bad and it won't get into its gear. Even when you press the brake hard the car shakes
I have a 2003 pilot. It starts to shake sometimes violently at speeds over 50 only when i am on the gas pedal even if I'm only trying to maintain speed as soon as I let off the accelerater it stops and is smooth again. I have replaced the outer tie rod and wheel bearing. Both had play in them but didn't fix the problem.
I changed my battery but my headlights are flashing the dashboard arms on the indicators and clicking noise. It only goes off when I turn the Honda off and leave the lights in on position. Please help
Help my 07 pilot won’t turn back on I was driving and came to a stop and the car never moved after that had a mechanic look at it and run diagnostics it called for the camshaft sensors and 02 to replaced which we did still no start replaced the spark plugs and valve still no start spread the vent to see if was the fuel pump still no start I’m stuck my car tries to start but won’t crank over
Nail polish! Use 120 grit or higher sand paper to prep the emblem. Be very careful to not sand on the steering wheel itself. Won't look PERFECT, but it at least won't look noticeable.
Just got an exl 2004 with 69000 miles frame look good notice a pop every once and awhile making turns other than that runs great. Any advice of maintenance I should do?
please sir my 2007 Honda pilot check engine light is on and when scan to check what is the problem is showing cylinder 123456 misfiring, i replace the nozzles, the spark plugs, and the coils yet it still showing the same cylinders misfiring. please what else do i need to do
Have a 2006 Pilot with 242k miles. Bought it at 100k eight years ago. Had to replace the timing belt and water pump at about 170k, way past the recommended time. My TPMS sensors went out and my mechanic wanted $300 to install all four. I passed, since I can manually check the air on the tires regularly. Is that too old school? We also have the gurgling noise, that we couldn’t figure out - so grateful for your video. We are also repairing the rear axle next week and we’re grateful that this was repairable as the rest of the vehicle is in decent shape still. One issue we haven’t figured out is slightly flickering lights when idling. Any ideas?
Transmission is an issue. I have a '04 pilot my motor mounts had to be replaced recently. After those were replaced now there is a squeak and grinding noise when I push the accelerator. Hoping it not the gear box.
Yikes getting a pilot possibly today same year and I’m skeptical what could be wrong with it has 150k mileage and new A/T tires for around 3500 , how do you feel about that?
Hi body , I have a ho da pilot 2007. The first gear go to he'll and I have to put gas to start move very sllow. O change the trans speed sensor , and nothing more show on the scanner . I dont change the trans oil our filter . Do you think this can help ?
oil pump failure from using quick lube shop recycled oil and the wrong weight. its crucial to use the 5w-20 not 5w-30 or anything else. had an 06 that failed because of this but I'm now thinking of adding a pressure gauge to my 05
Great Video. I have a 2007 Pilot and love it even at 201K on the miles. I live in NJ and currently have a problem with the engine indicating that is it overheating when in stop and go traffic. Had my mechanic(over 20 years now) take a look at it and he could not find a problem. He ran it for over an hour, the indicator indicated that it was getting hot and got to 3/4, then the fan spun on and it cooled right down. Coolant was changed in the fall. All hoses are in good shape and the engine has oil. Radiator was replaced last summer. Any ideas would be appreciated.
When the radiator is cool open it and see if it is full of fluid all the way to the top. It is possible for a head gasket leak to allow exhaust gas into the radiator. The gas displaces the fluid and reduces efficiency.
@@GotterAdventure - Thank You. Didn't realize that the anti-freeze had dropped so significantly. I filled it up and the issue has gone away. I hope I have not damaged the engine. Much appreciated. Stan.
So I have a 2004 with 250k. It has non of the above problems except the actuator is just starting to go. Honda emblem on steering wheel looks like new.
Mine now throws out very hot air from the ac/heating center vent. It's happened now about a half dozen times now. Turning it off, And restarting it - for now does recover the functionality (until it decides to do it again). Anyone have any ideas?
Hi my 2007 pilot overheated now engine wont run when cranking i can hear coolant reservior bubbling if its head gasket why there is no water on oil and no oil residue in my radiator ihope you could give me some insight before i will remove the head tnx
Hey I have an issue with starting up warm engine. If I want to start up when is engine warm in that case engine dont run smooth. Its like a gaps in sound of engine and car dont want to drive when I step on a gas. You can smell something in cabin in that moment. My friend tried a diagnostic app on a phone and there is mistake P0171 . Spark plugs, ignition coils and both o2 sensors replaced. I dont see it now on a dasboard .
I have an 06, purchased new and I'm glad to say I don't have any of these issues. 134, 500 miles, garage kept, still looks new. I did change the timing belt & water pump (not leaking) . There's no maybe, if the timing belt breaks in these engines the valves will hit the pistons and destroy the engine SO CHANGE THE TIMING BELT AT LEAST EVERY 100,000 MILES & water pump since you have it torn down that far. About $200 for belt & water pump DIY or expect to pay 1,200 to 1,600 for a mechanic or dealership to do it. Does not use or burn any oil between 4000 mile oil change & filter, (Mobil 1 oil & filter). Only other thing I've done is regular things like tires, battery, brakes, coolant & transmission mission flush every 30,000, air filter & cabin air filter. Still ice cold A/C. The tire air pressure sensors still works, (haven't replaced any batteries or sensors yet). These SUV's are well worth the money.
I have a 2003 honda pilot an my power locks stopped working one day i press the lock button i can hear the trunk lock an unlock but not the doors how do i fix this ?
It sounds like you will need to replace the actuators. I would recommend googling how to fix 2003 Honda Pilot door locks. I am sure there will be some good information!
#1 issue: going off-roading with a Honda Pilot!?!?
Sway bar end links replace ?
Yeah found the rear frame issue and hopefully I can get local shop to repair it. Seems to be the only location for rust issues so far (rear driver side crossmember/sub assembly front mount is hanging down) then I'll proceed to to provide proper drainage and hopefully avoid further problems. Like the vehicle and want to get a lot more miles out of it, currently at 227K in Wisconsin. And by comparison among other brands I think I'm doing pretty good with this truck. Frame rot is a fairly common issue (keep an eye out when buying a used car!) Tacomas and older model Highlanders also suffered from this issue
Good list, thanks dude! The frame rot is really disturbing. I test drove a Pilot and something was really off with the way it handled on the road. Upon closer inspection the entire undercarriage frame was rusted out. Now this is the first thing I check! Cheers
Great video! 06 Sky Blue Pilot here, I’d also add Rust bubbles forming in the gap area in the rear fenders on the side of the body
Absolutely love your channel. Just bought a 2007 pilot with 197k on the clock gonna do a timing belt on it as soon as I get my tax refund. Absolutely love this little car.
We do too!
How about the power steering whine? Replace the o-rings on the power steering pump lines where they connect at the pump. Keep up the good work. 07 EX-L here.

As is mine.

Purchased my 05 Whit EX-L with 119K now has 223K
Here's my maintenance List : mostly common maintenance.
-Valve Adjustment
-Timing Belt, Water Pump, Spark Plugs
-Alternator
-Starter Motor
-Rear Shocks and struts
-Alignment
-Power Steering motor
-Top compression Hose and bottom rack and pinion passenger side.
-Oil and filters
-Brake Pads Front 70K
-Rear pads... about time for new ones.. haven't changed in over 100K ! Still good.
Surprising areas I have not had to take care of:
-CV Joints ?? Still Good
-Honda Symbol on Steering wheel? Perfect
-Leather interior? Still amazing No cracks or tears.
-Creeks or noises? Still quiet as she purrs down the road. :)
-Disc Rotors? They may need to be turned now.. will check on the next maintenance
Just to name a few. Despite some issues with these vehicles.. they are capable, comfortable, quiet, and great daily commuters with surprising offroad capacity.

I used black paint and it makes me happy.
Ty very much. You hit all my issues. So far so good.
We have 2 pilots in the family an 07 and an 08 never had any of these issues, guess we are very lucky! Love your videos!
Wow it is always great to hear that some escape these issues! Thanks :)
2003 never done me wrong
Any issues yet with 07? I bought one and I don’t like the way my suspension sounds.
@@elperrocovero we never had suspension issues. The 07 has been on trails where pilots dont go and lots of dirt roads, no issues at all.
Great feedback thanks!
2004 EX-L. My driver's door lock cylinder gave up. I managed to get the alarm sounding with no way to shut it off but disconnecting the battery. Got new lock cylinder today, installed and somehow shut off alarm. I do love this vehicle!
Good to hear you were able to fix it! Great job!
Have 06 Pilot. Been having issue with engine Intermittently shutting off. Someone had recommended me to replace the Catalytic converter. You make things very clear. I may not need to get a new car after all. Thanks Aaron
If the engine is running then shutting off it might be the fuel pump

My pilot also suffered from the body rot on that part near the subframe! Fixed it similar to yours. My interior door handle chrome peeled off and got some eBay ones. Love your videos, keep it up!
Thanks and that is another common problem! Now that I think about it mine has a bubble in the chrome on the inside, so it is only a matter of time :)
We have the same issue with the interior door handles - all 4
@@timswift3722 yep that’s happened to me before also
How did you fix yours? Was it the bushings rotted out?
Sweet man! Thank you. This will be very useful in the coming month. haha
My 06 pilot has tpms issues. Very common for older hondas too. I gotta get new tires soon so i hope to have a shop install new sensors with them. I also love your build and i hope to one day jack my pilot up a few inches and get dirty with it!
You should be able to get those sensors replaced for sure. One day I am going to do a Honda meetup!
I replaced my rear bumper beam to 😂. It wasn’t dropping chips though lol
yup all the ones i see at the dealer auctions have rusty bumper beams, i live in PA.
The metal where the spring mounts to the rear subframe is rusting out. Already did the subframe mount repair.
Have you replaced the timing belt on the 05 you have?
@@pennyprince No it was done by the previous owner at 177k. I'm only at 213k now. Still got a long way to go. If you're worried about yours, go ahead and do it. The timing belt job is WAY cheaper than a new engine or rebuilt heads.
My 07 pilot engin and vtm4 come on when it's going rain like 2 days before
hi! I have a pilot since 2007 in Russia, he himself is 2003 and there are no such problems as you have on the video at all))) I do not know how you mock him there, but I take care of him) my mileage is 180,000 miles, the car is fire and the best) good luck
My 07 pilot exl ac doesnt always turn on or heat sometime after a bump will trigger it
Great list of PITA stuff with the Pilots.
I think aftermarket trans cooler is appropriate for any vehicle with an automatic transmission cause only good things will happen.
Those tyres look so good!!!
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Thank you for the very informative video. I am currently looking for an honda pilot 2004 to 2006 & the information is very useful.
My 2004 Pilot drivers side seat belt would get wet in a heavy rain ???? I removed the rail cover on the roof rack and saw a very fine crack in the weld for the bolt support. I gave it a good cleaning and caulked it with silicone. So far so good!
How about the front water leak that enters through the seams because of poor seam sealer.
I have an 03 honda pilot just recently the tire lock light has been coming on when it's not supposed to
It could be a tpms sensor running out of batteries
2014 Pilot surging problem did all kind of repair please help
Sorry forgot there was a 5th issue. The HVAC blend motor issue. Mine sounds like an old perculating coffee maker. Annoying, but not like "Annoying Orange" annoying. So far only "paper cut" issues with mine. But will definitely check on the frame rot issue. I bought mine used last year before I found your site so didn't know to check. As I said below you've got a subscriber now !
Our 08 does have a saggy rear end, installed kyb rear shock absorbers and it fixed the issue for now.
Just bought a 2008 pilot with 108k miles. I pray its a good vehicle.
Our 04 Pilot has 60k miles still Runs fine and shifts like a dream, all we really need to change are the oils and brakes and it still runs fine!
Awesome! Enjoy it!
I have a 2003 Honda Pilot the passenger rear window I can hear the motor running but I die the wind of window not going up or down not sure what happened or what's going on can you please help me with this😅
window motors and lock actuators they go bad back to back to back and some of that also transferred to the MDX

That is good to know!
Stan.

how about oil leaks between transmission and the engine this rear main seal
I didn't have one then, but I do now. I am just using a bottle of rear main sealant per oil change for now.
Hi my 2007 pilot overheated now engine wont run when cranking i can hear coolant reservior bubbling if its head gasket why there is no water on oil and no oil residue in my radiator ihope you could give me some insight before i will remove the head tnx
The head may have failed in a way that only lets combustion gasses into the reservoir.

P0171
Possible Causes
Intake air leaks
Faulty front heated oxygen sensor
Ignition misfiring
Faulty fuel injectors
Exhaust gas leaks
Incorrect fuel pressure

У меня 06 год, можете дать пожалуйста ссылку на видео как заменить деталь для смешивания воздуха.

It sounds like you will need to replace the actuators. I would recommend googling how to fix 2003 Honda Pilot door locks. I am sure there will be some good information!
