I got one of these beauties about two years ago or so now at my Guitar Center. I have various decent modeling amps now, including my premier amp, a newer Vox VX50 50 watt amp. Well, I never bothered that much playing at home by myself, for fun, over the years, with tons of pedals or FX. But, since my playing has vastly improved the past several years at least, I realized I needed better amps and FX. Amps I've got, modeling I've got, even have a Blues Driver and 90s Tubescreamer, which is great. But one finds that the FX even on something like the Vox VX50 (or even their Valvetronix amps) are a bit limited. They're ok. That's where the Zoom G1X4 comes in. It's taken me some study to finally come to grips with programming it, doing my own pedal racks, patches, etc., but now I'm off and running. I've been able the past few months, to dial in A. a spot-on Flock of Seagulls sound (absolutely spot-on with the Digital Delay), B. a Love and Rockets "No Big Deal" fuzztone buzzsaw overdrive sound and C. a decent enough Gilmour Pink Floyd lead sound. For me, just being a home player, that means the box has already paid for itself! And it sounds pretty darned good. It sounds best through the Vox amp, but, I also recently did a Flock demo. for my family on the Roland Micro Cube amp, and it still sounded great. It runs on batteries for F's sake! It's also very portable. I sat here today and played Gilmour's "Until We Sleep" via the Vox amp, and F. me if it didn't sound just like the album track! It's very exciting to be finally be able to get that kind of tone. You can even bang out something like Floyd's "On the Turning Away" switching between an "acoustic" setting or patch, and your "Floyd" Gilmour one, whatever that might be. It also helped that I recently picked up a lefty "metal" Ibanez type guitar for more high gain stuff, with a whammy bar. Otherwise I use a Telecaster, and/or a 12-string ac. electric. Once you master editing, saving, and how to do a a pedal chain, this thing is phenomenal. The only thing better would maybe be the higher level pro. type BOSS or Zoom processors. But they're around $400-1000 or so. Even Billy Corgan said recently on here that he doesn't lug around 1000 pedals anymore for live, he just uses some high end processors for the most part, either Line 6 Helix or whatever that is. If that's true, and I guess it is, that shows you how good some of the tech. has come in recent years. I don't think Billy would rely on the G1X4, but for having fun at home or recording at home, or jamming, this is the dog's bollocks! Even just for headphone practice or study, this is the shit.

What do you recommend me to buy first because I have an electric guitar but I dont have an amp and a multi fx. What should I buy first an amp or a zoom g1 Four?
Yuan Santillana it depends...you can use this with headphones or if you have a good Soundsystem at home...and it will sound pretty good BUT if you want to play together with other people an amp would be the better alternative
I think it had just a standard headphone jack plug...but if not then all you need is a little converter to turn it into a 1/4inch plug. The most important thing when using headphones is to make sure that the amp simulation is turned ON...it will sound pretty bad with it turned off
I would just go into the front of the amp...but depends on how you use it. If you have a distorted amp and you only want to use it for delays, reverbs and some modulation you could put in into the effects loop...if you want to use the amp sims as ‘preamps’ you could run it into the effects return of your amp...
Hi. Thanks for your video. One question - only the 10 free empty slots are for creating and saving my own presets, or can I also delete the factory preset to replace them with more of my own?
@@wojciechstecyszyn6040 Do you mean like running 2 overdrives or 2 delays at once- or do you just mean stacking more than one effect? Because I know you can stack, I think it's 6 effects, but I don't know if you can run multiples of the same effect at once. I don't think you can tbh- but you can run a boost into a drive if you need more juice.
@@stoneysdead689 I ment two instances of expression pedal (like wah + vol pedal). But I bought this zoom already and I know that the answer is no :) Despite this I love this toy! Thanks for replying anyway.
I'd like to have my effects chains controlled with the expression pedal as a volume control but most chains don't contain the volume control. Can you tell me how to change the effect in position #5 in any of the chains to a Volume control...or is that even possible? Thanks.
That's disappointing- I assumed it was the vol. control if the effect wasn't a wah or something like that. That's the way my friend's Helix works so I just assumed it was standard. So, if it's not volume when you have a drive selected- what does it do?
My question would (As I haven't seen to all tutorials) can you use both pedals, like pedal 1 - grunge muff and pedal 2 - clone chorus? Does The G1 four have that capability?

Try downloading Zoom Guitar Lab. You may be missing some devices. I think the Zoom Guitar Lab can restore default settings. I may be wrong, but...hope that helps
This is me for about 6 straight hours after I bought the G1X Four. GREAT little pedal. I'm wondering though ; Is it possible to save an actual Loop recording in one of the patches ? That would be handy.
Hi! I was wondering about the amp sims on this unit. You have the cabinets off obviously when running into an amp, but in the video you seemed to keep the actual amp sims on while plugged into the all. Can you tell me how all of that works?
The amp sims are kinda like Distortion or Overdrive pedals...they will give you the “flavour” of an amp...you can use them as that or turn them off and use an actual Overdrive or Distortion module! There is really no right or wrong...just whatever sounds best to you! Hope that made sense?!?
the cab is not really on by default (inside the cab settings there's a setting called "mic" and this is switched off as shown at about 4:30 . I'd recommend switching the "mic" on and then turning the cab block off if you're going into an amp (then flip it back on if you're going to headphones or an interface) If your amp has an FX loop you can also go straight into the FX return and keep the amp block on (but keep the cab sim off)
Hey! I’m currently looking at this pedal, I mainly listen to indie/alternative, do you think this pedal can handle these two genres of music? And can you pick just 1 or 2 effects instead of all 5? like just reverb and delay for example, and turning everything else off. Sorry for my bad English, it’s not my native language, thanks!!
It’s not an audio interface so you can’t plug it in via USB...but you do have amp and cabinet simulation in it do you can plug it into any speaker with an input or headphones and use it that way
I've only just got into this 'looping' stuff. Yeah, so I'm a 'Newbie'...lol Just purchased a Boss RC3 and not really impressed by it. Having watched DJ Funk, I noticed that what you actually play is louder than the actual sample when playing back. Correct me if i'm incorrect when mentioning this observation? After having watched a considerable Zoom vidz, I noticed it does not have this 'limited' implication. (Feedback Willkommen) ;)
Yes- in fact some of the presets do not have a cab sim on them- and the ones that do, you can turn it off. Some presets have all the slots filled though and no cab sim so- to use them DI you would have to get rid of something and add a cab sim in its place.
I own this and it always feels “plastic” and the demos I’ve seen, this guy blows the OPs out of the water and makes others sound obsolete. I think it was Taylor Danleys demo. Something feels missing IRL 0laying with it. A plastic tool. But I’m using headphones???? That’s not a Rectifier channel 2 orange)with Dynamic Drive (ocd)and Ts. Not even close even with My IRs. Thank You for this demo I have learned a lot. So now I’m looking at Mvave Blackbox or another Mooer revamp by Harley Benton DNA “core”. The form factor guitarists need but I’m still skeptical. Hotone Ampero mini think Might saves the day too (lol). I’ve even went backwards to see if it compares to old units. Is this VAMS software fix? Tech like Korgs REMS? Or Boss Cosm? Pandora anyone? It is better than those units so TSAC or CDMC blah rant! Reel tube technology You can fish out. Happy Shopping and I thought the original G1on beats this with brighter display and stronger ABS lol. Okay I’m done! Excellent demo I forgot My adderall
Please please please for the love of all that's holy. If you're considering a software solution like amplitude, waves, or another of those, save a fortune and buy one of these instead. The amp/cabs are infinitely better than any software and the effects are wildly better. The waves full package is over $200 and doesn't come within a million miles of this beast.
I know it's been a while since you uploaded this, but i was wondering how to just delete the last overdub without losing everything on the looper. doesn't seem to be anything obvious in the instructions.
Can you help me a lot of my presets aren’t working when I listen to them using my headphones is that because you need to use a amp to get all the presets to work

Yuan Santillana it depends...you can use this with headphones or if you have a good Soundsystem at home...and it will sound pretty good BUT if you want to play together with other people an amp would be the better alternative
@@TSFAHTPS does it need an adoptor when you're putting headphones?
I think it had just a standard headphone jack plug...but if not then all you need is a little converter to turn it into a 1/4inch plug. The most important thing when using headphones is to make sure that the amp simulation is turned ON...it will sound pretty bad with it turned off
@@TSFAHTPS sorry for many questions but does the battery last long when playing
@@simpatiko6392 It says 18h with the battery but you can plug in a micro-usb cable to use it at home :)
Wished that the distortion would shut up occasionally.
🤷🏻♂️
Which is better? input amp front or send return loop?
I would just go into the front of the amp...but depends on how you use it. If you have a distorted amp and you only want to use it for delays, reverbs and some modulation you could put in into the effects loop...if you want to use the amp sims as ‘preamps’ you could run it into the effects return of your amp...
Thanks for this. Please let me know which amp you are using for this Demo? Can i connect this to a direct mixing board to a PA speaker?
Please help
Hi. Thanks for your video. One question - only the 10 free empty slots are for creating and saving my own presets, or can I also delete the factory preset to replace them with more of my own?
I’m pretty sure you can save over all the factory presets!!
@@TSFAHTPS Cool. Thanks
One more if you dont mind: can you have two pedals in one chain?
@@wojciechstecyszyn6040 Do you mean like running 2 overdrives or 2 delays at once- or do you just mean stacking more than one effect? Because I know you can stack, I think it's 6 effects, but I don't know if you can run multiples of the same effect at once. I don't think you can tbh- but you can run a boost into a drive if you need more juice.
@@stoneysdead689 I ment two instances of expression pedal (like wah + vol pedal). But I bought this zoom already and I know that the answer is no :) Despite this I love this toy! Thanks for replying anyway.
I have just bought one to use live instead of my nova system that has died. I only use delay, chorus and phaser so this is a bargain at £65
is it true-bypass? thanks
I recently bought this pedal, do I need to do any software update, has anything new been added that I need to upgrade?
If you have sw version 2.0 you are up to date
Que diferencia con el a1 four?
It can play multiple effects at once - but some use a lot of DSP like amps. But two pedals? Easily.
sorry for bad english, I really2 need your help, i buy second g1 four. the problems example in bank number 01 , 10 MS Higain sound is very very different from your review. when i open stomp mode i realized that the setting has been changed . MS Higain in your device the chain is " gold drive-ms800-ms4x12-ZNR-PLATE" in my device "MISSING EFFECT-ms800-ms4x12-ZNR-PLATE", missing effect (gold drive) cannot found in my device . i have been try to reset factory and still nothing happen.
Is it possible to get a decent SRV type tone? The 1 area these type units seem to struggle
@@coppulor6500 Are you kidding me? Use the Fender ToneMaster amp model along with a Tubescreamer pedal in front and SRV to your hearts delight!
@@socialdef3 cool. Thanks!
@@TSFAHTPS That made perfect sense! My G1 Four arrived today and it sounds great in an amp AND a pa! thanks for the awesome review.
If running this through a amp with 2x12 cab is it better to turn off
The cab In the preset?
Thanks
Chris yes...if you are running into an amp you should turn the amp and cab sims in the zoom off...unless you really like the sound
The SuperFunAwesomeHappyTime Pedal Show!
Awesome thanks guys
the cab is not really on by default (inside the cab settings there's a setting called "mic" and this is switched off as shown at about 4:30 . I'd recommend switching the "mic" on and then turning the cab block off if you're going into an amp (then flip it back on if you're going to headphones or an interface)
If your amp has an FX loop you can also go straight into the FX return and keep the amp block on (but keep the cab sim off)
Should I be using a cab sim on my effects if I'm going into an amp or is it only for DI?
I would turn it off if you are playing through a guitar amp...unless you like the sound then just leave it on!!
The loop from 17.50 was going groovy..
I think it would handle indie/alternative and yes you don’t have to use all 5 effects slots...you can only have one effect on if you like
@@TSFAHTPS thanks, this will really affect my choice! And you guys are legends for replying to everyone that needs help even after such a long time!
can you run this direct into a computer and use the computer speakers as the amp
It’s not an audio interface so you can’t plug it in via USB...but you do have amp and cabinet simulation in it do you can plug it into any speaker with an input or headphones and use it that way
@@TSFAHTPS thanks for that much appreciated
I've only just got into this 'looping' stuff.
Yeah, so I'm a 'Newbie'...lol
Just purchased a Boss RC3 and not really impressed by it.
Having watched DJ Funk, I noticed that what you actually play is louder than the actual sample when playing back.
Correct me if i'm incorrect when mentioning this observation?
After having watched a considerable Zoom vidz, I noticed it does not have this 'limited' implication.
(Feedback Willkommen) ;)
any good patches site you can recommend?
Nice gear, thought the looper could have been largeur, two minutes at least.
❤
Is it possible to use this pedal with any amp or maybe even a speaker?
Yes- in fact some of the presets do not have a cab sim on them- and the ones that do, you can turn it off. Some presets have all the slots filled though and no cab sim so- to use them DI you would have to get rid of something and add a cab sim in its place.
Can I use a mobile charger to use this device?
No...I don’t think so...mobile chargers are usually 5V and this needs 9V
@@TSFAHTPS thanks for the answer..
That’s very creative guys!
Marijuana and this pedal will be a trip
Puppy!!! 😍😍😍
Hi what is the model Epiphone ?
It’s a 90s Sheraton
since it supports 5v power option, can we use use powerbanks to power ?
Yes
@@adamstein9333 thank you very much…glad you liked the demo!!
Can it be connect directly to the computer for recording?
Please please please for the love of all that's holy. If you're considering a software solution like amplitude, waves, or another of those, save a fortune and buy one of these instead. The amp/cabs are infinitely better than any software and the effects are wildly better. The waves full package is over $200 and doesn't come within a million miles of this beast.
I know it's been a while since you uploaded this, but i was wondering how to just delete the last overdub without losing everything on the looper. doesn't seem to be anything obvious in the instructions.
Can't :(
Maybe hold the stompbox button? That's how it works with other loopers
WD-40?
No true bypass btw
waw and its just 65 euros and you can do lots of different things ... nice
Absolutely
Which amp would compliment this device? Looking for a 10w amp. Thanks!
Vox AC 10 if you want tubes
Vox Pathfinder 10 if you want solid state
@@johnnycouture2012 I use a Peavey Backstage II, 10 watts, plug into the Tape/CD input which doubles as the fx loop.

Too long

Well…it is very cheap…but I think for the price and what you get with it…and as something for a beginner or as a practice tool it’s great!!

How did you type that with your nose pointed at the ceiling?
We can't all afford racks of overly high priced gear. This pedal is awesome for what it's intended.

Yes there is.
